As a loyal follower of STRFKR, I have worshipped every moment of the band’s existence, starting with the first time I heard “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second,” and continuing into the release of “Miracle Mile,” despite its undeservedly mixed reviews. I’m unapologetically intolerant of STRFKR, (but just don’t tell them I told you so.) Another in a long line of apathetically smug exports from Portland, Oregon (see also: gratuitous leather goods ), STRFKR’s third album Miracle Mile is 'meh' at best. STRFKR, (previously known as Starfucker, also known as PYRAMID, briefly entitled Pyramiddd, reverting back to Starfucker, now re-designated STRFKR) would do better to carry their identity crisis over into their music. So, I'm thinking it's Friday night somewhere in a quiet Midwestern suburb and some popular middle school girls are throwing a rambunctious party weeks before their first days in the big leagues: high school. Obviously, their popularity is largely devoted to their trendy sensibilities and indie music tastes: the central force which never ceased to illicit envy from the 'lesser' tweens in town. Fueled by massive levels of naivety, inflated egos, and self-image concerns,  STRFKR 's  Miracle Mile   is the abysmal soundtrack to that stereotype-fulfilling, booze-laden, parents-out-for-the-night house party. Another show on the eve of SxSW we had to attend was Starfucker at The Mohawk . They always throw down the jams and recent IT Department favorite Blackbird Blackbird were opening. It was severely sold out and though I did not witness it, I am pretty sure there were more than a few that managed to sneak in.
