Cheers to part two of Post-Club Sundays. I don't post music for you unless I really like it, and these two tracks are no exception. Silver Medallion started with Oren J and MC Carnegie, an East-coast West-coast partnership, that tragically ended with MC Carnegie's death in a horrible car accident. Oren J still releases music under the Silver Medallion tagline and he doesn't disappoint. I've included two of their originals, one a synthy hip-hop track, and the other an absolute club banger, as well as a moombahton rework of 'All I Ask'. Silver Medallion - Gravity [...]

In retrospect, with a name alluding to the famous novella written by one of my favorite authors (John Steinbeck), it was inevitable that I would explore the music of the band Of Monsters and Men. This six-piece indie/folk band is just the latest Icelandic group to emerge from the small, remote island that seemingly produces more internationally-acclaimed musicians than it should, joining the likes of Sigur Rós, Björk, Emiliana Torrini and the last artist I interviewed, Ólöf Arnalds. In 2010, Of Monsters and Men broke onto the Icelandic music scene when they won the nation-wide battle [...]

Not only am I a little surprised to see Wilco tossing a music video out, their first since the late 902s, but the video itself is a pleasant surprise. It's a really fun video that gets the 19302s animated treatment, and actually stars the cast of Popeye. The band gets animated as well, but this video for "Dawned On Me" is all about the cartoon stars of the past. Check it out below. Thanks to COS for the heads up . [...]
Let's have a quick chat about what's currently making my happy. 1. Knowing I get to see The Civil Wars tonight. 2. My fancy new bell-bottom jeans (12.99 thrift store find FTW). 3. Having my boss pay for lunch. 4. Waiting On An Island by Destry. Notes on #4: This sway worthy album is light-hearted [...]

Having already transitioned Broken Social Scene to the big screen with This Movie Is Broken , Canadian director Bruce McDonald is aiming to give another group of Canucks the film treatment. As Exclaim! reports, Mcdonald plans on turning the upcoming album from indie pop group Stars into the basis of a new movie. Currently untitled, the film will follow a similar pattern as This Film Is Broken, with Stars' new LP - apparently entitled Those Days Are Gone - providing the backdrop to a fictional tale. While a Broken Social [...]

Based in the deep and dusty heart of Arizona but with Dubliner Keith Walker and Mexican Ana Barraza at the fore, Sister Cities appositely embody a uniting of nations and with that musical styles and substances. Your Heart, lifted from the veritably strong, emotionally scatty Pockets EP of last November , sees Stars' whimsical eruptions of sentimentality seared on clattering, askew cymbals as Barraza's subtle vocal swells bleed into the ascending strains of a gloriously tumultuous chorus. Twinned with its impeccable production and acutely inspiring instrumental manipulations, it makes for a seething dream of a number. [...]

Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]

"I, the fiery life of divine essence, am aflame beyond the beauty of the meadows, I gleam in the waters, and I burn in the sun, moon and stars." - Hildegard von Bingen Electronic & ambient music seems perfectly suited for stargazing. So you really could use just about any ambient mix for night sky viewing and it will work just fine. But sometimes it's [...]
My sister and brother-in-law are coming down today. I've held their Christmas presents and Christmas goodies for ransom until they visit. Every Christmas my sisters have certain expectations from me. Moe and Rod, in Colorado, expect English toffee. Sheila, who's coming tomorrow, expects her fudge and date-nut bread. She won't be disappointed. Once I knew Sheila was coming, I made both of them. She'll open her presents first then we're going to lunch. Last night was warmer than I expected. When Gracie went out before we went to bed, I decided to follow her and check out the [...]

OK, I know that New Year's resolutions are cheesy. It doesn't help that they are so easy to break either. Like most people, I've broken far more than I've ever kept. Still, I argue that there is never a bad time or bad reason to try to make yourself better - and the start of a new year is as good of an excuse as any to do just that. And as easy as New Year's resolutions are to break, they aren't hopeless. For my part, I've had a few big ones that actually stuck. Many years ago I resolved [...]

Amanda Leigh Smith And we're back. Gotta tell you, folks - actually taking a holiday during the holidays? I could get used to that. But if I stayed off the job, then I couldn't write about Blouse and I kind of want to write about Blouse, considering I was listening to their self-titled debut an awful lot in the weeks leading up to and throughout the holidays. The trio collects their mail in Portland, Oregon but draw their inspiration from the great English art-rock labels of the '80s; their [...]

Along side Grammy award-winning 9th wonder Eric G is 1/7th of the production team Soul Council. 9th owned Jamala records blesses us with Stars and Lights beat tape, a melodic chill journey through minimal spaces and synth effect laces. If I were to ever float past a nebula, in a space pod this is the tape I would choose to bump. <p>&amp;amp;lt;p&a mp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp ;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p& amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&am p;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&a mp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp ;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;a mp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp ;amp;lt;a href=" http://ericg.bandcamp.com/albu m/stars-lights"&amp;am p;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; amp;amp;gt;Stars &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;a mp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp ; Lights by Eric G&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a& amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;am p;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;& amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;am p;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&am p;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;am p;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&am p;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;& amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp; amp;gt;</p>

Tweet vaso link Let me be honest: I forgot that The Pains of Being Pure at Heart even released an album in 2011. That means one of two things: I was too busy to give it a proper listen, or that it wasn't particularly memorable when I did listen to it. Really, it's probably some of both. It's not that I don't enjoy their brand shoegaze indie pop, but more that it doesn't resonate with me over the course of [...]

If it passes the NHLPA vote, then the National Hockey League will undergo a massive transformation in terms of division alignment and playoff structure starting in the 2012-2013 season. From the six division system currently in place in the NHL, the new structure would change to a four conference system, which much more emphasis on [...]

Winter, eat your heart out. Austin's annual South by Southwest music festival has been slowly releasing its list of bands traveling to the Lone Star state this Spring and, yes, Chicago is represented. On tap to play the 2012 edition are sunny pop rockers Gold Motel , dancehall DJ Chrissy Murderbot , acoustic folker Musikanto , lo-fi ambient poppers U.S. Girls , and Chicago - by way of Philadelphia - [...]
Missed in 2011 Savoir Adore may be my biggest miss of 2011. The guy-girl duo have been likened to indie greats Stars and besides the obvious trade off vocals technique they employ the two bands also share another likeness in both being awesome. The NYC indie rock outfit utilize vibrant sounds atop dance floor ready beats [...]
