It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just a few of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. You can stream all the songs in this mix using the Yahoo media player at the bottom of the page OR if you are browsing with Chrome you can play (and scrobble ) the whole page using the ex.fm extension OR [...]
Scott Tennent is the talented blogger behind Pretty Goes With Pretty as well as the author of Spiderland , one of the newest entries in the esteemed 33 1/3 series published by Continuum Books . I met Scott last month at a release party for the book here in Los Angeles, and I made him promise that he would let me interview him about his experience writing Spiderland , his first visit to Louisville, and - of course - all things Slint. On Tuesday night he and I chatted (online!) for [...]

The first chapter of my book on Spiderland deals with the primordial period in Slint's history, discussing the obvious touchstone of Squirrel Bait (who Dave Grohl just singled out in a list of great 80s hardcore songs for Rolling Stone), but also the less renowned pre-Slint bands the Languid and Flaccid, Solution Unknown, and Maurice. Since the book doesn't contain any images or (duh) audio, consider this a supplement to that first chapter. The original pre-Slint band was the Languid and Flaccid, formed by classmates Britt Walford and Brian McMahan when they were in [...]

While we´re waiting in nervous anticipation for the World Cup final, let´s play some more music why don´t we. The iPod shuffle picked six winners once again this Wild Weekend , touching base in Christchurch, Russia by way of Kingston, and Washington DC amongst others. Drop that bomb. Guided By Voices always had a knack for intriguing song- and album titles of course, but you´ll probably agree that King Shit And The Golden Boys can hardly be bettered. And the music that slab of wax contains isn´t half bad [...]

Hey kats and kittenz, my band is playing in Satan's own arsehole tommorow (aka Brooklyn, NY USA). Yep, the mighty Caterwaul Of Sound will be doing what we do best... drinking; oh yeah... and playing GONZO GARAGE RAWK. With an open bar for the hour preceding us going on stage!!!!!! That is the recipe for trouble. As is Missus Nomad accompanying me and apparently some ex girlfriends from my college years might be in attendence. Hmmm... women, alcohol and emotions - THAT'S a recipe for trouble! Or Rock n Roll! And, as [...]
![[Photos + Video] The For Carnation – Art After Dark @ The Speed Museum, Louisville – 10.23.09](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2076888_lg.jpg)
Though it should've been obvious, it didn't dawn on me that a live performance by Slint/Tortoise/Crain/Shipping News rowdy crowd The For Carnation at a forward-thinking art celebration (The Speed Museum's Art After Dark) wouldn't exactly be a traditional band-plays-in-front-of-you type of gig. No dice on that. While it was odd at first, you realized shortly into the set how original and exciting such an unusual show is to experience. It's what Pink Floyd tried to do with their theatrical five city tour for The Wall , except it wasn't stupid. Regardless of how you felt about its [...]
Saturday night's lineup at Buster's had things flipped around a little bit, in my humble opinion. The highlight of my night was the first act which was Louisville's (formerly) very own Papa M . For those not aware of the significance or depth of Papa M's career, then allow me to lay it out real quick. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s the music scene in Louisville was one of the most progressive, important, and underrated scenes in recent music history. You might not be aware of how much of the music [...]

:: You could say that Ernesto Priego is another old media guy just grinding his axe, since he argues that the old guard still has real power in the music industry . But giving him that label is wrong. Remember, the people willing/able to spend disposable income - you know, the squares - still listen to traditional media. While the tide certainly is turning, it hasn't turned yet. :: I knew that plenty of pro wrestling buffs also double as Nine Inch Nails fanboys, but this wannabe WWE shot from the Terminal 5 [...]
by chuck bell Over the past few years, it seems that every band that should have been huge in the late 80's/early 90's has regrouped to cash in on their fame, which in most cases is at a much higher level today than it was 15-20 years ago. The Pixies, the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Jesus Lizard, My Bloody Valentine... the list goes on and on. However, among these seminal bands that have temporarily reformed in the new millennium, there is one that still does not get [...]
In the mid 80s, when I was knee deep into Husker Du and Replacements, these guys Squirrel Bait came out of Kentucky, and I immediately picked up this LP and this is the track that rock a few friends and I pretty hard back then - Hammering So Hard, from Squirrel Bait. From another YouTube clip comes this info: "Squirrel Bait was a pop punk band that came out of nowhere in 1983 from of all places, Louisville, Kentucky. At first, the Squirrel Bait record released in 1985 by small indie label [...]

"I got a six pack and nothing to do... I got a six pack and I don't need you" Back when I was young and stupid I thought that only punk bands put out demos. I thought artists like U2 just went into the studio and recorded "I Will Follow". I was wrong, but I loved picking up the cassette demos at Venus Records, Bleecker Bobs, and Record Stop. BTW, These are demos not beer. Enjoy! Song: Sober Artist: Uniform Choice Album: Demos Comments: I picked this one up over at 7inchpunk.com. Great site for international and US [...]
I tell you, I get no respect. Did you know that there are nerds on the Internet who are, at this very moment- writing about this website negatively!? Apparently my scribes against the "independent" music scene have touched the nerds in a very uncomfortable area. I've always figured that the more negative response I receive the more good I am doing. I think it's funny that I'm being called "retarded" after I called the nerds' heroes retarded! It's a cyclical name-calling match! I live for these Internet flame wars. And now, a mix tape for you. [...]

it's really hard to argue with a band when it has the pedigree of squirrel bait , with half the band going on to form slint and the involvement of david grubbs. this is their second and last album. released by homestead in 1987. the dude abides.

"The first time I got to hear SQUIRREL BAIT was through a friend who had a copy of the Wailing Ultimate compilation, this was many years ago now but I never forgot how much we'd loved 'Sun God'. Their records always seemed impossible to comeby until around ten years back when I picked up Squirrel Bait which saw a reissue through the Drag City sub label Dexter's Cigar. They also repressed Skag Heaven although the "Motorola" / "Clodburst"' seven-inch still remains buried. Anyhow. the lineage of the 'Bait reads like a who's who of indie rock [...]

With nothing planned for MML or the MySpace Listening Room this weekend, the decision was made to feature a few classic favorites from my teenage years. These 3 songs are part of a growing folder I've been keeping on my computer desktop for far too long. They were gathered here and there on various blogs and online music resource-type places over the past year or so. Don't expect much of an in
