It's time to work my way through some of the many new CD's recently found in the mailbox. This is the complete list of today's "menu"…comments to be added during the day. Midnight Movies – Nights EP + Should Have Known Soundpool – dichotomies + dreamland + Do What You Love Elika [...]

Empfehlenswert! Soundpool - Pleasure [...]

Today's subject: names paint companies come up with for all their different hues of colour. Like "Misty Teal," "Rainforest Foliage" or "Cayman Lagoon" for different shades of green, or "Sunporch," "Baby Chick" or "American Cheese" to help differentiate between various yellow tints. They apparently put a lot of thought into them to evoke certain impressions and feelings, but overall fail to use them as a marketing tool. If I had a paint company, I'd want to go for the edgy, hip, young crowd, and use much more fetching names for my colours. For instance, "Menstruating" [...]

Hin tilraunakennda menntapoppsveit Xiu Xiu gaf nýverið út plötuna Women As Lovers . Ég get nú ekki sagt að ég hafi haft mikla þolinmæði í hlusta á þessa sveit í gegnum tíðina en nú hveður við annan tón. Platan þessi er öll mikið aðgengilegri heldur en fyrri verk sveitarinnar þó vissulega sé nóg um flippið og furðulegheitin sem einkenna tónlist hennar. Ég mæli með þessari. Shoegaze will always remain one of my favorite genres of music, even if I get away from it from time to time, it's something that I always come back to. Granted, shoegaze and dreampop saw their heyday in the early nineties, but today many acts continue to reinvent and push the envelope with the genre. I was reading an interview with Soundpool (one of the bands featured in this post) about the relation among shoegaze, electronica, and indie-pop becoming more familiar in Japan. One of the group's members stated that there has been "a significant change in [...]
Soundpool Genre: Shoegaze / Electronica / Psychedelic From: New York, United States I received a copy of the debut album by New York band Soundpool during the week that had me rooting through my record collection dusting off my well worn, tattered vinyl copies of discs by Ride , My Bloody Valentine , The Pale [...]

We are both glad there is no snow today (at least not right now). Later in on, we are going to head over to The 32nd Cleveland International Film Festival . Until then, hope you enjoy these songs! 5. {mp3} Soundpool - The Divides of March This quartet from NYC makes lush, ethereal, shoegaze driven electonica dream pop. Reminds us of Asobi Seksu, Broadcast, et al. 4. {mp3} [...]

Soundpool 's second album is an unlikely mosaic of early 90's brit indie guitar rock, psychedelic electric distortion, vintage synth, and gentle vocal harmonies. There are echoes of Love & Rockets, Gary Numan, and The Beatles at their karmic height. The result is colorful & hypnotic, sweeping & epic. Definitely worth a dive in the deep end. If you could see me now, you'd see a big smile on my face, because what a demanding week it's been. My youngest daughter has been hit by Chicken pox (not my fault), I've not been able to get any sleep (the young one's fault), I'm damn busy at work (partly my fault) and my body is still soar from go carting Monday evening (driving directly into that wall was entirely my fault). So a quiet weekend is certainly something I'm looking forward to! The above has in various ways influenced the number of posts this week, so [...]

Formed in 2005, Soundpool is a New York City-based five-piece audio/visual recording band with sweet girlie vocals, saturated guitar sounds, lush synth arrangements and a danceable driving rhythm section who prefer to play out with the backdrop of self produced psychedelic visuals whenever they can. With their mind-expanding and ultra compelling psychedelic live shows, Soundpool has shared the stage with such great artists as Ulrich Schnauss, A Place To Bury Strangers and Asobi Seksu. Live, Soundpool's rhythm section of James Renard and Dean McCormick lays down a danceable foundation for John Ceparano's saturated overdriven guitar and Mark Robinson's ethereal keyboard [...]
Today's free and legal mp3 downloads: Chromewaves pointed out a rash of SXSW resources yesterday, and shares a couple of Emmy the Great tracks (she's one of the few artists on my "must-see" list for this year's music conference). Emmy the Great : "Easter Parade" [mp3] Borko : "Dingdong Kingdom" from Celebrating Life [...]
Just checked the old inbox and came across a band I had seen open for Asobi Seksu that I figured I had to pass along. As you can guess by their stage-mates, Soundpool are in the shoegazer genre, and do it quite well! If you haven't witnessed them live, then I would highly recommend checking them out in their current tour (dates below). Although the band, hailing from NYC, is typically compared

I get sent a lot of different kinds of music, having run this blog for over a year now and sometimes the things I get are okay, not my cup of tea, or right up my alley. I had an interesting experience yesterday when I opened up my mail and found the NYC five-piece Soundpool's album Dichotomies and Dreamland. As usual I opened up the package and started reading the write up on the band. Key words popped out at me, "Shoegaze", "Girlie Vocals", "Saturated Guitar", "Lush Synth Arrangements", "Driving Dancable Rhythm", never before has something been sent [...]

New York, NY How amazing is Soundpool for the name of a band? For these shoegazers it’s a title that's as complimentary as they come. On High is an emotional wall of sound that shows a true sense of sophistication. I love this record, and it'll surely please any fans of bands like Lush or Slowdive . "Eurostar" Soundpool on MySpace

Here is something new to my ears from NYC’s Soundpool , who have just recently put out their debut album On High through Aloft Records. Without having any knowledge as to what this would sound like beforehand, I was pretty delighted and surprised to hear that my speakers were churning out some sort of odd extensions to what I am guessing is shoegaze. Soundpool have crafted them selves a unique sound here. You can’t immediately pigeonhole this as straightforward shoegaze, because [...]
