James Murphy warned us last summer that This is Happening would likely be his last album with/as LCD Soundsytem and officially began the funeral procession for the project two weekends ago when he announced a final million-hour long show at Madison Square Garden. That show sold out (according to the Justin Bieber movie Never Say [...]

</embed> James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem just went on the Colbert Report to get more famous even though he is quitting/retiring from being a relevant electro overground buzzband. Not sure what this whole swan song gimmick is all about, but if ur serious abt retiring, u really need to just 'walk away' and not try 2 sell out a huge arena + do 5 shows + go on a media tour before u go. Anyways, James Murphy shaved his usual 5 o'clock shadow to be on TV, then he was all nervous [...]
"At a certain point, I think it got embarrassing." That's the reason that the ever-popular James Murphy used to explain why he is retiring LCD Soundsystem after some New York shows in April. To say they are in demand is an understatement. James took to The Colbert Report on Monday [Read more]
Tonight LCD Soundsystem stopped by The Colbert Report to give their last TV performance. James did a short interview with Colbert, and then the band ran through "I Can Change". It was a great performance. Definitely a good sign off. It has to make you excited for their farewell shows. Before James Murphy retires LCD Soundsystem in NYC this April, there's one more way he can ensure that they're going out on top: The Colbert Bump . Murphy and Co. stopped by Comedy Central tonight for their "last appearance on television," leaving Stephen Colbert hilariously perplexed: "But you didn't start until you were in your 30s, right? You're not like [Justin] Bieber at 41," he joked. "Though that is some lovely hair." After teasing Murphy on the choice to focus on his label, DFA Records ("You're gonna be The Man. You're going to say to young rockers, [...]

LCD Soundsystem 's farewell concerts aren't for another six weeks, but the acclaimed outfit has already begun to say their goodbyes. Last night, James Murphy and co. hit The Colbert Report for their final television appearance, and while it may not have proved as memorable as their 2007 performance on Letterman, awkwardness always make for good television. Murphy proceeded the live music by sitting down for an all-too-brief interview with Colbert, which saw the frontman struggle to come up with words to explain why he was deciding to retire on top. This was then [...]
I never know what to make of weeks like this. And when I say "weeks like this" I actually mean every week I write one of these recap posts. You never know what to expect in the music world or in life in general. I've said this many times before, but it bears repeating. Think about it. In a single week a hotly anticipated album can drop, festival rumors, no matter how legit or just plain entertaining, can begin to circulate, and a larger-than-life band can announce a string of tour dates. Then there the more unfortunate events. It seems [...]

Yeah, this was yesterday's thing, but we don't have cable so I just saw it. Colbert expresses love for & touching of Beiber & has a sell-out off between Vampire Weekend & Black Keys... Yeah, when our music & comedy worlds collide, we all win! Enjoy! Stephen Colbert had a "sell-out-off" debate between Ezra from Vampire Weekend and both members of the Black Keys on which band had most sold their souls. And while this segment is pretty hilarious, it also highlights a fundamental shift in how bands and their fans perceive the notion of selling out. It used to be the death knell of any band to be considered a "sell out" but the new financial reality for bands (who make their money through touring, merchandise and selling out) has changed that. Now, everyone sells out and nobody really cares. So hey, let's make fun of that! [...]
An indie-rock battle of epic proportions took place on The Colbert Report between The Black Keys and Vampire Weekend which led to one of the funniest things I've seen this year. Stephen Colbert invited both Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of the Black Keys and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig onto the show to help him decide who he should vote for in the Best Alternative Music category for the Grammys. He suggests the bands influence him by showing who's music has been used more in television commercials. The end result leads to [...]
The perks of winning a Grammy apparently include the right to vote in future Grammy Awards. Or, if you're Stephen Colbert, the right to determine this year's Best Alternative Album by hosting a "sell-out-off" with two of the nominated acts on national TV. Watch Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koening and The Black Keys' presentations above. Warning: it gets violent.
While we found it kind of curious that Paul Simon is scheduled to release his new his new studio album So Beautiful, Or So What next April, when the record's opening track and lead single is the Christmas themed tune Getting Ready For Christmas Day. That hasn't stopped the legendary singer-songwriter from taking advantage of the holiday season tie-in, as Simon stopped by The Colbert Report last week to perform the song... Promoting his album The Lady Killer , the impeccably dressed Cee Lo Green stopped by The Colbert Report to perform his hit " F*** You ". Unlike his heavily censored performance on Letterman earlier this week, Cee Lo could sing his original, R-rated lyrics with carefree abandon. As a bonus, the singer replaced the song's explecatives in an alternative version with the much more controversial "Fox News." Watch both the Not Safe For Work and Not Safe For Conservative News Programs performances below. [...]
