Sometimes this is exhausting. Every morning, up before the sun. That star slumbers late into the ante meridiem and yet I'm awake with my music. Every morning. ** Lately there was a feeling that the words were just too hard. In the fall, life here in the country changes and everything seems to take longer. The birds move slower before they nearly disappear and the bees disperse. Parts of my heart, those not absolutely essential to the necessary action of pumping blood through my [...]

Touring on the heels of the recent release of the debut release under the moniker The Great American Desert - Mr Max Holmquist(Lincoln/Omaha, NE) stopped by Stone House Recording to play a few tracks from Carson City ( Yer Bird Records ). ' Carson City is fully stripped down experience, recorded in a living room by Ian Aeillo and mastered by Matt Hova. All you hear is guitar and hushed vocals weaving tales of gambling [...]

With the warmer weather here – there will be plenty of quality time spent tipping a few on front porches back decks and roof tops. Nothing like a fitting soundtrack to compliment those moments. Hopefully – we can provide you with something new to throw in the ol’ iPod. From Yer Bird Records : 'South of Lincoln the former stage name for indie-folk artist Max Holmquist, is no more. Over the last year Max has experienced a rebirth, breaking away from his former stage name South of Lincoln and the post-punk/emo music that has started [...]

Damien Jurado's "Working Titles" was my song obsession this time Song obsessions are those songs that get stuck in your head. This series of posts isn't about what I or the other panel members think is best, but what our brain latches onto, those ear worms that loop around and around in your head. - Adrian ( me ): Damien Jurado - Working Titles (mp3) ( pre-order ) I'd heard a couple tracks from the forthcoming [...]

Yeah, that title is pushing the Twitter character limit. Not only is that beautiful blogroll way max off the chain, [...]

South of Lincoln was 'discovered' via an innocent recommendation in the forums at AltCountryTab.ca and it wasn't even directed at me. Yet, it ended up being meant for me...I know it. South of Lincoln (or Maxwell Holmquist) is, you guessed it, a singer-songwriter who plays slow and acoustic music for the most part. Yet, he does it so incredibly well by creating moods and moments that you truly fall inside of. Small slices of life via acoustic vignette. Some of these moments are of places you don't wish on anyone, but in turn many of these cathartic stories set to [...]

Today's song & video of the day came out of nowhere, but from a familiar place - always nice when that happens. Creeping on music forums is one of the best ways to find music - you tend to get a lot of suggestions and the people tend to know what they are talking about. Then, I look into it and I find a video via the good folks at Love Drunk Studios (where I first 'saw' the band Kill County - another winner in this category). The song is "Man Pt. 13 from the one man band 'South of [...]
