Dead Meadow's blissful, psychedelic stoner rock was a great way to follow Spindrift. Original drummer Mark Laughlin returned to the band last year and the Dead Meadow is currently working on their next studio disc, which is a follow-up to 2008's Old Growth . The band's set ran about an hour and here is my best guess at a set list: 01 Intro > I Love You Too 02 What Needs Must Be 03 Till Kingdom Come 04 1000 Dreams (??) [...]

I've long had an issue with the Bottleneck, mostly because there was a time when the bartenders were rude and the place stank. Literally — around the time smoking was banned, the Bottleneck was one of the few venues that just couldn't get the funk out (hey there, Buzzard Beach!).… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

Los Angeles psychedelic rockers Spindrift have never shied away from proclaiming their love of cinema, particularly spaghetti westerns, noir, exploitation, and other cult genres. For their next album, the band chose to work with several different filmmakers, creating soundtracks to a series of short films. The result was Classic Soundtracks Vol. 1 . [...]

Spindrift is redefining what is means to create an album experience. Over the past few months, the LA outfit has been working with various talented directors to come up with short film movie homages to accompany the music to their recently released Classic Soundtracks Vol. 1. Their most recent addition to the growing collection is a collaboration with directors Jean Balest and Sam Barnett, on "Theme from Ghost Patrol", to create a throwback clip to the glory days of B-movie horror. Recreating scenes from Ed Wood's quasi-legendary films, Glen or Glenda and Orgy of the Dead, Spindrift and Balest [...]

[Birthday shout-out today to Tommy Keene — now, for tonight ...] Top stops on a Thursday: ► Seems like forever ago that Ida Maria built a "Fortress Round My Heart."
