Spirit Spine is the home-recorded journey through the outsider sounds of psychedelia, kraut rock, ambient music, minimalism, and dream pop. The sounds on "Ocean of Sand" sort of remind me of Parts & Labor's previous album Receivers , but this project's influences run much deeper than that-just look at them listed on bandcamp . And though the sounds on this LP may jump around a bit, the storyline is pretty consistent. The only member of Spirit Spine explains via e-mail: "The album was conceived [...]

Will Smith ei valeta - see on tõesti värske. Indiana Ülikooli rebane Joseph Denney ehk Spirit Spine neid värskeid helisid tekitab ja debüütalbum on Bandcampis kuulatav ja ostetav. Spirit Spine - Ocean of Sand ( mp3 )

This is perhaps one of the more intriguing albums that has arrived in my inbox recently. It's from Indiana University junior Joseph Denney who goes by the name Spirit Spine . His album is entitled Glossolalia which, despite being pretty close to one, is actually not the name of a song by Sigur Ros (Although Glosoli is a pretty kick ass tune in its own right, if I do say so myself). The album itself (from the couple of tunes I made it through thus far) is lots of lo-fi rockin goodness [...]

Spirit Spine // GLOSSOLALIA GLOSSOLALIA is quite a labor of love for Spirit Spine . This hulking piece of work is a concept album about a man helplessly lost in the desert. His plight there forces him to wrestle with existential questions ultimately leading him to question the very existence of God. Those are some heavy issues to cover over the span of an album. Even without the backstory though, this album is a pretty great piece of artwork. His painstaking buildup [...]

Indiana native Spirit Spine recently unveiled his new concept album Glossolalia , which he dedicates to, "famed skeptic and magician James Randi." Over nine tracks of hypnotic drum beats and rising layers of guitar ambience unfolds a Jodorowski-like story of a priest crash-landed in the desert. Fittingly so, this set of jams is devoid of the tropicalism from previous efforts. The album sounds more appropriate for morning prayer than an after dinner spliff, with big cathedral textures result from chanting voice and dry walls of sound colliding. Take the desolate space of Amen [...]
I'm still coming back to reality after last night's show. Though the music I'm listening to right now isn't helping - rather its keeping me on the other side -... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Indiana-based shadowfighter and mountain slapper Spirit Spine is back with a new album. You might remember him as the kid who took the most literal influence from Panda Bear for his earlier recordings (and that's putting it lightly)... but now in round two it seems he's beginning to find a sound of his own. [MP3] Spirit Spine - Ocean of Sand I'm a fan of slow-building Krautrock and "Ocean of Sand" does it well, subtly growing in expanse and volume until Joseph Denney's vocals explode [...]

" Glossolalia follows the story of a preacher traveling by airplane who crashes into the desert, leaving him the only survivor. As a result, the preacher must wander the desert in search of food, water, and civilization. Along the way he questions the religion that brought him there and the God who may, or may not, exist" reads the description of the album by Spirit Spine . And as the description suggests, there is something very deeply spiritual about the album Glossolalia , filled with distant voices [...]
Child hood nostalgia haunts me daily. Spirit Spine is Indiana-native Joseph Denney. His third album on Lovegiraffe Records, Glossolalia tries to replicate just that. As stated in his press release, Gloassolalia means "the religious practice of speaking in tongues." That couldn't be more dead on. The album is filled with nostalgic echo's like in "Mission Bells" where [...]

img: David C. Cray stream // Spirit Spine - Ocean of Sand This builds and builds into something momentous, something so bold and new that by its climax you feel disorientated; your eyes looking in separate directons, your head throbbing like a speaker that's about to blow. Spirit Spine, when we last talked about him, had his work compared to 'Person Pitch'. 'Ocean of Sand' won't escape similar comparisons but if you ask me, this is indicative of something far more substantial and exciting than 'Tomboy'… [JM] [...]

Seems right that what follows Faust's devastating newbie is from a young gun who travels by the name of Spirit Spine. Joseph Denney runs the show and he's been making quite stirrings of admiration for the last couple of years. His new album, titled 'Glossolalia', has a central theme of a crash landing in a desert and the attempts of our hero survivor to escape the unforgiving wilderness. Not surprising then that Denney has dubbed the music sandgaze, but from what I've heard it sounds bigger than any genre that has the word gaze in it. Spirit Spine has done [...]
