And so the folks at SavePBS.org and The Howlin' Wolf have put together a serious evening of music to help with the cause, this Friday May 27th. On the bill is a who's who of local guys (including John Gros, Ivan Neville, Johnny Vidacovich, Tony Hall and Billy Iuso…), as well as Stoltz's I-12 All-Stars, Porter's Runnin' Pardners… and the kicker, The Funky Meters with Stanton Moore on drums (Russell Batiste is out on tour with Joe Krown and Walter "Wolfman" Washington). All proceeds go towards the group's legal bills and will be a HUGE help for these guys.

The good folks over there at The Boom Boom Room have done it again. 2011′s edition of Boogalooin' at Jazz Fest (in it's 11th year) is a prime example of the collaborative spirit that brings together so many world class musicians, to late night gigs that can only been seen and heard in the haunts of New Orleans. On a wintry Saturday night here in NYC, I was lucky enough to catch the latest version of Garage a Trois at the Bowery Ballroom. The group - which in the past has featured Stanton Moore, Skerik, Mike Dillon and Charlie Hunter – is currently touring with Marco Benevento in place of Hunter, making for a killer combo. Although I thought I'd miss Hunter's patented 8-string guitar work, Marco was certainly a suitable alternative for handling his normal duties.
