THE PASSThe Pass, pronounced 'pash,' come from the land of Colonel Sanders. In case you were wondering, that land is called Kentucky. Oh, and you actually pronounce the band's name 'pass.' Although, The Pash would be a fitting name considering some of their similarities to Passion Pit. All of that is whatev's, though. The band is set to release their full-length debut soon, and here is a pretty

Jesse Woods - Sparks If this singer-songwriter from Austin, TX has troubles getting a nice beautiful lady then we all have no hope. hat tip: friends with both arms

1. New York Dolls [...]

If you're a regular reader of Breaking More Waves you'll know that we've been getting quite excited about Spark . The 18 year old London based singer with the red lipstick, strong pop voice and just a hint of soul appears to be sitting in the elevator having just pressed the up button. We're looking forward to watching it rise. Whilst we wait for her next release following the confident start that was Shut Out The Moon , there's a new video that she's whacked up on the internet. Following [...]

Words: Saam Das July was a bit of a disappointing month for singles. Few, if any, amazing releases and some of the best ones were re-releases ( 'Stillness Is The Move' and 'Fire Escape' ), which I don't like talking about because it might suggest I endorse such blatant cash grabs. Maybe I'm being overly harsh. In other respects though, I'm being far too lenient giving Adam Lambert (of 'American Idol' fame) a [...]
Alain Johannes - Spark - August 31 - Rekords Rekords - Songwriter, producer, composer Johannes has collaborated with the likes of Queens of the Stoneage and Them Crooked Vultures. But it is his late wife, musician Natasha Shneider, who died of cancer in 2008, that kindles Spark 's intensely personal focus. A D.I.Y. effort, Johannes says "I had to be alone in that space". Mixing acoustic folk intensity with a grab bag of invigorating and inspiring indie pop elements, tracks such as "Angel Eyes" burn quietly -- and not. [...]
Photography: nivea-cream I came by Pink Ganter while browsing The Knocks' "Make It Better" remix EP . I'm pretty sure these guys possess the hand of Midas. The Knocks - Make It Better (Pink Ganter Remix) Spark - Shut Out The Moon (Pink Ganter Remix) William Fitzsimmons - So This Is Goodbye (Pink Ganter Remix) [...]

While I was in LA this past weekend, I was able to check out some of the Origami Vinyl LA Approved Show @ Bar Melody. Here are some photos and mp3s... First up is Future Ghost . Listen: Scream White Noise (mp3) This mp3 does not convey the heaviness that was Kissing Cousins . Listen: Red Lamb (mp3) [...]

I have to say that I'm pretty jealous of all the people that are going to be in Chicago this weekend for P4K Festival. Of the acts playing P4K, I'm pretty bummed that LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene Delorean, Robyn, and a slew of other acts that haven't scheduled any dates here in Denver. Despite the bad news, next week brings the UMS to South Broadway here in town. The four day festival boasts lucha libre and a burlesque show, oh-la-la! Hopefully you've already bought your wristbands in advance, because [...]

We've never made any secret about the fact that we love all the tips / ones to watch lists at the end of the year, including our own which we publish at the start of December. Yes, there's nothing like a bit of self loving now and then. There will always be arguments about the worth of such lists (we've written a number of times about lists such as the BBC Sound Of Poll including here , here and here ) but essentially we love playing musical [...]

"My oh my we wanna be someone" Sperm. This song is about sperm. Or, more specifically, it's a song written from the sperm's perspective. I don't often post flashback tracks, but I was listening to this track (and the BRILLIANT album it comes from) this weekend and realized that it needed to be highlighted. If you're not a Sparks fan and have even a passing interest in the music I post on this blog, check them out immediately. They're one of the best bands of the 70's (and the 80's, 90's and 00's - they've been [...]

How about a bit of pop on a summers day? No is not an option. Spark is young, shiny new and has an electronica-sweet, pop sound, so if it were December the Guardian would be quaking and announcing her as rising sensation for 2011. So let's get all hysterical and announce she might be one to watch for Autumn! Oooo. We're cutting the hyperbole ten-fold here at Pop Cultureddd . This is a demo of her current single doing the rounds. Very nice to stick on your non-brand MP3 player and accompany [...]

We've been away the whole weekend to celebrate Midsummer , one of Sweden's most important holidays. In Sweden we celebrate Midsummer different from most people. We're dancing around a maypole, wearing traditional folk costumes, wearing crowns of wild flowers on our head, eating pickled herring with new potatoes and of course drinking a lot of "snaps". It's the Sweden way of fun. But now we're back and have to make to a little round up from the inbox. Today there will be no words due to the weekend's hangover, but the [...]

So, Gypsy & The Cat singlehandedly saved Remix Roundup this week. I was totes uninspired by the offerings out there and then I remembered I had majorly been grooving to their insanely catchy "Jona Vark" about six months ago, and thought I'd poke around the internet and see what the Aussie duo had been up [Read Full Post...]

Read about the next release from Sweden's Kent ! Watch the video to the new version of Carpark North 's hit Human (MOTM likes the old one muuuuch better!) Listen to an excellent remix of I [...]

Recently supporting Marina & The Diamonds, the new pop sensation Spark will release her debut single, 'Shut Out The Moon', on July 12th on Puregroove. Monsieur Adi's remix of the track is solid gold. Stuck on repeat: Spark: 'Shut Out The Moon' [Monsieur Adi Remix] [ mp3 ] Pre-order the 73 vinyl single here

The first time we heard Spark our immediate thoughts were similar to when we first heard Marina and the Diamonds - there was definitely something there, perhaps not fully realised yet, but her songs ooze with slightly left of centre pop potential. It therefore seems highly appropriate that Spark has just finished a series of support slots with Marina and is due to release her debut single Shut Out the Moon on July 12th. Spark is not this 18 year old London based singers real name [...]
