This weeks edition of new tunes comes to you courtesy of Fitz and the Tantrums . After blowing everyone out of the water in 2010 with Pickin' Up the Pieces , they will finally (officially) return next Tuesday with their second full album More Than Just a Dream . Many of you have probably heard the lead track and first single "Out of My League" and know that the soul-pop group is bringing the noise exactly the way they know how. Other tracks that stood out to me include "Spark," "Fools Gold," which is probably the most pop-influenced and one [...]
From disco to rave, a brief history of dance music record covers.

XPN welcomes Aimee Mann and Ted Leo to World Cafe Live at The Queen tonight. After sharing a bill last fall while Mann was promoting her latest Charmer LP, the singer-songwriter and Ted Leo teamed up for a proper collaboration called #BOTH earlier this year. The pair will return to their usual roles for this tour, however, with Leo filling in the support slot and probably reprising songs from the discography of his band The Pharmacists, as well as possibly (and hopefully) previewing songs from a new album he's [...]

Photos and words by Melissa Moore Maybe it was the quiet walk in darkness among the grave sites and palm trees of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, or the ominous high-backed chairs and stained glass windows of the old Masonic Lodge, or the reverential mood of the intimate, sold-out crowd of hardcore fans (two of the front row attendees had flown in from Canada and Massachusetts), or the hour of circus music that filled the hall before the duo took the stage - whatever the reason, last night's Sparks show was the kind of transcendental experience I always [...]

Hamilton College band Mugen is the brainchild of one Liam Frost. Their introduction to us comes via their infectious single “Sparks”. Using Passion Pit-esque euphoric synths to light up the sky, the delicate layered vocals keep us humbled on the ground. Also, adding slight classical infuences into the mix, this sprightly gem gives more than enough reasons to be hopeful of the next generation of synth-pop acts ready to let loose. Download below. Stream their entire Sparks EP on Soundcloud .

Beware's known as the guy who often finds the diamond in the rough through all the submissions TSS receives. So when he recommended L.atasha A.lcindor and Dayne Jordan's "Red Light, [...]

Thumpty-dump, thumpty-dump, thumpty-dump! Weaving through dense traffic on I-10, blazing past the gargantuan Cabazon dinosaurs and billboards championing musicians of all flavors (from the XX to Ghost BC), speeding by battalions of wind turbines is the greying asphalt that leads to Indio, CA - aka, the "out there" world of Coachella Music and Arts Festival . It's a wild sight once you're there: Ticketholders - fresh off the freeway from office cubicles and lecture halls - sport pasty complexions and keen, darting eyes. The air's filled with overheard chatter about the schedule, what kind of cute outfits everyone's packed, and whether [...]

Set times for 20132s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival have been announced, and if you're like us at BBLA HQ, you're already mapping out a game plan for whom you want to see. The thing is, every year always presents some conflicts leaving you no choice but to choose one band over another. Conflicts in the desert may vary in degrees from person to person, but here are a few that are causing some hair-pulling ... Friday [...]

Glam-rock revivals can be a tricky endeavor. One can't simply assume the presence and personality of a David Bowie or Bryan Ferry, legends of their craft who mixed commanding vocal authority with playful creativity in their songwriting, which was often thematic and ranged from the gloomily haunting to brightly infectious romps. Recent glam-owing artists like Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and Foxygen concoct certain sounds of the past, which is a challenge in itself, but their music is so striking mainly because it possesses a sort of rare bursting personality; it's a trait exemplary of the best rock music of the '60s and [...]

![Chrome Sparks – Sparks [EP]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4816044_lg.jpg)
Chrome Sparks never ceases to impress, remixes and singles alike, the artist has yet to disappoint. The new Sparks EP has that same glow. Singles, "Send the Pain On" and "Marijuana" both make appearances but are far from the only standout tracks on this release. Sparks doesn't miss a beat. The EP is replete with tracks that can both lull you to sleep and make you dance all night. Sparks is Springtime music and with the new season right around the corner, it's just in time. By Phoebe Anne Severin [...]
Hail To The Thief has, to my ears, always seemed to stand as Radiohead's most expressive, and thereby successful work. It's an opinion I think few uphold, though one I stand by staunchly. Unerringly, even. By that same decree, I've always perceived Where I End and You Begin (The Sky Is Falling In) to be their most convincing composition: those modulated, almost grimacing synths; the violently thrashed snares; the awry vocal and the ensuing sirens which sound as though they're hounding Thom Yorke until death do him part and they do indeed eat him alive. It's visceral; eruptive as [...]
