The quarters are here. Portugal has bit the grimier side of a German's bung hole but there are three more quarter-final fixtures to be played. So in the spirit of absolute bone-breaking uselessness, us three Pirates sat down and thought about the shittiest 11 players we've seen so far in the group phase. I mean seriously, who really cares that Wesley Sneijder is looking like best damn midfielder in the world at the moment for the Netherlands, it's better to think about the bloody bastards who wasted our precious hours of sleep by being complete bungling idiots with a ball. I have many obsessions in life. Barbecued pork ribs are right at the top of the list of course. Then there is arranging my CDs in chronological order. And of course there is the art of tasering the neighbors' kids. Or assembling my very own Gundam V-series robot complete with steel wings, chain guns and eight missile decks. Californian band Starflyer 59, headed up the brooding, facial-hair driven frontman Jason Martin, happens to be another one. Yup, 'who' you might say. I've given up trying to highlight to supposed clued-in idiots that their last three albums made [...]
Here's another from the late night/early morning listening department: It's been a while since I've heard anything about Starflyer 59 , so I visited their Myspace page. It looks like they recently put the finishing touches on a new album titled Dial M and are hoping for a late summer release via Tooth & Nail. I dropped the band a message with hopes of finding out more about it...I'll share any news received. Download : Starflyer 59 - "I Win" Download : Starflyer 59 - "Wake Up [...]
Sorry for the late posting of this...I meant to get this up on Sunday or Monday, but time really got away from me. (Especially with figuring my taxes last night! I should find a way to deduct my Christmas music purchases then I'd be OK!!!) Very well....on to part two of the collection.... 9. Kanute-Last Christmas Last Christmas is probably one of my least favorite Christmas songs, but has yielded some of my most favorite cover versions. It turns out the Wham boys wrote a pretty [...]

It's 22 days until Christmas morning. I have no idea where this year went, clearly the fastest of my life. A lot of exciting things have happened lately. Peace on Earth has made over two thousand dollars for Toys for Tots with weeks left. I lost my car the other night (yes, LOST my car) and I'm braving the cold to see Kelly Clarkson tonight (Don't hate). You can stream all but the last ten minutes of my Out the Other appearance, including A live performance of a song from Peace on Earth (not [...]

I just returned from several days of camping in the lovely Sequoia National Park with my family. We had a very nice time hiking, playing in the river, taking in the beautiful scenery, and just relaxing in the cool, fresh mountain air. Despite a case of really bad sunburn and a slight knee injury on my part, I would definitely recommend a camping adventure in the Sequoia or King's Canyon area to anyone (just make sure to reapply sunscreen and be careful where you step). When I was a kid, we camped [...]
Don't know how much longer I can keep rolling out these mixtapes.... I need to get back to writing more reviews and making the content more appealing. I appreciate the increase in readership and all that visit this blog. But I don't want it to be just because I post a ton of mp3s. I want you to visit and return because the content is different and is something you want to come back to. So, any suggestions on what you would like to see on this blog would be greatly appreciated. Please leave a [...]
I am a total fan of everything that Starflyer 59 has done so when I ran into The Brothers Martin I definitely was intrigued. The Brothers Martin are a collaboration between brothers Ronnie Martin ( Joy Electric ) and Jason Martin ( Starflyer 59 ). Prior to their separate projects the brothers were together in the band Dance House Children back in 1990, releasing two albums. Now, a good 16 plus years later, DHC has been revived as The Brothers Martin with their s/t debut released in January on the Tooth And Nail [...]

This week brings us a ton of amazing new releases. Probably one of the best weeks of new music this entire year. There were so many albums that i'm cutting the samples to only one track instead of the usual two. A lot of these i'm only listening to for the first time like Bettie Serveert , Richard Buckner and Favourite Sons to albums I can completely recommend to anyone from Brazilian Girls , Junior Boys and Yo La Tengo . There [...]

Starflyer 59 has always been one of those bands that despite how many great albums they put out, still don't receive the attention they deserve. Twelve years, eight albums and six EPs later SF59 still have the same fanbase they've always had. I think this largely has to do with their longtime partnership with Tooth and Nail Records that has limited their audience. But recently, the man behind SF59, Jason Martin has taken to making several smaller-run CDs and vinyls for the band's small, but dedicated audience. "I Win" comes from a small EP released only [...]
