Doctors & Dealers - the Swedish one woman band - has returned with a new EP titled Trouble , which is set to be released on the excellent date of December 10th (my birthday, in other words). This time D&D - or Sparrow, as she's also called - has worked with none other than Gordon Raphael, producer behind The Strokes and Regina Spektor. And he didn't just work on this EP but also the upcoming Doctors & Dealers' full length, Every Sinner Has A Future , the follow-up to Lost Friends And Newfound Habits [...]
~ Anders Parker - "Calling Out To You" ~ A sweet song, with a simple but effective chorus. I like the layers of instruments and the female background vocals. Pretty! From Parker's upcoming double concept album Skyscraper Crow which seems very promising from what I've heard so far. ~ Southside Stalkers - "Robert Downey Jr." ~ Another fun, upbeat tune by Sweden's Southside Stalkers. Despite being Swedish and an avid music-lover, I had not heard of Southside Stalkers before this week. I had however heard of the members' other musical projects as Sparrow is also behind the moniker Doctors and Dealers while Indy used to play in Moneybrother's band. Southside Stalkers formed in 2005 and released the debut Sound Of Speed in 2007 which they are now about to follow up with their sophomore album. Doctors and Dealers and Southside Stalkers are a pair of Swedish indie bands featuring a charming singer with the moniker Sparrow. Both bands are set to release their sophomore albums on Sweden's Bluesong Records in early 2009. Doctors and Dealers has a sound reminiscent of Holly Golightly or other '60s girl pop throwback acts. Southside Stalkers build on that sound with added elements of garage rock. [...]

Der typische Schwedenpop-Sound ist ja durchaus eher beschwingt und flockig. Dass es auch ein wenig erdiger geht, zeigen die Southside Stalkers aus Stockholm - beim Lauschen ihrer Klänge denkt man doch eher an staubige Weiten in den USA, und mit solch latent melancholischer Musik bin ich ja durchaus zu ködern. Das Quartett hat letztes Jahr sein Debütalbum «Sound of Speed» auf Truckland Music veröffentlicht und sollte alle Freunde besagter Wüstenmusik zwischen Mazzy Star und den Walkabouts Freudentränen in die Augen treiben.
