Melancholic songwriting about love gone wrong is a dime a dozen. Quality is in short supply when everyone and their kid sister is uploading a sappy ballad onto YouTube. That's why Spring Breakup is worth a million damn dollars. Earlier this year the duo quietly (practically silently) put out their sophomore album. You'll recall their debut got me pretty excited . Mathais Kom is one of the most brilliant songwriters in Canada, his wit and dour world view complement each other perfectly. Kim Barlow is a delightful foil, all precious and precocious and every bit as subtly [...]

![[Listen/Download] Spring Breakup- It's Not Me, It's You](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3192471_lg.jpg)
by teepoo OMG A BAND FROM THE YUKON. Now I just need one from the North West Territories and Nunavut and I'll have covered all of Canada in my Featured Canadian Artists list. If you do know a great band or artist from these areas do let me know. Like the name of the band sounds, Spring Breakups's songs display a pessimistic view of relationships in a folk tone with ukuleles and banjos. It's one of those albums you put on when you're mad at your [...]

Spring Breakup is the odd musical coupling of Yukon songwriter Kim Barlow and Newfoundlander Mathias Kom of The Burning Hell. Barlow and Kom's ukulele and banjo songs overflow with imagination, bouncing back and forth between misery and merriment, as evidenced on "It's Not Me, It's You" from their sophomore LP It's Not You, It's Me (released on February 1 on Label Fantastic!). If you're a cynical old kook like me, then you're going to get a lot of mileage out of Spring Breakup's pessimistic view of love and relationships. [...]

We've been hit with winter these last few weeks. In fact, I have seen more snow fall on top of snow fall in January than ever before in PA. It's rare for the snow NOT to melt between snow storms. Anyhoo, there is this new band straight outta the snowy, Great White North called Spring Breakup (great band name by the way). Kim Barlow and Mathias Kom craft some "pretty little ukulele and banjo songs about the inevitable end of love." I like that there is humor in their music. The album – It's Not You, It's Me – comes [...]
