You know Squarepusher , right? His name's Tom Jenkinson and his tracks are the kind of acid-infused Drum and Bass that turns up in the early hours, after twelve pints and three tequilas, for the sole purpose of reminding you that there's a diminutive, greasy part of the dance floor you haven't pulled shapes on yet. Those same breakneck beats that are still mauling the inside of your head with a pickaxe when you try to shake that excruciating hangover the next morning. That's him, right? I thought so, too. So much so that (being the kind [...]

Fuck. This isn't coming together today. I need some coffee and a boat paddle to the back of the head to wake me up. First up, this Santigold song is retarded. I've always kept my distance from said Santigold, because many many many many of these artists are good for a song or two of a particular moment but never develop into much of anything, plus... when everyone jocks I ride the pine, ya feel me? Fingerbanger 1 : Santigold - Lights Out (DJ Mehdi Remix) (don lowed) -- [...]

Despite the niche market of drum and bass, experimentalist Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher tends to act outside the fold. In his 2007 live performance he approached the crowd armed with nothing but an electric bass and an amplifier (see below). While by itself this forward idea preaches far beyond the obscurity of Maximum Priest EP or the well-known atmospheres of Go Plastic , Squarepusher intends to take it a step further. On August 17, Warp Records will dispense a live recording of the aforementioned French performance, appropriately titled Solo Electric [...]

If ever there was an architypal Ninja Tune artist it would be Funki Porcini. He has never troubled the mainstream but goes his own way making oddball electronica. Funki Porcini is James Bradell. He has been releasing stuff on Ninja tune since 1995. His bio says: "Funki Porcini's music is the fruit of a well-travelled life. Porcini left England at 19 to escape from a squat in Kings Cross being savaged by violent Scots stranded in London after a football [...]

Iconic record label Warp is turning 20 and is inviting you to put together the ultimate compilation album. Few labels have had a more profound impact on the face of electronic music or a continuous output of such momentous quality. Summing it all up is an impossible task and probably why they need your help. The upcoming compilation will include the fan favorite tracks as well as the comments left on the website. Warp will also stage a few anniversary events to celebrate. Looks like I need to plan one more holiday trip this year! Some [...]
Can anyone tell me what these three songs have in common? I guess I should have posted this six years ago, but better late than never right? Plus that Frank Black song is so underrated and amazing that it deserves some further attention. Frank Black - Los Angeles Interpol - Obstacle 1 Squarepusher - Love Will Tear Us Apart

I was raised on Warp . During my very first job at a hole in the wall lawn & garden shop my boss used to put on the Richard D James Album whenever it was a slow day (i.e. every day except Arbor Day). But all my nostalgia aside, there is no other label that has promoted more discussion, mystique, or innovation to the world of electronic music than these guys right here, and after going 20 years strong, it's time to fucking celebrate. Here's how they're rolling it out. Right now, instead of reading [...]

It's time again for my Weekly World Wnews roundup. Why Saturdays? Well, nobody ever comes here on Saturdays, so why should I waste a good post on a tiny audience? Why, that'd be like wasting your dick on a drunken fat chick instead of going home to Internet porn! • Not only does Kid Rock get to have his own line of beer (with nine new Kid Rock-brand brews forthcoming), the state of Michigan has awarded tax credits to the Michigan Brewing Company so they can continue brewing his beers. Many other brewery in the state have not [...]

What the fuck is happening to Ireland? Just as we are trying to adjust to the stinking death rattle of our poisoned economy, some utter loons start spraying bullets around the North like it's 1992. Are we in a space/time vortex? If I open my wardrobe will it be full of black Nirvana T Shirts artfully splattered with domestos? Is the statue of Mary outside the Credit Union about to up sticks and march around the town handing out butter vouchers? The mind boggles. Helloo Helloo. It's good to be [...]
