London's exlovers first appeared on our radar way back at the start of 2010 with their rather charming You Forget So Easily single and EP. The five-piece have now revealed a new video for Starlight, Starlight ahead of the release of their debut LP, Moth , which is set for release on May 21st via Young & Lost Club . The video was directed Frederick Lloyd (who you may know as multi-instrumentalist Ursine Vulpine ) and you can also pick up the song for free [...]

Soooo. It looks like At The Drive-In is getting back together and possibly playing some shows, touring and making a new record or some such crap. You know, as a guy who grew up in El Paso and was a part of its 'scene' when At The Drive-In was one of the only real bands in town(not counting Sparta or The Mars Volta ), I feel I need to say a thing or 2 about this. First, why? I was under the impression that the [...]

Tweet We first wrote about Exlovers back in January when my middle daughter decided they sounded like 'a Zebra'. I love my kids a lot but sometimes I find their reasoning a little hard to follow. Come to think of it, what do Zebras sound like? Do they 'neigh' like a Horse or 'bray' like a Donkey? Anyone? Or perhaps they do actually sound like lo-fi indie pop... Exlovers are a lo-fi 5 piece from London and have kindly offered [...]

Prefix Mag apparently is about to join The Deli in the effort to highlight emerging NYC artists through a series of free shows at Cameo co-presented by Golden Ratio Presents. The first show will be at Cameo on December 2, featuring 3 artists we are familiar with and a group we haven't covered yet: St.Lucia is a one man band by the way of South Africa who offers dancey electro with world and chill components - yes, "chill" is officially a musical genre people, so was decided by us. You can definitely hear some Africa in these tracks, [...]

A mixed feeling of shock and pride came over me when I saw this record online. The Noodleman has been playing the game tough for a few years now with the odd highlight, but I'm sure he will agree. This is massive news for the Canadian edit master. A nice sample based disco house track with a touch of 303 is always tight to set the mood right... for the night. (Sorry I couldn't help myself) The remixes are the standout for me on the record however, a superb lineup [...]

It was around Halloween the last time we spoke about Starlight Girls . They now have a new track, "Wasteland" and it carries on where, "The Hunch" left off. continue reading >>

So far we've only heard two songs from Brooklyn's Starlight Girls , but that's reason enough to be excited. They've got a stylish retro rock sound, but it's the melodies that make these songs easy to fall in love with. The vocals are light as a feather, but just sharp enough to cut through the mischievous backdrop, and while a lot of the noise coming out of Brooklyn has a nonchalant steadiness about it, Starlight Girls mix it up with a touch of theatricalism. It's worth getting excited about. Here's one last track [...]

Friday, November 14, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Monday is usually a good night to stay in, but I'd be crazy to not recommend a trip to the Mohawk for some hip hop greatness via Immortal Technique and Killer Mike. Doors are at 6:30pm. Tix are $20. Music for your face. Enjoy. : Imperial Teen - Runaway : Admittedly, I sort of forgot about Imperial Teen. It's been so long since their last album (The Hair The TV The [...]

Of all the multifarious pleasures found within modern music, surely the greatest is the vivid sound of a hundred past styles of pop sloshing around within songs: folding, mutating and sparkling. You can thank, as always, the internet, introducing each and every band to several lifetimes of music in a relentless of barrage of OMG THAT'S AWESOME . The bands are then shaped accordingly. Thus, Starlight Girls' songs sound like classic pop in some respects, and a smart, modern outfit in others. Today, 602s girl-group pop, crunchy garage guitars, weirdo psych-pop [...]
There's no two ways about it, the second 'proper' Matt Cardle single is rather amazing. Sure, it's a rip-off of Take That ripping off Coldplay - but even third generation amazingness is amazing, no? The video focuses less on his white white teeth than the 'Run For Your Life' video did and more on his model friends and outstretched hand. V. good. And if he hurries, he might get to sing this one on X Factor before the series ends this year.
