Stephen Colbert had a "sell-out-off" debate between Ezra from Vampire Weekend and both members of the Black Keys on which band had most sold their souls. And while this segment is pretty hilarious, it also highlights a fundamental shift in how bands and their fans perceive the notion of selling out. It used to be the death knell of any band to be considered a "sell out" but the new financial reality for bands (who make their money through touring, merchandise and selling out) has changed that. An indie-rock battle of epic proportions took place on The Colbert Report between The Black Keys and Vampire Weekend which led to one of the funniest things I've seen this year.
