One of my personal most anticipated release of the upcoming new year is definitely Spoon 's " Transference ". We've talked a bit about the new Spoon record in the past, more exactly about the few Transference tracks that have already been played live on the band's last tour. It now seems people will get the chance to have a first hand account of the new Spoon sooner than one may think, as in the following months the band will be touring through out the U.S. and Europe in support of Transference, which, by the way, will [...]

Photo: Autumn DeWilde Have you seen Spoon live? They're crisp, like say, a delicious pastry. They are absolutely not one of those bands who anyone could ever accuse of "studio magic" because their sets beautifully recreate these little jams they have come close to perfecting over the last decade of making indie rock. Well, they're doing it all over again with Transference this January 26, and surrounding that release date with some live shows. One date is even with Jay Reatard, which is sort of like an experiment on what happens when organized sound [...]
Here is day three of my favorite albums of the aughts. There's a lot of good stuff here (in my opinion). I hope you are taking advantage of the full album streams via LaLa.com . I will continue with the posts next Monday. I hope you enjoy. View 50-41 After the Jump… 50: Kings of Convenience - Riot on an Empty Street (2004) [...]
Welcome to day two of my favorite albums of the aughts. I should remind everyone that these are MY favorite albums of the past decade, which coincidentally means they might not be the same as yours. Compiling this list was an arduous task and honestly it could be different every single day depending on my mood. It just so happens that this is the final product of months of work and is what goes out on the internets for everyone to see. Anyways I hope you enjoy and maybe even stumble upon something you haven't heard in awhile. [...]

Spoon | "The Underdog" | 2007 Perhaps it isn't surprising - or, isn't supposed to be - that the most fun song Spoon released this decade features uplifting Motown-esque horns. The lyrics, too, are notably upbeat with a concise message of not giving up, laying down in the face of difficulty or, most importantly, being (or becoming) social garnish. The song's lyrics are quotable ad infinitum, whether he's describing what perfection is to most people ("it can't all be wedding cake" and "it may not be photo op") or the desire to remove one's self from "the middle" [...]
Texas' very own Spoon have announced a trio of UK shows for February 2010. Tickets are on sale now, priced between £15 and £16.50 each. Sunday 14th February 2010 - Glasgow King Tuts Monday 15th February 2010 - Manchester Academy 3 Tuesday 16th February 2010 - London Electric Ballroom
Before CSI, there was Quincy, M.E. Up until now, I've never understood Spoon 's reason behind the naming of "Quincy Punk Episode", a great song which appears on the very underrated Series of Sneaks LP. Today I came across an article railing on the old TV show Quincy, M.E. and it's portrayal of punk in its infamous episode "Next Stop Nowhere." For those of you like me who are unfamiliar with the show, it's not too surprising. Originally aired in the mid '70s [...]

Anya Marina is kinda hot and has an awesome voice. So naturally, she has fit my criteria to blog about her music on BTA. I literally came across this girl today while doing my daily scout of the interweb looking for new tunes. Now I haven't seen Twilight and don't really intend on watching movies about some lonely emo girl that shags vampires or whatever, but she must be on the soundtrack as one of her videos is the whole 'the artist is in the random movie setting / scene but not' deal. What caught my attention though was [...]

"Brewing" is a new recurring feature to let you know what's ahead in new music releases. We've had some information filter out recently about new albums due out in early 2010. It's shaping up to be a good start to the new year. Let's begin with the sophomore album from Vampire Weekend , which features the new single [...]
Brooklyn-based six-piece White Rabbits released its sophomore effort, It's Frightening , earlier this year with the help of Spoon's Britt Daniel who covered production duties for the album. Drummer Matthew Clark recently took some time to answer a few questions about the new album, the band's new label, and what led the band to work with Daniel.
Spoon will be releasing their new album next year and have announced some European tour dates for when they stop overseas after the release of the album. The band recently saw that a track from the new album 'The Mystery Zone' leak into the internet. The seventh album,... Click the link to read more

Spoon have line-up a few dates for a forthcoming tour of the U.K. kicking off next year. The short jaunt will be in support of the band's upcoming seventh album release, ' Transference ', due out January 26. The band will kick off their tour on February 14 in Glasgow and will play dates in Manchester and London. Spoon Dates: Glasgow King Tuts (February 14) Manchester Academy 3 (15) [...]

Best Albums of 00 | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09 2007 might just be my favorite year for music releases this decade. Unfortunately, many, many great albums were left out of this list. It was pretty hard leave them out, but I couldn't press the little blue "Publish" button without any of the following albums on the list: [...]
Feist - I Feel It All (Spoon Mix) She made a guest appearance at Kings Of Convenience's NYC gig. Feist did well on this year's Modern Rock 500. MP3: Feist - I Feel It All (Spoon Mix)
In thinking about the end of this year coming up in a month or so, I decided to go through my music collection. I came across the "Dark Was the Night" CD, which features a lot of artists teaming up. These include: Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, The Books featuring Jose Gonzalez, Cat Power [...]

More tour dates Spoon has announced multiple dates, including some European shows in February. Of note, Spoon will be playing in Britt's hometown of Portland, OR this December 11. If you're in the Pacific Northwest area, this would be a great time to catch many of the new jams from the band's upcoming seventh LP Transference , which won't be released until January 26, 2010. Also, they'll be accompanied by Black Joe Lewis , which means you'll get to hear all the songs [...]

The third installment of A Retrospective, this time the focus is on 2002. The year of rebuilding, so to speak. It was the year I discovered Cider Jack (and did so plentifully) at the local Pullman bar Rico's, and we all would rehearse Bill Brasky skits (from the SNL spots, and made up on the spot) as twenty feet away the university jazz combo performed excellent renditions of Van Morrison's "Moondance" and various Motown favorites. As we see every year, 2002 saw several real great releases. Here are my favorites. [...]
