Happy Arthur's Day – perhaps the greatest Irish marketing campaign of all time by the multinational owners of Guinness. Thousands of online campaigners have even signed a petition to turn September 24 into a national holiday, a Paddy's Day II. Cynicism aside, Guinness have lined up an impressive range of acts for intimate gigs around the capital's pubs and clubs, and Tripod is no exception. Like the rest, the Harcourt Street venue has been turned into a TV set for the evening, so Dublin can link up with simultaneous gigs in Lagos, Kuala Lumpar and New York for the toast [...]
Next Thursday, September 24th, will see a worldwide celebration of Arthur's Day – a musical event to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the lease at St James's Gate Brewery. Although there are gigs happening across the globe (including New York, Lagos,Yaoundé and Asia), it's fitting that Dublin should be hosting the biggest party of all. Kicking off at 17:59 local time, the capital in four venues – Tripod ( Calvin Harris, Soul II Soul ), Whelans ( David Gray, The Enemy, Lisa Hannigan ), Vicar Street ( Sugababes, Razorlight , Reverend & the Makers ) [...]
John McEnroe & Bjorn Borg shake it upOrchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark Genetic EngineeringNew Musik On IslandsI remember being really struck by OMD's Dazzle Ships album when I listened to it a couple of years ago - the typically English fascination with World War II and skewed glances at industrial progressivism (that continues to this day, think of British Sea Power) in a concept album were more

This is the first time I've actually sat down and gone through all of the stuff that's been sent to us over the past few months. There has been an absolute ton of stuff - I think I downloaded around 80+ tunes! So without further ado - here's part one of The Grand Catch Up. Now, some of these are pretty average but it's worth flicking through them as there are some gooduns knocking around in there. Codebreaker - Follow Me (The Outrunners remix) [...]
Our favorite Spaniards, Buffet Libre , contacted us back in January, selecting us to take part in an upcoming project for their Continental Breakfast series where a curated selection of bloggers each submit their pick for The Best Dancefloor Killer Track in the World . The project went live today in the form of a "Selected Mixtape" . You can check out my contribution to the list amongst the fantastic submissions of 38 other music bloggers, including quite a few of our friends! I'll go ahead and [...]

I've been hearing Nadastrom's "Pussy" on dance floors everywhere since the beginning of the year and I love it. It samples one of the best modern R&B songs ever; Soul II Soul's "Back to Life." Not only has Soul II Soul's song been getting crazy spins in my place between me and my roomie but we've been watching Belly non-stop as well. Hype William's understated masterpiece is one of the best shot movies of the 90's and he uses Soul II Soul's song perfectly in the intro. Its all acappella until DMX [...]

Download it here [direct mp3 link, right click and save as]. Listen to it at Test Pressing . This is f-cking EPIC! For young 'uns benefit, the original Wild Bunch splintered and became Soul II Soul ( Nellee Hooper joining Jazzie B 's London crew) and Massive Attack ( Daddy G and 3D ). Test Pressing has more crucial UK sounds. Check them out here . [h/t: Anousheh]

If you have been to a SQDJUQ set in the last month or so, you've heard this mix at some point in the night. There are no surprises here. Just the tried and true. It's a sure fire crowd favorite and helps when I need a couple minutes to take a smoke... Supa Qool DJ Uncle Q - Short and Sweet Tracklist after jump 1. All Night Long - Mary Jane Girls 2. Last month brought the release of Nadastrom's (Dave Nada & Matt Nordstrom) first EP, entitled Pussy and released on the Dubsided Lable. So far from what i can tell it's a Vinyl only release which has made it pretty impossible to find decent quality tracks from it, which is even more annoying seeing as it sounds like just about every track on it it's equally different but equally huge. So what i have for you is a 128kbps rip from their myspace of the title track, Pussy, which has vocal samples from Soul II Soul's 1980's hit Back to Life [...]

I've been reading up on the latest happenings of Jazzie B. and Soul II Soul . It's good to see that Jazzie is still going strong as a DJ around London. I really enjoyed the club / R&B groove of their first two U.S. releases, Keep on Movin' and Vol. II: 1990 - A New Decade . Here's the biggest hit from Vol. II... Soul II Soul - Get a Life (mp3) Listen here: [...]
