Mia Sparrow - [mee-uh-spar-o] (Album)

Mia Sparrow - [mee-uh-spar-o] (Album) Forming in 2009, the Dublin/New York based band Mia Sparrow are a trio of Irish experimental/rockers who recently released their album [mee-uh-spar-o] . This is already the second album for this band, even though they only been playing three years together. The music combines fuzzy guitars, drums, synths, omnichord and samples to create a distorted sound, but it works well. You can listen and download the album below. Museum Lates: Night of the Mummy with Sparrow and the Workshop and Bwani Junction, Edinburgh, National Museum of Scotland

Museum Lates: Night of the Mummy with Sparrow and the Workshop and Bwani Junction, Edinburgh, National Museum of Scotland Museum Lates: Night of the Mummy By Steve Mcgillivray February 24, 2012 It's not every day you get to go an see a band in a museum. Luckily tonight I was getting the chance to see two bands. That's only part of what's on offer though as the National Museum of Scotland is throwing open it's doors to 2,000 people and letting them loose in the newly refurbished museum. As I wander in through the doors I'm pleased to see it's a very mixed crowd. As you may [...]

In Video…Sparrow & The Workshop // You Don't Trust Anyone We were sent this today and we thought it was just lovely and we thought you might appreciate it to. It's from our favourite Scottish-noise-folksters Sparrow & The Workshop who you may remember wrote this splendid European tour diary for us late last year. Here is Jill from the band to explain some more about the video; Last year we had the opportunity to propose a video project to some students of the Vis Com course at Glasgow School of Art. In the end we came away with [...]

Peaking Lights - Hey Sparrow (Video)

Peaking Lights - Hey Sparrow
Peaking Lights - Hey Sparrow (Video) Such warm, rich colourings and strange scenes on show in Husband-Wife duo Peaking Lights ' new video. 'Hey Sparrow', from second LP " 936 " (out now on Domino imprint Weird World / Not Not Fun ), clocks and chimes with tentative guitar motifs and the occasional flourish of delay; cult film-maker Cam Archer (Xiu Xiu, Julianna Barwick, Sarabeth Tucek) visualising the graininess of the Warpaint-esque vocals, close acoustic instrumentation and eery drone effects into something homely and intimate yet distant, dream-like and unusual. Narrow Sparrow - Synthworks (2011)

Narrow Sparrow - Synthworks (2011) Genre: Space Age Batchelor Pad Music Absolute lovely EP from a guy who loves all kinds of vintage tech ads and manuals. Large tapemachines, control boards, old synths and stuff like that. His music is absolutely fun, filled with spacey Theremin sounds, unexpected guitar lines, electronic rock'n'roll ballads and he may borrowed the chipmunks from Dan Deacon for background vocals. Well done Rick [ This is the summary, read the whole story on Website ]

WATCH: Narrow Sparrow channels Joe Meek

Narrow Sparrow - Joe Meek's Dream (Music Video)
Leave it to Chicago indie poppers Narrow Sparrow to teach a whole new generation of experimental, space pop music fans about British 60's songwriter and producer Joe Meek. Famously the Brit also thought he could speak to Buddy Holly in his dreams. Narrow Sparrow's latest video features stop-animation images of Meek riding a rocket to the moon, whose face is Buddy Holly. There's also cameos by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and Paul McCartney spliced in between grainy footage of Narrow Sparrows performing a sweet, almost-folky pop jam. Truly the video and the subsequent trip [...]

The Lovely Sparrows: Tall Cedars Of Lebanon (Album Review)

The Lovely Sparrows: Tall Cedars Of Lebanon (Album Review) The Lovely Sparrows have a way of putting together words and music that make the band one of today's leading folk-rock and folk-pop artists. With Tall Cedars of Lebanon , the Sparrows continue the trend they began as early as their debut EP, Pulling Up Floors, Pouring On (New) Paint . The musicianship remains just as tight and focused as was on Bury The Cynics . But Tall Cedars isn't without its difference from the band's prior work. Where Tall Cedars [...]

Tin Sparrow – 'Hector Myola'

Tin Sparrow – 'Hector Myola' There is something really beguiling about Tin Sparrow 's latest release. The Sydney folk quartet have definitely distinguished themselves from the pack. Rising from their yet-to-be-named forthcoming EP, 'Hector Myola' has a marching beat, beautiful vocals and a sweet driving guitar hook that makes me really excited to hear the rest of what Tin Sparrow have under wraps. Tin Sparrow - Hector Myola by Tin Sparrow To record their second EP (Out early 2012), Tin Sparrow made the trek up to Cairns to work with [...]

GFP Feature…Sparrow & The Workshop – European tour diary (Part Two)

GFP Feature…Sparrow & The Workshop – European tour diary (Part Two) Last week we bought you the first part of Sparrow & The Workshop's European tour diary. The band have just a few shows left on what is their first headline jaunt across the continent and GFP can now bring you the second part of their diary. Nick takes over the writing duties from Jill to bring us tales of red-light districts, strange things left in hotel beds, police, police, and more police... Day 4; Strip-Club National Dish, Basel [...]

Review: Sparrow and the Workshop – Faded Glory (Distiller Records)

Haunting, echoing sonic rock with a The Sonic Youth/The Cardigans kick and, the coup de grace of a Blondie in chill out mode edge to the vocals is the chosen approach, 'Faded Glory'. Jill Sullivan's vocal display is one of variety and her build up to the lofty delivery of the poetic part of the lyrics, lends the song some vocal mystique to go with the murky accompaniment. This expansive, driving atmospheric rock foray is one of the more compelling, meaningful and well built numbers from the hit and miss 'Spitting Daggers' album. It's a song that takes [...]

GFP Feature…Sparrow & The Workshop – European tour diary (Part One)

GFP Feature…Sparrow & The Workshop – European tour diary (Part One) We've never shied away from admitting out love for Sparrow & The Workshop . The Scottish trio's folk-pop musings won us over from the moment we first laid ears on them; in fact 20102s debut long-player Crystals Fall even made it into our top-thirty records of the year. When we heard that the band were shooting off to mainland Europe for their first ever headline jaunt, we asked them to keep a little diary for us [...]

The Lovely Sparrows

The Lovely Sparrows Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: There's plenty to see tonight. Weird Weeds are playing Cherrywood Coffeehouse, Friendly Fires and Theophilus London are at La Zona Rosa, and Death Cab For Cutie has Telekinesis opening for them at the Austin Music Hall. The Lovely Sparrows have pretty much been a SOTO favorite since the creation of the site, so it really pleases me to be posting up the first single off their brand new EP, Tall Cedars Of Lebanon. Check [...]
