Proper, proper techno via Speedy J's Electric Deluxe label from Endless and their new Connection EP . To listen and buy. There are three tracks on the EP, with two clocking in at over 9 minutes. The EP opens with Synchronising , which has the dark relentless techno tones of early Underworld but without the lighter synth relief. Easily the best track here. Varying Paths plays a bit more of the minimal card. The EP ends with Clearing , which has more dark murk but less effectively than Synchronising . Endless - [...]

Taken from the 'Something For Your Mind' EP, this is a real pleasure. Some folk, unable to attune their bodies and minds to anything less than 120bpm argue that this should be played at 45rpm. They're wrong. Ignore them. If you want a tinny sounding, helium-hysterical, aural racket, then be my guest but if you want a dreamy, sensual slice of techno, then play it as it was meant to be played. I was never a big fan of Speedy J's, his brand was too harsh and brittle to my ears for the most part but this is the proverbial exception to the rule. A subdued, meandering intro which, after a minute or [...]

Get ready for a new exciting collaborative project on Electric Deluxe! "Workshops" is a new experimental series of releases by Phil Kieran and Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J). The idea behind this project is to explore the recording techniques used in the middle of the 20th century and dating right back to the mid 1950's. Famous inspirational places like 'BBC Radiophonic Workshops' in England and 'Philips Lab' in Holland have seen some of the most innovative production techniques, experimenting with the first use of stereo, modular synths, found sounds and reel to reel tapes. The end result was [...]

Proper miminal techno from Terence Fixmer on Electrix Deluxe. Le Terrible sounds odd in English. A bit comedy and unthreatening. Too much ' Allo 'Allo! perhaps. The title track is one of those digital sounding techno tracks, nothing organic, all metallic. Minimal style of techno that menances and threatens but doesn't actually damage. Concept C is another slower menancing track, with a bit of distortion round the beats. Doesn't quite deliver. Dance Like Paranoid has wind whistling in the background. A minimal techno groover. Very early 90s [...]

Speedy J tells us .."I recorded 2 hours of music from my collection that i hadn't heard for a while and that i wanted to hear again. Over the years my library has grown to such proportions that i can treat it as an archeological site. this podcast represents an excursion through the site, crossing genres and time. there was no concept, just random digging and stumbling upon surprises and personal memories. ps the track list is crowd-sourced, feel free to ID!" A bit cheeky this and a bit lazy. This is a track taken from an EP over at Chemical Beats . The full ep's here but I wanted to highlight the Speedy J remix from 1991. Speedy J (previously here ) is Dutch techno atist Jochem Paap and has featured here quite a few times. The Dutch Department of Techno was Maarten van der Vleuten, for whom Starwood Party was the only release under the DDofT name. But he has a bewildering assortment of other aliases, including Phantom Power, DJ Dusk, Plux and Pultec. [...]

Nolan's recent trawl at Castles in Space through early Warp Records releases made me dig this out of the closet. I know nothing about Wildplanet (or Wild Planet). But the ever-helpful discogs says " During the Warp Records releases, a duo consisting of Simon J. Hartley and Richie Brook. Since then, Hartley is the sole member ." This release dates from 1992 and is WAP22. The remix I've taken is from Speedy J (Jochem Papp - previously here ). This nine minute mix suffers from the usual crackles at the start, not helped [...]
Dutch dj, live act and producer legend Speedy J is back on the CLR Podcast with a mix he recorded during his performance at this year´s Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam. Chris Liebing actually asked him specifically for a part of this set, as he remembered that it rocked very much. So here is the CLR Podcast 124 with a very special recording by sonic wizard and techno pioneer Speedy. For more information about Jochem George Paap pka Speedy J, please read his profile below: Jochem Paap (the Rotterdam artist owes the nickname Speedy J to his DJ skills) [...]
This week's podcast features Californian techno warrior Drumcell (Moe Espinosa). One of the founders of the infamous Droid organization, his needles-in-the red beats and minimalistic funk of techno pedigree released on Droid, CLR and Drumcode amongst others have earned him gigs across the world and support from heavy weights such as Speedy J, Richie Hawtin [...]

Speedy J has been smashing out the releases of late and With the Shoegaze EP Speedy J has created another incredible body of work. A snapshot of a process, a form that emerges without intention – Half dreaming and half awake - shaping a relentlessly pulsing tracks, vibrant and effortlessly contemporary. The vinyl A side Shoegaze (Speedy J out of Focus Dub) takes you right into the core of Speedy J's massive production wizardry. Amorphous drone sounds, dusty yet smooth and intimate, create a monumental space, while a pulsing sub-bass is luring you into the groove. The vinyl [...]
![Speedy J & Gary Beck 'VAAG' This is Techno [BEK Audio]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3539165_lg.jpg)
Both Jochem Paap ( Speedy J ) and Gary Beck need no introduction and if you've been keeping a close eye on the techno scene, we assume you've heard of Edit Select too. Let's skip the nonsensical yapping and get straight to brass tacks. Up first is Gary Beck's Deranged Version of Vaag , a mid-tempo, reverb-fused techno tune that combines Speedy J's industrial sound to Gary's trademarked melodic approach. The result is a super heavy, a floor mover with some very nice effecting. Following up is Edit Select's Slo Hand [...]
LABEL Electric Deluxe ARTIST Speedy J REMIXERS Edit Select TITLE Shoegaze EP [...]
Speedy J's Electric Deluxe inprint is still only just into its 15th release, however they have a sound they are pushing which tips the cap to the old guard but still sounds ever so fresh. Label artist Gary Beck appears to have the Midas touch at the moment, if a moment could resemble a whole year, but you can't fail to see the hard graft he has been putting in with release after release. A tricky thing to do and still keep the quality up, but for [...]

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy Sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. Did you know Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk has a side project? Normally acting as 50% of the prolific [...]

Some proper techno in a mix by Dutch techno master Speedy J (previously here ) with a five and three quarter hour mix, taken from a seven hour set. The mix is available to download but it's 795mb! Trying to describe a mix like this is rather pointless but it contains pounding techno, some tribal and a bit of tech house. Speedy J - Special 2011
Man, remember when DJs played for more than 45mins? Speedy J Special 2011 by jochempaap
