Well this edition of Signal should be a hoot. Not only do we host Bok Bok on the first stop of his solo North American tour , but we've also got trap specialist MΔRRI$ coming in from Kansas to join in on the party. Aside from those two gentlemen, we've got resident Sparkletone as well as a special b2b set with Guidry and me. This is what you would call a well-rounded night of music. Also, we are giving away a pair of tickets . As per usual, shoot us an email [...]

This week we open our Signal doors to one of Manchester's finest: XXXY . His sound definitely leans more toward the House side of our UK influence, but it's brilliant nonetheless. Take a listen to his forthcoming Everything EP (out April 16 on Rounded Records) for a little taste of what Thursday is going to feel like. Thursday, March 22 @ Smartbar: XXXY Whoa-B Sparkletone Bizzies $5 advance, $10 night of / 10pm / Facebook / [...]

Continuing our journey into the past, present and future of Bass tunage, we welcome DJ/production duo Nguzunguzu . Not only is this our third Signal event, but it's also part of part of the Red Bull Music Academy - Chicago Sessions series. As such, Red Bull will be hosting a pre-party that's open to the public. Said pre-party poses as a meet and greet with free pizza and Red Bull, as well as a workshop/ QA with Nguzu and Supreme Cuts . See you there. Thursday, February 23 [...]

Before I rave about our January booking, I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who supported our first Signal event . I think I can vouch for everyone on the Signal crew when I say you all made our kickoff show a wonderful one. Having said that, there is no doubt in my mind that our follow-up guest will be just as spectacular. Pearson Sound. And that's all I'm going to say. Thursday, January 19 @ Smartbar: Pearson Sound DJ Warp Sparkletone [...]

Identity: Kyle Stewart ( download hi-res Dubbel Dutch poster) (warning: it's really hi-res) Well, this is quite exciting. Once again, one of the only clubs taking chances in Chicago has decided to open its doors to the "unusual". Ladies and gentleman, I'm proud to announce Signal , a brand new monthly party at SmartBar featuring the emerging sounds of Bass, Garage and UK Funky. To kick off this wonderful event, we've summoned the classiest selector in Texas. Yep, it's Dubbel Dutch . With a fresh release on Mixpak Records and a deep knowledge [...]

I made a half promise that I'd channel my inner "Altered Zone" to write this one, but... I'm just not capable of producing that caliber of literature. I am, however, very capable of presenting the 10th chapter of our Mix Series! The 10 spot, if you will. This coveted 10 spot comes to us from local Chicago DJ, producer, playboy; Sparkletone . As you can probably tell by the track list and time stamp below, this is the longest mix of the series. Clocking in at just under an hour and a half of solid bass music, one [...]

As you can see from this beautifully crafted flyer, Markus of LOL Boys will flying in from Montreal to help take-over Temper , a monthly UK Funky/ Tropical/ Bass night at Beauty Bar. What you won't get from Markus' flyer is when he'll be flying in, and that's this Friday, April, 8th. So, if you're in the mood for some bass music from the best DJs in the entire universe, come hang out with us, we'll buy you shots*. Friday, April 8 @ Beauty Bar: LOL Boys (Palms Out Sounds, LA/ Montreal) [...]

Well, 2010 marks another great year for music in the books. I'll spare you the windy analysis that seems to come with these lists, but I want to preface this post by saying that these are just what we loved in 2010, by no means are we advocating that these are "the best of the best." But then again, who really can, right? No one. Enjoy and let us know what you think! Bizzies "By The Numbers" for full transparency... Most viewed [...]

To add an extra level of panache to this year's "Best of" lists, I've asked my buddy Sparkletone to weigh in. Him and I seem to disagree on many things revolving around music, so I figured it would be fun to see what he thought of this past year. Like the past several years, all albums will link to iTunes and mixes to wherever they're already hosted (as opposed to direct download.) Sparkletone's year in reflection: I hate the implication of [...]

Disco, drinking and dancing in an attic with Chicago's not-so-rich and hopefully, maybe someday, famous. Enough said. Friday night. Be there. Swag out. MUSIC BY Adulture Sparkletone Kid Color PLUS Sean Alban Secret Triangle DJs (CT's Jams Dean & Moneyworth)

Sparkletone threw me a mix recorded at his Spandexxx set at Beauty Bar last weekend. Lotta heat in it, too! As a little added bonus he also tossed in his Spank Rock / Todd Edwards edit, that you can snag along with it. MP3: Sparkletone Spandexxx Mix 11/20 MP3: Spank Rock - What It Look Like (Todd Edwards Remix)(Sparkletone Refix) Spandexxx [...]

Fresh off of his warmly accepted opening/ interim sets for Caribou & Emeralds, Sparkletone is in the mix with some new jams for you. Falling in line with the flurry of Disco House/ Nu Disco/ what-have-you releases that came out this Summer, "The Tone" throws his hat into the proverbial ring with "For Another" and "I Think of You". The former carries a strong "party starter" vibe, while the latter feels more geared towards the "end of the night boner-jams" vibe. While you're in the "Sparklezone" (see what I did), be sure to check out his newest mix for Chicagoist [...]

Back in 2008, you know, the year Crookers were getting big? I heard of this duo called Black Holes from Chicago. They were freakin' raw and amazing and I loved it all. But after they did a remix for Little Jinder in a remix contest, they just flat out disappeared. What a Sad moment indeed... Well it's nice to know they're still alive and kicking as they've sent out their latest production. Enjoy the new with a little bit of old! New Stuff [...]

I really dig that we're known as the blog that will post slow bpm dance music. That is exactly how Chicago producer and occasional DJ, Sparkletone , sold me on his newest track, Make Me Satisfaction . Every time I hear something from Sparkletone I have the exact same reaction; who IS this dude? He has a encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music, rarely plays out and keeps his production work hush-hush. I really don't know why he's so evasive, Make Me Satisfaction is one hell of a track, five minutes of slow-burning super sexy [...]

Phil RetroSpector - Eleanor's Metamorphosis [ mp3 ] The Beatles VS Sparkletone uhh, something happened with our self-confessed melancholic there is a BEAT in this mash :D maybe Phil will start to make dance music soon ;)

Remember when I mentioned that some of the Chicago Disco Massive were launching a new disco-centric party in the new year? I rarely post on specific events, but today they unveiled their first guest as the one and only Mike Simonetti (of Italians Do It Better ) and that's one hell of a kickoff that's left me excited and impressed. The party is titled Trick Disco , the inaugural evening is scheduled for January 15th and it will take place, going forward, the third Friday of every month at Subterranean here in Chicago. [...]

For so long I've wondered who Sparkletone was... Now I know. He's a man of Disco. A man of Funk. And more importantly, a man of teeth (reference post image). His newest mix, Hi This is Sparkletone , was done for Hot Biscuits' monthly installment on TheHype.FM 's radio show. This months session is packed with old school classics and a few new school gems like Nice Guys' ( Curt Flosstradamus + Kid Color ) "I Don't Want You Back". In the past we've had myself and Markus G (formerly [...]
MP3: Final Fantasy - Cockatrice (Sparkletone Remix) ( ysi )
