Our three favourite artists all one track...fuck yes!
Our good friend afrofuturist producer/dj/vocalist Spoek Mathambo rocks out at The Boiler Room in London with this smasher of a set for Diesel+Edun present: Studio Africa.

Spoek Mathambo  - "Let Them Talk"  [free download] from Father Creeper out 12 March on Sub Pop The South African artist is a modern-day Wilson Pickett who manipulates technology, while gleefully crossing genres. There is something in here for everyone; it's such an explosive song. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Let the Day Begin" [free download] (The Call cover) from Specter at the Feast [...]

Ever wonder what happens beyond the stage? Well we do. These roadies, managers, guitar techs, lighting directors, A&R, and even positions you may not have known about make the music you love come alive! We had the opportunity of speaking with Stephen Budd to see how he manages to be good at so many things behind the scenes of our favourite bands! AMBY: How did you first get into your industry? SB: I started as a roadie when I was 15, it was the first ever Motorhead gig [...]

Además de buenas rolas de Spoek Mathambo, Esben and the Witch y Clinic.

Africa Express By Matt Jones Africa Express is not your average gig. Originally formed as Damon Albarn’s angry reaction to the lack of African artists in the 2005 ‘Live 8’ concerts, it is an almost innumerable collective of African and Western musicians, currently touring the country via its own rail service. Stepping aboard at Cardiff University Students’ Union Solus Bar, it immediately seems as chaotically fun as it sounds. Although the £15 tickets have not sold out, with most of those [...]

So Spoek Mathambo has been going through some of his old tracks and put a few up on Soundcloud for free. Not only is it a nice nostalgia trip, but it also highlights work by two of the countries best producers. His collaboration with Markus Wormstorm resulted in the game-changing Sweat.X, while Richard the Third would produce in the Mshini Wam era. One of the weirdest sex songs ever. This was the first song that I did with Richard The Third, back in 2009....a creative relationship which birthed my first album and bangers like Mshini Wam, [...]
The death, rebirth, and re-death of hip hop music is a continuing cycle that has been foretold, discussed, and beaten into the ground so often that it seems to be a career staple for any artist that will willingly embrace the label. The genre itself seems to be in a constant struggle to maintain relevance [...]

First things first: for those who haven't noticed, we've added a calendar feature in the tabs above. If you live in Los Angeles and are looking for recommended live music, well, I'm sure you can figure out how use a calendar. Second things second: we're doing ticket giveaways for two shows coming up this week at the Echoplex. The first is Spoek Mathambo, a gifted inscrutable South African musician who records for Sub Pop. I've written about him at length here . The openers, Gothic Tropic, are worth showing up early for. They're similarly unclassifiable [...]
I bought the Spoek Mathambo album Father Creeper today. It's a great listen. Don't get me wrong, it's all over the place and a bit of a mess - but in a good way. It's also unlike anything I've ever heard before, mixing up elements of afrobeat, hip-hop, dancehall and funk and creating a wild and heady mix of melody and abrasiveness as it bounces along. For those who've yet to hear Spoek Mathambo , here's one of the best tunes off Father Creeper [...]
