Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. mp3 - Spectre Folk - The Blackest Medicine Spectre Folk makes hazy pysch-folk on the label that brings you the best of that aesthetic around (Woods, White Fence, etc), Woodist . Blackest Medicine is off The Blackest Medicine, Vol. 2 12-inch which dropped on Mar. 29. 1000bonus, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth plays drums on the EP, which you can get here .

I think I'm starting to lose my touch. I look at all the show listings with the new bands, and none of them interest me very much. Maybe we're in a lull. Does anyone feel like we're in a musical lull, for the past several months or so? I sure do. Luckily, FINALLY, a band I could get on board with tomorrow, though! MV & EE have been around for awhile. If you're unfamiliar, I would classify them solidly in the New Weird America camp- messing around with Americana and acid rock guitar solos. I saw them at the Abrons [...]

Spectre Folk — Keep Your Teeth Clean I can't speak for Ben, but I'll be posting a bit sporadically over the next few days due to schoolwork/other silly, real-world obligations. That being said, I couldn't help but sneak in this track from Spectre Folk 's The Blackest Medicine, Vol. II (out on Woodsist ). The name Spectre Folk may not ring any bells, but some will recognize its founder/ringleader Pete Nolan from his work with CT's Magik [...]

In anticipation of the release of Spectre Folk's new LP, The Blackest Medicine Vol.2 , next week. We thought we would share this super spaced out bit of psych-folk/auditory hallucinogen , Sat Around For Peace (This Time) off of 2009's Compass, Blanket, Lantern, Mojo . Do not operate, or think about, thinking about operating heavy machinery whilst listening to this track. Spectre Folk; Sat Around For Peace (This Time)
As the new tracks pour in, and out of our ears, we're doing our best to keep up with them all. The amount of great music - from new bands and DIY artists to veterans and legends - is overwhelming, so being picky about what songs to post is increasingly important, and challenging. You'll see [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Spectre Folk-The_Blackest Medicine Spectre Folk : Love Songs for Ghosts, Black Magic for Children Remember Devendra Banhart before he cut his hair and started dating actresses, when he was a crystal-bindi'd freak who made creepy/gorgeous lo-fi that sounded like love songs written by ghosts and rested comfortably between shitty and brilliant? Even though he eventually went on to write songs about Lindsay Lohan, we mere mortals still get to enjoy the legacy of the [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. You can stream all the songs in this mix using the Yahoo media player at the bottom of the page OR if you are browsing with Chrome you can play (and scrobble ) the whole page using the ex.fm extension OR you can [...]

Spectre Folk is Pete Doolan (previously DCed here), drummer for Magik Markers and a player in GHQ, a crafter of parsed down, lo-fi psych-folk. No better companion could've been made for Doolan and his joyfully fuzzed out concoctions then the good folk at Woodsist, the lighthouse on a hill for all things lo-fi and folk. [...]

Pete Nolan of Magik Markers fame will be releasing a new EP on Woodsist March 29th under his Spectre Folk moniker. It's always a pleasure to put his music on this site and "The Blackest Medicine" is Nolan at his best. The Blackest Medicine mp3[ via ]

Pete Nolan is the man behind Spectre Folk. His EP, The Blackest Medicine, Vol. 2 , is due out on March 29. Take this little number for a spin below. We think it's pretty cool. Spectre Folk; The Blackest Medicine

Tuesday was a nice little CMJ warm-up. I caught a few acts at Cake Shop in the afternoon, but nothing compared to the magnitude of the "I'm gonna stand outside Pianos in a giant clump wearing cool shoes and smoking a cigarette" that there was today, and that there probably has been for the entire history of CMJ for as long as Lower East Side venues have been open (my brother, who's married with a kid now, remembers when his [totally awesome] band played Arlene's during CMJ in the 80s!!!). Sunglasses were pretty neat- they had a great [...]

Welcome to day number one of CMJ. There's obviously a lot of music going on this week, and if you do a bit of planning ahead, it will be quite good. While I feel that the quality of this year's bands is a little bit thinner than in year's past (more due to lack of breadth than depth, maybe because CMJ's controversial #Offline Fest has corralled a very good sampling of who's in town into something separate, and maybe because I'm used to SXSW's complete dominance of the entire scope of music trends), if you spend a little big of [...]

Over the summer I went a bit early to Big Sur, California to attend the spectacle in the woods that was Woodsist Fest and by doing so I was able to catch Magic Markers drummer Pete Nolan's side project Spectre Folk perform a set before the festival even began (turns out they were a very last minute addition). As I sat three rows over from Jeremy Earl sipping on brew as he nodded his head to the psychedelic sounds I began to listen more intently and soon I was in syc with Earl. Needless [...]
