Ho Ho Ho, suckas! It is time for me to follow the unwritten blogger's code and throw some holiday music your way. But don't get me wrong, I love Christmas... I love getting presents, and I love giving presents even more, so accept these as my presents to you and you and especially you... First off, since it is House Music Friday, after all, here's a cut from the pretty darn cool Om Records holiday compilation released a couple years back. Although it was recorded under the [...]

I reckon that when Adolphe Adam composed this song, he wasn't thinking of Christmas, or Christmas eve. He was thinking of 24th April. Why 24th April? Because that was when my three pet anacondas graduated from their year long internship as altar boys and the Church of The Most Constricting. I celebrated with them by stealing my neighbour's 16 gerbils and sharing it equally. 16 divided by three, you say? Of course not! What, you think I eat steak and potatoes? Gerbil casserole is my specialty. What a holy night. South Park - [...]

The new Hives album, The Black And White Album , hits stores in about a month, however if you want to take a sneak peak feel free to listen to the following. MP3: The Hives - Tick Tick Boom I've always liked the Hives, I'm not really sure why. Anyway, I'm still trying to get over this sickness and I'm feeling better, thanks for all your emails I [...]

I spend a lot of time complaining about this country, but that doesn't mean I'm not proud to live here. But, since militarized expressions of nationalism are totally passe, I choose to express my patriotism through the medium of sports. And while I do often find myself cheering for other teams in some international competitions (you have to love underdogs), that absolutely does not hold true with soccer. Here, it's USA-all-the-way. That's why I'll be intently watching the US Men's National Team play Mexico tonight (at 9 PM on ESPN2) in their first (somewhat) meaningful game [...]
Day 3 in a crazy attempt to post 5 Christmas songs every day till Christmas Cartoony holiday goodness. From the memorable (Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas) to the wtf? Last night I attended a holiday shindig featuring one of my all time fave bands Soul Asylum, and the popular "stadium disco" band Scissor Sisters... It's always good to see Dan & Dave of Soul Asylum, even if audiences only know them for that one song. I happen to be a huge fan, and recall them as one of the best & most passionate live acts ever. They may have mellowed with age, death, kids, meteoric media rise and inevitable fade from platinum status, but they still have some chops to share... here's atrack [...]

Truth be told, I'm kind of sick of Christmas music. Not this year, necessarily - hell, we barely just entered December. And yes, I know I shouldn't be saying "hell" in a Christmas-themed post, but fuck it I just read Letter to a Christian Nation by atheist Sam Harris, and found it rather illuminating. So I'm pretty sure that God doesn't exist, or that he hates me right now anyway. On the bright side, he hates the Jews more, right? (hey, who let Mel Gibson in here?) Anyway, Christmas music is kind of [...]

The last two weeks i have listening to at least a million songs about Christmas on the net. Here are the ten ones i like the most. Buck Owens - Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song Belle and Sebastian - O Come, O Come, Emmanuel [...]
It's very likely that wherever you are, it's scary hot. One of our roving correspondents just returned from London, where the heat was horrific. Harry Shearer is doing his Le Show radio program from there, prior to his appearance at the Edinburgh Festival ; he compared the situation to that of Los Angeles, where it rains periodically, but people forget that and are unable to handle it. In England, it gets hot from time to time, but people never put in air conditioning. I hear it was damn hot. [...]

From the press release: "Asthmatic Kitty Records has announced plans to release a new collection of songs from Sufjan Stevens, titled The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album which will hit shelves on July 25, 2006. The little secret behind the Illinois record is that it was originally conceived as a double album, culminating in a musical collage of nearly 50 songs. But as the project began to develop into an unwieldy epic, common sense weighed inâ€"as did the opinions of othersâ€"and [...]
