Last year, I saw Peelander-Z at Santos Party House and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. If there was a Grammy Category for Most Entertaining Live Act Peelander-Z would absolutely be a nominee. So when one of my favorite live bands were added to the bill performing alongside two of the best (if not the best) 8-Bit/chiptune bands out there, it became a must see show. Check out my review and pictures "after the jump" First up on [...]

Is it time to start listing the best tracks of year already? Why yes, yes it is. Now, a lot of these tracks have been available for a while (e.g. last year or in the GT 2010 preview ), but they either had their official release this year or I just thought they should be on this list for some other reason or another. Without further ado, I give you the first volume of the Best Downloadables of 2010. Downloadables: Spector (mp3) by Signals [...]
All the shows that you don't want to miss this weekend

Starscream are great. Who knows if any of the thousands of people who read this blog actually care about chiptune music as much as me but I'm here to say that, if you don't, you should. Chiptune is a genre of music that is still largely in its infancy but is constantly advancing to more interesting heights. Maybe I spent way too much time on my NES and gameboy back in the day, but when I listen to Starscream's "Gravity in Terms of Space-Time" a rush of nostalgia comes over me and takes me to a [...]
I saw this video of Starscream 's 2009 BLIP performance on Vice's Motherboard and figured I'd share it here. Jean Y. Kim , a 21-year-old studio art student at NYU, uses a Gameboy to produce some "mind blowing" visuals while the band throws down a fit of 8-bit glory. NES under Xray. Pretty Tight So Anamanaguchi and Starscream came last night to play a show at Oberlin and fucking killed it. I was really honored to get to open for them and really had a great time. Turned out to be more people there then I expected and Anamanaguchi seemed to have really liked my set. Hopefully I'll get to chill with them in New York when I'm there in January. And brunch with them afterward was really fun. Some really cool guys, definitely don't miss any of their shows. [...]

...while it had been some time since we'd been out to Blind Bob's for a rock show [forgive us, dear readers], the summer air seemed to beckon to the masses, filling the venue to near-capacity during this evening. Perhaps you'd also have to factor in that last night was only the second showcase for the much-loved Squids Eye Records in 2009.... ...Even early in the night for the opening set of Brooklyn's Starscream, the venue was percolating with activity. While we had sampled some of the band's songs, seeing them in a live setting [...]

...while the Squids Eye Records camp has been relatively hush thus far in 2009, tonight the venerable Dayton label will issue a twin shot that kicks off a string of releases that should take the label well into the new year. Tonight at Blind Bob's , the long-dormant Yakuza Heart Attack returns to the stage with a prog-minded fury that is seldom matched in the Gem City [or anywhere else for that matter]. The occasion? The release of their second album, titled simply II . The other prong in this dual attack tonight features [...]
