Have you noticed how these new retro-futuristic bands/producers always have a triangle, a city and laser lights thingies in their artwork, I can name alot of covers that have that. And I would like to have that too, but now I can't because that just makes me not genuine. That would make me a copy-cat, a fucking cat that copies and steal stuff. You know!!?! A little cat that's annoying. But whoever started making this kinda covers and artwork needs a hat off, he or she took a thing that we were ashamed of a couple a years [...]

Ella Fitzgerald - "Stairway to the Stars" You shouldn't destroy what you can't rebuild, like the earth, or the stars, a stairway from here to there. (Maybe we could rebuild the stairway but personally I wouldn't risk it. Because hey, that's where heaven is! On rungs, on beams! On hands and feet! Perilous! Off-balance! Lovely, lovely!) -------------------- It would be heaven to climb to heaven with you. [...]

made-in-singapore band etc 's "astrogal" begins with a roar and ends in a state of heavenly bliss, but in between the temperatures keep rising and the tensions keep building as it heads skywards. at the bottom of this space odyssey, though, is a plot that couldn't be more down to earth, and when the self-proclaimed astroboy starts weaving his tale of urban alienation and the paradoxes of a wrecked up love, you can't help but join him in his ambitious but ill-fated quest. it's not the prettiest trip, but when it's hijacked midway by guitars swirling out of orbit, [...]

(photo by VK Red Duvivier) On September 10, at NYC's avant garde leader John Zorn's space The Stone , Mercury Rev will perform two shows called "Trip Over the Light Fantastic", revolving around old material and new material from their upcoming record, Snowflake Midnight . And it only gets weirder. In the email from the kids at Yep Roc was this line: "Artist Alex Chechile will also join using a home-built electroencephalograph brainwave machine and hacked electrocardiograph heart monitor producing tones and music directly from the minds of Mercury Rev." For years, Moby has bristled when interviewers ask him about how his ecological beliefs square with his music popping up in car commercials. He'll be delighted to know that won't happen any more. Because there's a much more jaw-dropping "don't do as I do, do as I say" element popping up in his future : Moby signed up with Virgin Galactic to rocket into outer space on the first space tourism flight in 2010 for $207,000 U.S. Ah, yes, burning through an enormous pile of fuel, pumping extra emissions into the atmosphere [...]

I neglected to mention how earlier this week that Phoebe, Nicci and I went to see "Recap Rock" band Previously On Lost at Spaceland. If you are unfamiliar with the band, they are a group of nerds from Brooklyn who write songs that recap Lost episodes. The concept seemed intriguing. Unfortunately, the few song samples I heard on MySpace left much to be desired. The band's set was quite entertaining. They passed out leis, they had two band members dressed in Dharma Initiative jumpsuits, there was a giant cut-out of J.J. Abrams' head, and even a few inflatable [...]
