we were very excited to have our album reviewed by popmatters this week. They seemed to have liked it about as much as they liked the new dokken album , which puts us in excellent company i'd say. i took some time out to go see our pals from aldenbarton play at the delancey. b+p is also looking forward to hitting the up the mercury lounge debut of square wave punch on july 22. it'll be tremendous! meanwhile, we're hitting the studio this weekend to track our [...]

Monday: The Twilight Sad @ The Knitting Factory 8pm $12 During SXSW people began buzzing about The Twilight Sound and their dark brand of indie rock. Featuring one of the best broughs in all of music, the songs from this Scotish band are dark and gloomy, but entirely catchy and addictive. Check them out now before they do the usual indie band explosion we've become accustom to. The Twilight Sad - "I'm Taking the Train Home" Tuesday: Land of Talk & The Muggabears @ Union Hall 8pm $10 [...]
Hi. My name is Rachael. I am officially the worst packer ever. I'm sitting in my now naked apartment, surrounded by boxes that are sorta taped together, and cringing over the pile of garbage bags that had to be used when I ran out of boxes. There's still cds lying all over the place, as I am too scared to pack them away in case they crack, and Back To The Future Part II is on my TV, which will be the last thing (after my computer) that will leave this place. Last night [...]
Sean from SWP had the coolness to email me their EP (and give permission for it to go up). This is good--much better than trying to form an impression of a band from just one track. Given the number of hits that entry's been getting, it seems there's some interest, so here it is, along with some notes. ( The Underrated Blog is a big fan o'theirs, and some live pictures of them on a Flickr set --is that a tinsel backdrop?) Given more material, my impression gets better; I think they're still [...]
The problem with keeping up with all of the good music blogs out there is that it produces way too much music to be absorbed, or even tried (is this my theme for the week--too much music?). Some things that the blogosphere adores I never try, like Asobi Seksu's new CD "Citrus," which everyone I read loves , or only try a month later, like Ladyhawk . Always makes me wonder what the actual elements are that get me to listen to something. I still don't know what [...]

This weekend is shaping up to be quite the concert craziness. Today I'll be seeing an exclusive acoustic performance by my favorite Brits Editors before heading over to Mercury for Midlake , Cold War Kids , and Sound Team . Sunday, I will be hitting up the free show at McCarren Pool for the first time. Oh, but what’s on Saturday, you ask? Good question. I receive very few compliments that I actually take to heart. Let's face it, most compliments these days come with [...]
