Sparkadia released Postcards in 2008 and it was the song Jealousy which really blew me away. It's a rare feat for Aussie rock to work so well. Usually it's Australian dance getting the attention. But this soft stuff is lovely. Talking Like I'm Falling Downstairs is Sparkadia's new single and they are working on a new album in London, expected to be released early next year. So I've been M.I.A. (ha music joke also) for a while. I am also totally out of the loop when it comes to music. So to anyone who is coming through this ghost town of a blog, hit 'comment' and hit me up with the coolest few tunes going around right now. I'll return the [...]

Triple J Radio Australia recently released Volume 5 of cover songs from their radio station's Like A Version show. Here, Whitley (real name Lawrence Greenwood) is joining the lineup of popular artists here on Like A Version putting his unusual spin on ABBA's Dancing Queen. Whitley recently released their album, 'Go Forth, Find Mammoth'. Bertie Blackman contributed again to Like A Version with an excellent cover of Phil Collins classic "In The Air Tonight" Bertie [...]
HAPPY NEW YEARS!! We are not going to tease you slowly giving you 10 songs a week until we reach 101. It may be overwhelming but we believe in not holding back and giving you everything at once! The only thing we ask in return is that you share this list with all your friends (on Facebook and twitter ) and bookmark it (Ctrl + D or Delicious ) for later viewing! In short, this list represents The Music Ninja in its entirety. It contains most of our favorite songs that we blogged in [...]

The Music Alliance Pact (MAP) began in October 2008 as an initiative to facilitate the spread of local music to the ears of others around the world. It started with 12 country specific blogs who each selected one hot local track that was posted on the sites of each of the other members of this "union". Now there are 26 countries included and I'm loving the diversity of the artists that get chosen. It's such a great idea--it makes heaps of sense that someone who lives and breathes a countries music, culture and language would be the one in the [...]

On my path to discover new music albums , I can't help but stop and tell you about the amazing alternative rock quartet from Sydney, Australia - Sparkadia . Since the release of their album Postcards , they have gained an enormous amount of attention in Australia and the UK touring and opening to bands like The Thrills , Jimmy Eat World and Vampire Weekend . Their upbeat catchy rock style and the constant incorporating of different musical elements into the each song has made their albums postcards a must listen. [...]

«Animals» : [...]
So excited about the Future Music Festival lineup. Particularly about Etienne De Crecy . Don't believe me? The first track is taken from a live set of his which I picked up somewhere. The second is taken from Super Discount 2 , a bunch of tracks by Etienne and friends. It's a little bit old, but track it down for some quality European electronic music. Oh how I hate compiling these lists. They are damn near impossible to sit back thinking 'Yes, that accurately represents my tastes'. You just can't do it! For starters, how do you compare an awesome live show with a solid album? Does it count if I got into an album this year that was released last year? I can barely remember back to the start of the year, let alone try to piece together which bands had the biggest impact! And so the list comes to you with so many faults. Missing bands, strange orderings and plenty of bias. You [...]
For those who have just, or are about to, finish the semester, this summer break is very well deserved. For the very few who have just handed in their final thesis and are graduating next year, my sincere congratulations. For those pondering about the future and decided to take a prolonged break next, may you enjoy it. For the majority who are just getting back to routine, or lack thereof, enjoy your days basking in the sun. This month's mixtape will hopefully get you ready for summer. For a four-piece whose infectious qualities ride heavily on an unconventional mixture of heartfelt optimism and captivating hooks, the choice to name Sparkadia 's debut album Postcards comes off as an apt choice. Because as lead vocalist Alex Burnett explains, the art of music is one of the best ways to channel emotions that are impossible to disclose in any other circumstances. "Many of the songs on this album are postcards I wish I had sent, and others are ones I really wish I didn't have to send," he says, being somewhat ambiguous [...]

This certainly isn't an album I expected to be reviewing. Especially not now, months after its release. You see, I've been following Sparkidia since the days of their first singles. So the build to this album was immense. As they delivered hit after hit, I came to expect something of a masterpiece from it. But when it did finally arrived, it seem spectacularly unremarkable. Sure, it had all those hits, but it was just the same old Sparkadia, no special surprises. Clearly I had been spoilt, because after a month neglect and silent disappointment I have returned to the album [...]
Echo Train – Chad VanGaalen You know a label is doing something right when you check out their bands, merely for the fact that they signed them. Such is my respect for Sub Pop. Unfortunately I didn't uncover an army of Shins-calibre bands, however I did find a few interesting songs. It's A Hit - Rilo Kiley This one's been sitting in the vault for a while now. They aren't groundbreaking, but this song's full of spite which must count for something. I think their standing has been [...]

Sparkadia -Â photo by boudist.com Time for more pop, courtesy of Sydney three piece Sparkadia . I first heard of this band on Sydney radio FBi 94.5fm , about two years ago. The singer Alex seems to have a gift for melody and catchy hooks. So I went to their next show, a free new music night called Jager Uprising. This was my first time going to one of these and by the time the band came on it was jam-packed. The band has invited all their friends to impress industry types. [...]

Well it's been exactly 1 month since this little corner of the interweb has seen the light of day, and it has to be said that it has exceeded all expectations in terms of visitors to the site, and responses from friends (though it would be nice if some of you left comments!). And with boudist giving us a huge plug the other day, we are well on our way towards world domination! Splendour is just around the corner, and that means there are an abundance of quality bands in oz right now. [...]
