Over the past year or so, Stephen Malkmus and his Jicks, Mark Ibold and his Sonic Youth, and Bob Nastanovich and his IKEA have been getting more column space, but Scott Kannberg, aka Pavement co-founder Spiral Stairs, is back and ready for some of his own. He's released a couple albums as Preston School Of Industry, but takes full credit for The Real Feel , making it something of a solo debut. Of course, "solo" rarely means "solo," so Kannberg was joined by Australian rock band Gersey (Spiral spent a bit of time in Melbourne before returning [...]

Spiral Stairs - "Maltese Terrier" Matador will be releasing the new album from Pavement co-founder Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs, on 10/20. The Real Feel apparently " has a vibe similar to classic 70's albums by Fleetwood Mac ('Then Play On'), Captain Beefhart ('Safe As Milk'), and guitar god Richard Thompson, not to mention Aussie psych rock icons Died Pretty ."

Ex-Pavement co-conspirator, Spiral Stairs ,has been mum as of late. The last PSOI album didn't grow on me like I had hoped it would, but here's to hoping Scott's solo project takes off. Matador will release the forthcoming solo effort titled, The Real Feel (Oct 20th) and has some a slew of contributors, like Kevin Drew and Ian Moore to name a couple (salivating). [ download ] Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs , already possesses a musical curriculum vitae most would kill for. As a co-founder of Pavement , Kannberg is responsible for help shaping one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. Afterwards, he put out two records under the Preston School of Industry moniker which, while never attaining the level of genius of those Pavement records, were both excellent collections of indie rock. On October 20th, Kannberg will release his first album under his long-adopted alias of Spiral Stairs. [...]
As a member of Pavement Scott Kannberg (a.k.a. Spiral Stairs) was a force within one of the biggest bands of the 1990's slacker indie rock movement. After the break-up of Pavement, Spiral Stairs released some fantastic material with his new group Preston School Of Industry. But for several years now I've heard little or nothing from Stairs or PSOI. So this week's question is: whatever happened
afternoon... we've, or at least i've, heard this all before. apparently scott "spiral stairs" kannberg is sick of sitting around the house and mentioned in a recent interview in loud and quiet that this summer maybe a grand time for the gents of pavement to reunite - seeing as it is their 20th anniversary and all. as i stated previously, this isnt the first time, and probably not the last, that rumours of pavement reunion have left us all a wee bit blue balled. here is a lovely jesse malin, who in my opinion is one [...]

It all started with Slanted And Enchanted . Someone at either Matador or the Pavement camp decided that it would be a swell idea to re-release the legendary first album by everyone's favorite 1990's slacker heroes as a deluxe two-disc CD set. So besides the usual album remastering (yawn) the consumer received b-sides, EP tracks, live cuts and even some unaccounted for "lost" gems. Selling for well under twenty bucks at most retailers, Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe and Reduxe was a deluxe edition done right. The main selling point of this album was, literally, it's [...]
