Recently Virgil and I were bullshitting and mentioned that he was wanting to start dabbling with some music writing again and I offered him a reoccurring piece here on ninebullets. This is his first submittal: From time to time, the question gets asked, " What was your first show? " It's usually a fun conversation that involves admitting enjoying an act that you can't believe you ever liked. Sometimes the first show is a show that your parents brought you to. Every once in a while, that first [...]
Don't fuck with an East Bay G!!! Oh shit! Let this just ride. Classic.

While Das EFX was tongue twisting and bum-stiggity'ing there way along the East, Spice 1 was utilizing a similar highly stylized, rapid-fire delivery but added more local color to his lyrics. The result was a debut album full of tracks similar to "In My Neighborhood." I was going to roll with the video but YouTubey disabled embedding on it. Still, even a little html setback can't stop me when I'm West Coast'ing. Spice 1 - "In My Neighborhood"

You never thought you'd see the phrases ' Spice 1 ' and 'mixtape' in the same phrase, did you? Well, me neither and that's why I was quick on the draw to help spread this Bay Area staple's latest shotgun blast, Notorious Bastards Vol. 1 Mixtape . Don't expect much more than tales from the hood and quick-tongued massacres, but hey, that's just the thug in him. Download Mixtape | Free Mixtapes Provided by DatPiff.com

"Life threw me a curveball/I done been through a lot of shit/Ain't smoked a blunt in three months cause I just took a lung hit/From a nine millimeter while I was sittin' in a 'Lac/In time tables'll turn and I'ma get that nigga back..." When the West's most loved and adored artists are mentioned, hearing Spice 12s name often fails to be named - in terms of mainstream recognition - alongside the Cubes, Pacs, Snoops, Dres, Too Shorts and E-40s of the world. While he may or may not deserve it, [...]

This came out of nowhere. West Coast legend, Spice 1 linked up with Devin the Dude and Scarface for a locc'd out track to light up to. A lot of sites are tagging this as featuring 2pac even though his vocals are placed on the hook and there's no actual verse. Regardless, this is a banger... Spice 12s mixtape, Notorious Bastards, drops next week. Props to eskay Download: Spice 1 - "Rollin & [...]

Somehow this Spiceburg Slim song has managed to sneak on damn near every other compilation I've burned in the past six months. That, coupled with the fact I've been able to spit it in my sleep since sophomore year of high school, leaves me wishing I hadn't dug up AmeriKKKa's Nightmare from my old CD book earlier this year. That doesn't mean you won't enjoy this sing-a-long pistol-popper though. Download - Spice 1 - "Strap On The Side"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =OJTunhUs1-g It's rarely discussed today, but re-visiting Spice 1 (and Celly Cel ) I'm struck by how pervasive the G-Funk influence was on mid-90s Bay Area production. Dre's snake eater synths were everywhere. Obviously, the Bay had its own distinct identity, and these sort of generalizations are dangerous - inasmuch as theorizing to the web void can be "dangerous." Souls of Mischief, Saafir, Digital Underground and the Whoridas all had their own singular sound, let alone in terms of contrast to E-40 or Spice 1 or Mac Dre or Too Short, or [...]
The things you can do while smoking blunts aren't nearly as cool as what Spice 1 , aka Dr. Bomb From Da Bay, can do. Amidst a freshly lit mirage of medicinal mary jane vapors, the vernacular vet from the Yay Area sprinkles a little street onto Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," melodically sampling the song with an effortless acapella to a beat that's probably been indented in his head permanently for the past twenty years. And it's sick. I'ma put it out there. Spice 1's still got it. Flat out obvious. [...]

What's good BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast Family! I definitely have to give props to my folk St. James of Stop Beefin' Start Eatin' Radio & TV for hitting us up with this video of this exclusive interview with one of the West Coast's Hip-Hop pioneers and legends Spice 1. Spice 1 covers a lot in this interview, including everything from his father being a Black Panther and how it affected his overall musical output throughout the years, his time with Tupac Shakur, what exactly was meant when he went [...]
