Music has to push ever shifting buttons for me, it has to be supple enough to meet changing moods, desires, & situations; yet still retain a quality beyond just pleasing, a wow factor... or like the title says. I'm fussy, for sure, and naturally the merits of anything artistic are in the eyes, ears & mind of the beholder; but sometimes there seems nothing worse than mediocre music. I'm pleased to report getting an 'ooh' today, upon listening to the new ep by Swedish band South Ambulance ; the grabber was 'Davy Crockett' which [...]

"Davy Crockett" - South Ambulance Friendly, skewed, comfortably messy, unexpectedly melodic, and totally what I want to hear this week. Could be the way the introduction takes Radiohead's "No Surprises" and recasts it as a goofy, upbeat adventure, could be the homespun nature of the big-hearted beat and wall-of-sound vibe, or maybe it could even be the snug nostalgia of the title ("Davy Crockett" evokes a bygone childhood as well as any proper name I can think of), but this song surely makes me smile. I love music that makes me smile out [...]

Fully refreshed from a weekend getaway, I thought I'd kick off the week with some new sounds from the folks at Indiecater Records , who send along the latest from the Swedish band South Ambulance . "Davey Crockett" appears on the band's latest effort, EP #4 , the first of three EPs South Ambulance is set to release via Indiecater in 2009. EP#4 also marks the release of the band's first new material since their 2005 full-length debut on Labrador Records (later re-issued on Austin's Rollerderby Records). [...]

The Stockholm band South Ambulance was formed in late 2003 by Pietu Kaipainen, Daniel Filipsson, Robin Spurrier & Daniel Gamba, with the ambition to write good music on Saturdays and record it on Sundays. In November the same year, four songs were caught on tape and the band was offered to do their first live set at a club in Stockholm. The audience was happy, Swedish radio started to play the music and magazines wrote nice words so the band decided to put out their ep#1 on cd-r. "Die 5times times5", their first recording, was spread on the [...]
Indiecater time again and this time the precious audio comes from Northern Europe, Sweden to be precise. Are you excited yet? You should know by now about the Swedes and their unerring gift for exceedingly good music and so we wanted in on the action. And what better way to achieve that goal than by teaming up with Stockholm's finest South Ambulance. The quintet are a godsend for anyone still

I've gotten a lot of great submissions that I was planning to review and post by now, but with my moving back to Brooklyn from Florida next week... I just don't have the time. I've been spending time packing and reorganizing my belongings, along with working and spending as much time as possible with friends and family. But I wanted to get something up here to hold y'all over until everything is settled, so here's a couple of playlists in the meantime: This first playlist I'm posting was partially influenced [...]

I've loved this Swedish band (and its sometimes offshoot Gamba) since their debut left the environs of Labrador's magnificent halls back in 2005. Their website might be headache inducing but their back catalogue is a faultless seam of gilded gems. There are shoegaze influences aplenty but its overriding nature puts lolloping melodies to the fore. 'Die 5times times5' should already be on your

It has been almost 2 years now since I started this blogging lark and although I was a ferocious hoarder of all things indie beforehand actually writing about the stuff has spurred me onto a different level of inspection. It's funny how despite the thousands of mp3's that have passed my aural gaze how one or two just refuse to budge from my consciousness. One of these is this song from a Swedish

If you like indie pop music from Scandinavia with rousing choruses, tons of energy, and handclaps galore (and if you don't, why are you reading this blog anyways), you'll want to check out South Ambulance . Another band featured on the fantastic collection: Labrador 100: A Complete History of Popular Music , they fit in very well with the likes of Acid House Kings, Laurel Music, Pelle Carlberg, The Radio Department, etc. It's non-stop entrancing melodies with a hint of shoegaze. Die 5 times times 5 Saturdays for [...]
I'm writing this and praying that this is not a prophetic moment for later on at Croke Park. Until then we'll saviour the atmosphere and lift the roof in the home of the GAA. You know the way I'm always banging on about how Sweden continually pulls great bands out of the bag. Well, this band are probably my favourite Scandanavian's of the whole lot. South Ambulance are purveyors of the purest

In case Wonderdrug were not, for you at least, what the doctor ordered, this next group is standing by. You can tell from their picture they are fully prepared to help. My posting them at this time is not accidental, for I just read the following at the MySpace site of Austin's Rollerderby Records (I'm retaining the charmingly casual decapitalization and unpunctuation): We welcome Swedish group South Ambulance to the label. we can hardly wait [...]
When I woke up this morning, I didn't think that it's going to be Just Another Bad Day (Ripchord) at work. But on my way to work, police held me up for a routine check of my motorbike. I was expecting Bad News (Owen), but everything was fine and I could continue my way. As I Walk Into The Fight (Anamia), better known as the office, phones started ringing, people kept moaning, machines started
