This past Friday, I headed over to the Biltmore Cabaret to check out Starfucker, not entirely certain of what to expect of the venue. It was my first time there and a couple of friends had told me of the low and small stage, and the darkness of the venue. I got to the venue [...]

Madonna is forever timeless and the music she made in the 80's has to be some of my personal fav. It defines an era where girls just wanted to have fun, and when big synths where coming into their own. I've recently come to find a few singles that have been remixed and revamped by some of today's hot producers. I didn't hear about Starfucker until the mixtape that Edwin van Cleef dropped on us this month. I was pleasantly supprised to hear someone cover "Girls Just Want To Have [...]
Sick of Sasquatch? Bored with Bumbershoot? Just want more more more? Here's North of Northwest's second annual guide to Canadian summer music festivals. Dawson City Music Festival July 15-17, Dawson City, Yukon I've never heard DCMF described as anything but an amazing experience, a weekend of performances, creativity, and collaboration in a place whose very name conjures [...]

Oh Melon, I thought you'd never ask. The folks at Outside Lands have outdone themselves this year. What a line up! Here are some of the acts I'm most excited about: Little Dragon - "Twice" The Stone Foxes - "Stomp" Julieta Venegas - "Otra Cosa" Lord Huron - "Mighty" Phantogram - "When I'm Small" Sia - "You've Changed" [...]
I love that quote and I think that's something we should ask ourselves ALL the time. Contrary to popular opinion, there are lots of good things about repetition and routine. For example, you can't get good at something without constant practice. Some of the best songs have repetitive themes and addictive bass lines that we can never get enough of. At the same time a song can get played out and if you don't push yourself during practice you may get bored or not improve as much as you should. The repetition [...]

Portland's Starfucker (STRFKR) have announced additional dates to their national tour, including their first stint of festival appearances at San Francisco's Outside Lands and Canada's Sled Island . The band has been selling out shows across North America, performing in support of their recently released sophomore album, Reptilians (Polyvinyl) with Norwegian label mates Casiokids , as well as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Brahms, and We All Have Hooks For Hands . They kicked off the coast to coast tour in early March stopping...
Nothing says a love of punk rock like rare vinyls getting appropriate reissue treatment. Acts like The Stooges and Refused have met the new culture with ravaging five-star intensity this past year, so without further ado, we introduce another landmark for your palatable platters and portable players: Starfuckers. The Italian rock regime later known as Sinistri is something of a musical obscurity to modern-day listeners, and much like old pieces of memorabilia like Sub Pop 200 , Metallic Diseases is a relic that makes me think this article should be more of a [...]
Starfucker is destined for larger venues, and deservingly so. The show on Saturday, April 9 was pure heat that could barely be contained within the walls of the tiny Bug Jar. Before the band lit up their one-hour dance party, a hip-hop trio from Seattle called Champagne Champagne owned the stage, serving up a set...

(Photo by Andrew Swartz ) In my recent attempts to expand my music horizons (which until recently consisted primarily of indie rock and folk music), I've been listening to more electronic, synth-based artists. In doing so, I stumbled upon Starfucker / STRFKR, a four-man electronica band from Portland, who, despite having released their debut self-titled album in 2008, had managed to avert my radar. I was thrilled to find out that they were playing in Boston, but having seen previous shows at Brighton Music Hall, was skeptical that their genre of music would fit well with the [...]

by teepoo Another week another Mashup Monday! If you're in exam mode, I hope these cheer you up a tiny bit. Avicii Tweets My Road (DJ Chachi & Carlos Melange Bootleg) by DJ Chachi Fred Dancekowski Live @ Semana Cultural de Ciencias, Teatro Sa da Bandeira 17-02-11 by Fred Dancekowski Starfucker- Running Back Dragon Monkey (Gucci Mane vs. Skeletron) [...]
Starfucker , recently released a mash up album of their own tunes mixed with hip hop tracks. The results are extremely effective. Starfucker songs are so damn atmospheric and work so well as crossover beats for rap tunes. Some of the artists include Gucci Mane, 50 Cent, and De La Soul. My favorite has to be the "In Da Club" and "Julius" pair. Mixtape #1 by starfucker_usa

Yup, that's right. The picture makes no sense, but perhaps the video may explain some of that. Let's just guide you through this one. Something bad happens in the beginning and those two mystic warriors are not happy about it. They transport through time using a giant hourglass to save the day. As you know, we here at MUF love ridiculous videos, but it helps that Chappo 's latest song "Come Home" rocks me sideways too. Chappo consists of two Craigslist roomates who apparently hit it off so well they decided to start a [...]

Monday Music's the weekly post where SOIWT drops its London-only rule, and goes global: Purity Ring - Ungirthed ( mp3 ) Dang man, this is irresistible. Like a hopelessly lovesick teenager, I'm doting over Megan James ' falsetto, her perky pop peaks, her echoey keyboard bounce. Like a hopelessly lovesick teenager, I want to write on my pencil case that I love her. And like a hopelessly lovesick teenager, I'll probably have moved on in a week's time. ( NB: the video below is a school assigment by one Lianne Blondeau [...]
