Early this year when we heard Sr. Amable and Marian Ruzzi were making music together we couldn't help but to raise some eyebrows. They might share their native place of origin (Chihuahua, Mexico), but they couldn't be more apart when it comes to music taste. On one side we have an all-pop, multi-instrumentalist woman who is part of the band that accompanies Julieta Venegas and, on the other, a seemingly hedonistic guy whose dreams mostly evoke Piyama Party and 107 Faunos. With both artists growing into their craft and senses, we knew they would make an interesting collaboration, but never [...]
After a few years of virtual flirting and informal encounters, Coahuila's rock heroes Piyama Party and Chihuahua's dreamy pop escapist Sr. Amable finally made an official collaboration in "Deporte Extremo Es Salir." While most of the bands making a commentary on Mexico's wave of violence do it in a bleak, almost depressing manner, the bands from the northern region are wittier than their counterparts. It's not that these two acts have accepted the violence and gone on with their lives; they've just reached a different phase of social clarity. A few years ago Sr. Amable captured the odyssey of the [...]

CUU Desde El Espacio, Varios Artistas CUU Desde El Espacio, Mexico Rating: 69 By Carlos Reyes Chihuahua is the largest and most violent state of the Mexico; it's not a big surprise to find out most of its bands process such imagery through the most reddish, psychedelic, and neo-folkloric senses. CUU Desde El Espacio is Chihuahua's most distinguished music collective, also the home of some of Mexico's weirdest and most alienating music. The label is primarily ran by Andres Murilllo, better known by CF readers as Sr. Amable; he has collaborated in [...]

CUU LP, SR. AMABLE Delhotel Records, Mexico Rating: 79 By Jean-Stephane Beriot The project of Andres Murillo gives continuation to the very pleasing EP Senor Amable Was Here , this time he steps away from the charming vowels of "Gary (ewewew)" and amplifies a dazzling line of songs that are anything but charming, seems like he's trying to kill the kid inside him, or even more interesting, somebody else taking that away from him. Mr. Amable finds himself in a country with riveting [...]

It's been a while since we had the idea of compiling a list of our favorite netlabel releases, these albums make up a big chunk of the music we review so we've decided to let the list aside in order to keep the -Best Albums of the Decade- upcoming especial more unexpected. But because we're serious followers of Delhotel Records , the half label half free music storage site, and to applaud their efforts in its first anniversary we decided to go through their catalog to dig deep for what we belief is the cream of the crop, the [...]

There are very few individuals I can fully trust when it comes to music, there's Tim Finney (Pitchfork Media), Chris Cantalini (Gorilla vs Bear), Jean-Stephane Beriot, Andrew Casillas, Julieta Venegas and lately Sr. Amable, whose music blog Noche Pasta is simply terrific. Turns out he's got a music project of his own, Señor Amable Was Here is an enjoyable listen from a guy with a wide musical horizon, some of us write about music to become better consumers, others build up striking promising projects. I had a difficult time trying to decide a track to feature. [...]
