Hailing from the small university town of Ann Arbor, Jonathan Visger's solo project Absofacto produces a delightful sound that reconstitutes the ghosts of indie rock's past into something vaguely infectious. If one were a lazy music critic and decided to use that "if (blank), (blank), and (blank) were put in a blender/sat next to each [...]

It's remarkable when a band or artist sticks around creating new music for more than 15 years. The hard work involved in doing that under the auspices of mainstream or indie labels is something that should be recognized and applauded. It's all more impressive still when a band or artist's excellence is underrated- or virtually unrecognized by the critical and/or listener mainstream. The most impressive? The band/artist doesn't get frustrated, doesn't complain. It soldiers on, not giving one fuck, just doing its thing, even as the music it influences gets more recognition. This new edition of [...]

New Bonus Track from Spoon Keeping to their promise, Spoon continues to release demo versions of very early songs that were rediscovered during Britt Daniel's recent move. I like to think it was found under a couch cushion, but he apparently stumbled upon an old cassette tape (see above if you're not familiar with this technology) that was made in the pre- Sneaks years. October's demo version of A Series of Sneaks ' "Advance Cassette". For the full list [...]

Me [...]

Japanese genre defying trio Boris, are set to release their 15th record, New Album, world wide on November 25th. We have an intriguing new track off said album called Spoon. Listen to it. Boris; Spoon
Hailing from Chicago, Santah put catchy, no-frills alternative rock back on the main stage. The five-piece fuse the ambition of all members into a cohesive and successful album, White Noise Bed – a group courtesy of GroopEase, who recently offered their full-length for $3 – a $6 discount. Fans of The Walkmen, The Veils, and [...]

Japanese style-shifters Boris conjure up their more gauzy pop sensibility with "Spoon," a cut from their fifteenth album called, here we go, New Album . Kind of hard to Google. The ever-prolific outfit has already released an album this year, so be sure to check out " Hope " from that release. Read More...
Please bear with me as I try to make a ridiculously useless metaphor: If the world of indie music were a shanty town like the Hooversvilles of the Great Depression, and Beverly Hills was were bands like The Shins and Spoon lived, Lord Huron would be an extremely frugal group of hoboes that quickly made their way up two rungs of the socioeconomic ladder to a nice studio apartment a few towns away

Filed under: Exclusive Joan Clark Let's just say it: Wild Flag is more than an indie-rock supergroup. It's a dream come true. That's how singer and guitarist Mary Timony describes it, anyway. "It sounds cheesy," Timony tells Spinner with a laugh. "If I could have imagined who ideally I wanted to play with, it's those three people." She's referring to Carrie Brownstein and [...]

It's been a little while since we've heard from Spoon, but that doesn't mean we've forgotten about them. The other day I decided to visit their website and noticed that they had posted a demo for download. Not ones to be afraid to share their creative process with fans, posting monthly demos to the Spoon website had been an ongoing tradition for the band which stopped last February (potentially because they had run out of demos to share). Nonetheless, they are back to it after Britt unearthed some old demo tapes in the process of a recent move. They've promised [...]

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars At this point in time, there probably aren't too many people familiar with the Portland outfit, Light for Fire . Honestly, that's probably the biggest tragedy we'll come across, as their self-titled debut is chocked full of brilliant pop moments, fusing moments of great indie-pop with arrangements created by a singer-songwriter format. It's just flat out golden. You're going to struggle to find as good a one-two punch as the opening tracks on Light for Fire [...]

You might remember a piece about folk artists Shiny and the Spoon we ran in April of last year. With more than a year having passed and a new autumn season upon us I am excited to once again have the opportunity to write about the duo's latest album Ferris Wheel . The two singers/songwriters, also called Amber and Jordan, have with this newest work achieved a fuller sound through the use of more instruments, a variance in vocal ranges and patterns, and a [...]

Ever since we featured the Westone 3 earbuds awhile back on the site, I frequently receive comments noting that although the Westone 32s sound like a great set of earbuds, they also carry a high price tag to accompany their high quality. Understandably, many readers aren't interested in purchasing earbuds at that price point. But good headphones can be hard to find and the market is simply flooded with crappy earbuds that aren't worth the packaging they are shipped in. In that regard, I'm more than happy to recommend the Thinksound ts02 earbuds which the company [...]
![[mp3] Spoon - "Utilitarian" (demo) August Bonus Track](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3690962_lg.jpg)
Spoon rolls out another bonus track Fans of Spoon have been spoiled over the last few years by the generosity of Britt Daniel and company with their sharing of free, unreleased tracks. You're probably well-aware by now that nearly every month, the band's website has released a " bonus track " - usually a demo or live version of an existing Spoon song. After February of this year, though, there's been nothing but radio silence. That is, until late this August, a collection of cassettes (yeah, [...]

You've probably noticed that we like vinyl records in our home. For example, at the end of many of my posts, I gently nudge our readers towards Insound to buy our featured albums on vinyl instead of digitally from iTunes. Beyond that, we did name our site Turntable Kitchen. Friends who haven't started collecting records yet, but who are interested, always ask me two questions: 1) Why should I buy a record player / start collecting records, and 2) Which record player should I buy? I'm going to do my best to address both [...]
