This Saturday night, Goldroom will be performing a special Live Set at Brooklyn Bowl; his second in NYC after last week's Live Performance at Santos Party House and the final East Coast date of his current tour. We had an opportunity to talk with the man behind the project, Josh Legg, about his Live Tour, the source of his positive energy, and some of the influences behind his music. The Los Angeles-based artist just released the 57-minute Saguaro Mix , and recently released the original track " Only You Can Show Me [...]

Tonight we're celebrating the gorgeous weather in DC with a triple-header of electronic pop for the latest edition of our AWARD-WINNING series: All Things Gold. Dig out those frayed shorts and tank tops from the back of your closet and join us at U Street Music Hall. Sleeves are allowed but strongly discouraged. STRONGLY discouraged. We've got headliner Goldroom , an accomplished DJ who will hitting up the District tonight for the first time with his brand new live band. We've also got one of my own personal favorite bands out there, Stepdad , [...]

This is looking to be a good one folks. Get involved. This all goes down Thursday, April 11th at U Street Music [...]

Nothing brightens up our day quite like some new Goldroom , especially when it's an original. No surprise here that Josh Legg's latest single, "Only You Can Show Me," is yet another shining ray of summer-time electronica. In the same vein as "Fifteen," Goldroom lays some lovely female vocals over his music, this time courtesy of L.A. songstress Mereki Beach . Stream it below. DC: You can catch Goldroom when he plays U Street Music Hall for a springtime edition of All Things Gold with Stepdad on Thursday, April 11th. Tickets available at the link below. [...]
All of the big year end lists are in, but I've decided to take my own whack at the best songs of 2012! I won't bore you with a huge introduction this week. You know what these lists are about. I'm counting down my favorite songs of 2012. It was a strange [...]
Glory glory hallelujah, it's Friday, beautiful and wonderful Friday. In celebration of of the much needed break from the stress associated with Monday through Thursday we have a playlist of, simply put, beautiful songs. Some upbeat, fast-paced, others slow jams. Some hip-hop, some instrumental, but all full of beauty. In the case that you think something like Insane Clown Posse is touching and beautiful, this playlist might not be so beautiful to you. But, you never know. Just listen. What's the worst that could happen?
Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

ILLUSTRATION BY LYDIA CONKLIN 2012 was a spectacular year in music - one with so many records we truly loved that narrowing down the list was difficult. Ordering it, however, was almost impossible. This was a year of shifting genres and experimentation. This was a year that introduced us to some bands that will remain on rotation for years to come and albums that are already on their way to becoming modern classics. Along with the return of many favorites, we were given the debuts from Django Django , Alt J , Frank Ocean , [...]

Ann Arbor man Jeremy Malvin aka Chrome Sparks lets loose a deceptively titled new single called “Send the Pain On”. With a host of soulful samples, the track works as audio medicine, letting out all of our bad and unwanted energy. Rather we focus on entertaining arena-style synths that fill the room up quickly. A massive tune. This will be off an upcoming EP this Winter. Fun Fact: When Jeremy is not working on his Sparks project, he’s off being the drummer in funtime indie-pop band Stepdad [...]

Stepdad have got quite a tune with "Must Land Running", right? Check it out, its from their album Wildlife Pop .

One of 2012's most self-assured and brash singles, Stepdad unleashes the organized cacophony of peeling synths and buzzing keys on "Must Land Running." It is widescreen pop that boils over on the self-actualizing lyrics of the chorus, "Feel it all / feel it all around you / take it back / take it back with you." The keyboards, and it feels like there are fifty of them, climb to the top of the room, flickering against the top of the arrangement like a million summer moths around a bare porch light bulb. "Must Land [...]

Welcome to the first suggested shows post on our all new The Wild Honey Pie! Hopefully this series has already been something you enjoy and now are able to dig in even more as it's easier on the eyes than ever. This week, we're pretty excited for Reptar and Rubblebucket who are co-headlining both Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg. Other must see acts this week in New York include Kaki King, The Babies, Yellow Ostrich, Radical Dads, and so many more! Thanks for checking out our suggested New York City indie concerts list! [...]
It's time again to look at those songs we all need most; the ones that make our work day faster. This is the annual Caffeinated Consciousness list for 2012! It is time once again to compile the list obligatory's Caffeinated Consciousness list. Those of us who have to keep [...]
![Pop Montreal 2012 – Stepdad @ Le Divan Orange [September 22, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4586780_lg.jpg)
On my last night from Pop Montreal 2012. Still at the POP Montréal, Evenko and Halifax Pop Explosion showcase that took place at Le Divan Orange . After seeing Goose Hut play. The next band to go up was Grand Rapids' Stepdad . I had to say they played a really unique set. Their music was a blend of indie synth=pop electronic funk and dance music. Sort of reminded me of Passion Pit. Really enjoyable and fun [...]
Gone are the days when a sync placement purely involved just TV, film and advertising. An increasingly substantial part of the pie is now represented by gaming. So it's great news when we say The Orchard distributes 3 of the tracks on this year’s FIFA 13 soundtrack, including efforts by ...

When Stepdad play the Beat Kitchen, it’ll be a homecoming of sorts for the band that has roots in Chicago, although they’re now based in Grand Rapids, Mich. If you have a penchant for incredibly catchy indie electronic pop hooks, you’re in luck when it comes to Stepdad’s “Must Land Running.” The track, from Stepdad’s 2012 album Wildlife Pop , recalls the simple beauty of nature as it bounces along with fantastic, frantic energy. The lyrics bring to mind a quainter time when kids ran freely outside instead of sitting [...]

It's Thursday, the first day of the 11th annual MidPoint Music Festival and you don't know where to start. Sure, it's pretty obvious that Andrew Bird, Dirty Projectors and Best Coast are band names you are familiar with and plan to try and check out. But what about the other 4-6 hours of prime time schedule filling time you have on your hands? Well, here is what I recommend for your Thursday. - Take It Easy : MidPoint is a marathon, not a sprint, so don't burn [...]

Grand Rapids native sons, Stepdad , are bringing their quirky electro-pop to DC9 tonight along with Rich Aucoin for the District stop of their amazingly titled Bill Murray Ate My Neighbors tour. We've been in love with these guys ever since "My Leather, My Fur, My Nails" hit our ears and our incredibly excited to catch that and the rest of their debut LP, Wildlife Pop , live for the first time. Come join us. Stream some of our favorite tracks below then buy your tickets [...]
Tonight, a menajorie of marauding bands of rowdy men are in it for nothing but outrageous, nonsensical, and wholehearted fun. Best described by themselves as bands that are part "gym class-meets-group therapy," they're songs are simplistic in melody, straightforward in lyrics, and full of heart. Their live performances are loads of cardio and laughter. This show will be nothing short of a chaotic jamboree. Come join us tonight (9/25/2012) in Brooklyn, New York at The Glasslands Gallery as we team up with PopGun to present Rich Aucoin, Stepdad and Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! Tickets are $10 advance, $12 [...]

by teepoo On Thursday I attended Rich Aucoin's live show for the first time. Rich Aucoin’s live show has grown into something more than a regular concert. It’s an interactive experience and no matter where the audience stood, they could feel like they were part of the show. - New York’s Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! kicked the night with performance antics that were just as random as their band name. There was [...]
