I love how this has caused a furore over here . It just a music magazine (albeit now at a cheaper €4.95) with a FREE CD featuring Heathers, Fight Like Apes, Adebisi Shank, Halfset, The Jimmy Cake, Mumblin' Deaf Ro, The Vinny Club, Jape vs Delorentos and more. This country. You people. There's also an article by myself about the Illegal Art label which talks to Girl Talk and Steinski about music copyright and sampling. it is accompanied by superb illustration from BrenB . Forget about Abba, buy it for [...]

This month we bring you news of the latest issue of State a little earlier than normal as we feel you may well need time to prepare yourselves. Where to start? How about the cover and bloody hell, it's only Abba . We have an exclusive interview with Benny and Björn, the architects of some of the most perfect pop music ever made. They tell us about their murky folk past, their dabblings in the world of porn movie soundtracks, love and marriage, divorce and songwriting and how they went from zeros to heroes and back again. [...]

I'm not proficient at performing Google searches, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance if somebody else has already been elected official torchbearer of the Michael Ian Black (née Michael Schwartz) backlash club. As far as I can tell (that is, without doing a single web search for "Michael Ian Black sucks" or "Michael Ian Black backlash"), I'm the first to attempt this. Let me tell you...it feels pretty good. I haven't even begun typing anything substantial yet, just this flowery introduction, and it feels really, really good. I'm talking blowjob-from-a-girl good. I remember Mr. Black when he [...]

Sit and finish all those tracks that you've been putting off, while you wait for the plumber to fix that shit. Disco Drugs-The State

After a beautiful lunchtime trek to Elysian Park with Nicci, I've spent all afternoon engaged in a heated debate with myself. I'm wondering...should I post the last "Adventures In Dating" that I wrote? According to Tom, Ilya and Matt, it is really, really insensitive, and I should only consider sharing it with the public in the event that I don't care whether or not the subject of the story -- or anyone she knows -- ever speaks to me again. Why? Because I think she's a regular reader of this here website. A website, mind you, whose readership [...]
I owe quite a few people an apology. My inbox (though nowhere near as cool as the one pictured above) continues to collect band submissions and I'm doing my best to get through them all. I really want to do better features on all of the bands included here but I'm running low on time at [...]
Today is Valentines Day and I am dedicating this post to my wonderful girlfriend Alex. Think of this as a playlist to play while eating dinner that you cooked for your loved one. Or while preparing it. Or while getting ready to go out. Perhaps you might want to make a mix cd for the car. I've sort of started with songs that I associate with my girlfriend and it moves into songs that more deal with the topic of love more than the singer professing love for [...]

A friend of mine and his wife have moved to Haiti to do missionary work for five years. Their selfless act of generosity prompted me to contact the group they work with, OMS International, Inc. , and see if I can do anything to help. I have been contacted and told they do need some volunteer help regarding web design work which is perfect for me since that is what I do. And since I can't move anywhere, like to Haiti, doing web work would be the best option for me. So we will see what [...]

Do you find yourself fixing for some new music? Do ya, do ya? "Walls are coming down, ceilings are caving in, so be careful what you wish for..." The States are an impressive band from New York City. Not afraid to belt out lyrics about "liberty being such a b*tch" they sing it real and they sing it loud. Progressive rock not unlike The Killers, these guys are a pleasure to listen to and should not be underrated. Having previously self-released Multiply Not Divide in 2006, their [...]
States Face Decisions on Who Is Mentally Fit to Vote A terribly funny headline form the New York Times this morning. I didn't read the article, but it seems to me that I would classify 80% of the population as unfit to vote. The percentage is based on the fact that the US is old, most of us are over 40. As these boomer generation and older become more febrile and fickle, they lose the ability to think properly. At the same time, these folks [...]
