The Flaming Lips are no strangers to putting their unique psychedelic spin on classic albums, having previously redone Dark Side of the Moon and In the Court of the Crimson King . Now, as The Future Heart reports and publicists and the band's publicist confirms, Wayne Coyne and fwends will be tackling The Stone Roses' 1989 self-titled debut in its entirety (because a chocolate heart filled with music and a new LP just aren't enough). The above Instagram image [...]

If you thought The Flaming Lips releasing an actual album meant their days of placing USB drives within edible anatomy were behind them, you don't know Wayne Coyne. Adding to their catalog of gummy brains , fetuses , and vaginas ("Phrases you only write when reporting on The Flaming Lips" for $500, Alex), Coyne and co. have teamed with Dude, Sweet Chocolate to create some anatomically accurate chocolate hearts. Tucked inside the confectionery cardiac organ is a USB stick with a [...]

Over the years, The Flaming Lips have come to represent a lot of things to a lot of people, from curious alt rock oddities to psychedelic-inspired chamber pop superheroes. But of the many feathers that rightfully fit in the Lips’ musical cap, "cover band" is a curious one. For a band that prides itself on reaching further beyond the realm of sanity than anyone, doing a cover record just seems, I don’t know, kind of beneath them. And yet that's the territory Wayne Coyne and friends seem content to mine as of late; although to their credit, [...]

(Note: The title might seem misleading if you know the album already, but The Oklahoman psych-noise-punk band The Flaming Lips aren't really on this album. Rather, they push the bands responsible for each track to their limit, with Wayne Coyne (lead singer/guitarist) overseeing the entire project. Without The Flaming Lips, this album doesn't happen. They are only featured on "Epitaph", which features every band in the project.) Now that that's out of the way... The album consists of covers from other bands, such as New Fumes , Spaceface , Linear Downfall [...]

Dessa vez, por traz do codinome Future Heart Points , Waine Coyne escolheu regravar um clássico do rock progressivo, o álbum de estreia de King Crimson , In the Court of the Crimson [...]

Earlier this year, The Flaming Lips teamed up with Bon Iver, Chris Martin, Nick Cave, and more for The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends collaborative album. Now, as Future Heart points , Wayne Coyne and co. are back with another effort featuring a number of other musicians, this in the form of a complete reworking of King Crimson's 1969 debut LP In the Court of the Crimson King . The Flaming Lips' version is titled Playing Hide and Seek with the Ghosts of Dawn and features contributions from [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Holy Hell , Music Appreciation Facebook The Flaming Lips are awesome. We can all pretty much agree on that, right? Doing things like playing Spinner AOL's big free NXNE street party on June 16 might be enough to prove this point, but it just so happens there's so, so much more. Nearly 30 years into the game [...]

Don't forget about the Epic Ruins/Stardeath and White Dwarfs show we're co-presenting tonight with Overtone Booking over at the Where House in Fort Worth. What more can we say, really, to convince you to head out tonight? We've done much raving recently about how much we've grown to love the venue, as well as our growing fondness for the city of Fort Worth and its up-and-coming music scene, and if you haven't been fortunate enough do have caught one of Stardeath's hypnotic live performances we can think of nary a more perfect spot in the Metroplex to take one in. [...]

I think we've gone on record plenty of times this year proclaiming Ft Worth as the Metroplex city kicking the most ass musically this year . And a huge part of that can be credited to the scene being built around the Where House --one of the city's newest and hippest spots. From the laid-back atmosphere, spacious back patio areas, loads of local artwork, or its semi-DIY feel there are few places we would rather see a show in the Town of the Cow as of late, or really anywhere in DFWd for that matter. You can [...]

Wall of Sound opens tonight (6pm - 9pm) at Shades of Brown Coffee & Art, 3302 S. Peoria Avenue, in Tulsa. The exhibit features photographs by Jeremy Charles . "I care deeply about Tulsa's music scene, and soon after I picked up the camera I realized - this was how I could make a contribution. By continuing the tradition of local music photography legends Basil Childers and Kelly Kerr I could help Oklahoma musicians by giving them a visual identity. Growing up, I realized how important photography is to fans. Band [...]
