Washington DC - You've got to get past the name. It's juvenile. It's offensive. It's vulgar. Understood. But as soon as you accept Starfucker is… Starfucker… you will love them. And your love will only grow once you see them live. I was lucky enough to see the band at Black Cat on September 12 and they rocked my world. True to the indie-music genre, not one of the band members can weigh more than 80 pounds and they were all decked out in hipster-appropriate wear (including hand-drawn T-shirts, daffodil-yellow cardigans, and the ugliest grandma glasses [...]

You know that scene in Dirty Dancing where Baby carries a watermelon? She doesn't know where she's carrying a watermelon, but it turns out she carries it to the Summer Resort's staff underground dance club. She walks in, and is at once horrified and excited by the sweat, half naked bodies, and loud music. That was my initial experience at the Starfucker show and it got better from there. Except I had no watermelon. Because who brings a watermelon to a dance party? That is Dirty Dancing 's only plot flaw. Anyway, you know [...]

Our SoundKlout series is all about finding the best artists SoundCloud has to offer. Each day will spotlight a handful of good music from a selected SoundClouder. If you know anyone that needs noticing, make sure to hit us up with a few of theirs tracks. You know it's sad I haven't done that many posts on Starfucker - They've only gotten so much better over time. Their experimental style is hard to rap your head around, but once you get a hold on it, [...]

Next month the split 7" from STRFKR/Champagne Champagne will drop via Polyvinyl, and this Skeltron mix of 'Dragon Queens' is the opening track. Starfucker have this amazing ability of creating up-tempo tracks that can make you dance like a loon, but on the flip-side they can also make quite melancholic electronic pop too; the latter being showcased in 'Dragons Queen'. The Champagne Champagne portion of the vinyl is pretty sweet too, but 'Dragon Queens' just edges it for us.
Starfucker, also stylized as STRFKR, have a pretty busy schedule ahead of them for the upcoming months. Along with a tour with Beat Connection, the synthesizer-loving trio is dropping a new split 7" with Seattle-based hip-hop outfit Champagne Champagne. The A-side features a new Starfucker jam, "Dragon Queens," which will appear in a different form on the band's forthcoming new album. As for the B-side, that will be handled by Champagne Champagne, who have provided "I Fell Through" for the clear green vinyl. On top of all that, Starfucker is still doing their whole [...]

Fantastic record label Polyvinyl is putting together a compilation to help with ongoing efforts of the recovery of the Japanese from the awful Tsunami that hit earlier this year. Starfucker have donated an unreleased track to the album, and it's stupendous. Leaving off right where they left with releasing one of the best album of the year so far, Reptilians , the track could of easily been a standout on the album. The slow burner has the band's signature twisty turning synths that makes everything seem a bit brighter around us. You can purchase the single or [...]

Starfucker have posted their track from the Japan Benefit Comp being released on Polyvinyl ( info ). The track is called 'The Wisdom of Insecurity' and is bit more subdued in comparison to a lot of the Starfucker back catalogue. It's a really lovely track though, so make sure you give it a listen and buy the record too. It's for a good cause.
