If you think about it, it's rather mind blowing how these days almost any promising emerging band can get a truly outstanding video made for somewhere between zero and a few thousand dollars. Until a few years ago, a video like this one by NYC retro-pop quartet Spacecamp of their single "Miko D.T.B." would have cost a fortune... kudos to director Philip Di Fiore who, according to IFC.com, "gives the piece a timeless feeling combining a love for old Blue Note record covers with magnificent manipulations of light and perspective."

It will have been a long time since you had this much fun listening to a rock band from New York City. Spacecamp with their debut EP Alibi just released on Tuesday, offer up lead single, "Miko D.T.B" or, if we can gather from the song's first lyrics, "Miko dropped the ball." What emerges is a song in two movements, the first a glittering array of synths and angular guitars that almost recall

People are loving the no spaces before "camp" these days (no pun intended, promise). Spacecamp, way to play off the popularity of Bandcamp. You know I'm kidding, but the more I think about it, the more I realize I was actually inclined to check out Spacecamp's music because of their name. If the name doesn't give you an idea for some form of their sound, then you're probably on the wrong site. Spacey indie-rock and catchy as all get out, Spacecamp is in it for the long haul. Four dudes based in totally unhip Brooklyn (...New York), Spacecamp [...]

Spicy Times is a monthly party at Union Hall put on by the blog of the same name that's a joint production of a couple other bloggers: Jinners and Nora of I Rock I Roll . This was the second edition and featured a couple hot new-ish bands, too much free Colt 45, which led to some silly dancing to '80s hits. This was my second time seeing Uninhabitable Mansions , a band that features Robbie and Tyler of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Annie from [...]

DJs Nora K and Jinners have put together a nice little bill tonight (02/27) for their Spicy Times gig at Union Hall . This evening's show features: Uninhabitable Mansions (Clap Your Hands + Au Revoire Simone), Spacecamp , and Vessels . Check out the awesome flyer below:

Not many people take a vacation to New York in January. Actually, it's quite likely no one does. But my friend Bill was having a birthday, quite a significant one too, and...umm, there were a bunch of good gigs coinciding with his birthday, so the trip was well worth any weather shortcomings. My flight from Seattle touched down at JFK right about the time one was making an emergency landing in the Hudson River . Oblivious to the events at hand, I deplaned and jumped in a cab to Brooklyn and Bill's place. The first thing I [...]
In a rather awkward exchange with E! Online, Joaquin Phoenix announced his decision to pack up his acting and head back to his new first true love, music. You know, the music that he's loved to play ever since he learned how to strum the guitar for Walk the Line three years ago. It's a hallowed path that young Phoenix takes, one blazed by the likes of Russell Crowe , Johnny Depp, and Keanu Reeves, not to mention his siblings River and Rain. And as you remember, all of them were beloved by millions for their [...]
