Last month, Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks teamed up with the glam-metal veterans L.A. Guns to cover each other on a split single for Matador's Singles Going Home Alone story, and it took forever for either song from the 73 to make it to the internet. Trust me, we've been looking. But now you can finally hear Malkmus and company faithfully taking on the L.A. Guns rager " Wheels Of Fire ." The song got played on the Canadian community radio station CJSR, and you can hear the entire show here . Jump to the 1:48:10 mark [...]

Well, 2011. You were quite the year! So much so that I've only been able to recover enough to think about you a full week into 2012. Crazy, huh? New jobs, lots of change, oodles of shenanigans, and yes, lots of good music. So much so, that I undoubtedly missed vast quantities of things that [...]
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks "No One Is (As I Are Be)" It's not as if Stephen Malkmus has been spending his years writing a lot of songs that make perfect literal sense, but I find this one to be particularly slippery – I can key into the central emotion here but I can't quite tell you what that emotion is, and the lines resonate with me in a major way, but when I really think about them, I am hard pressed to tell you why. And this may be part of why I love it [...]

On January 14th, Matador Records and its subsidiary True Panther Sounds will release an 11-track vinyl-only sampler entitled Intended Play . Pressed on cherry red vinyl, the collection includes new and unreleased music from Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Perfume Genius, Ceremony, and Tanlines, as well as previously released tracks from Fucked Up, Girls, Cold Cave, and Kurt Vile. As per above, it also comes wrapped in a pretty bad ass cover. Here's the best part though: the thing costs only $1.98. Pre-orders are now ongoing at Matador's web store . Intended [...]

Seeing how our staff has distinct tastes and opinions on music, it would be nearly impossible for us to determine a 10 Albums of 2010 list as a single entity without excessive bloodshed. So over the next couple of days, we'll be posting Top 10 Albums of 2011 lists as determined by individual Loud Loop Press staff members. Today, associate editor Audrey Leon offers up her list for Top 10 Albums of 2011. What a long strange trip it has been. All obligatory yearbook quotes aside, 2011 has been an interesting year for music. I spent [...]

Two thousand and eleven has been an odd year for me, and I think for music as well. Between acclimating to a completely different environment and being fully immersed in the music world, I foresaw a serious evolution and transformation of my music tastes prior to compiling my "Best of" lists. After the completion of said lists, it seems that not much has actually changed - not only in the last year, but the last five, when observing which names were included. To be honest, it was quite difficult to decide on 10 full albums I really [...]

Tweet vaso link It's hard to tell whether this was a really great year for music or if I was just paying attention more than last year. That sums up my feelings at the end of every year. I don't want to do too much of an introduction because I have quite a bit to say. I'm not putting these releases in any particular order, they are just my favorites. Some I listened to more than others, but putting them [...]

This list was an extremely easy one to do, however, like any lists, I'm sure I've left off more than I care to remember. All I had to do is go to iTunes and click on the songs I played most in 2011. POW! If it were only that easy. Here's a small sampling of my favorite songs of 2011 and I wish the rest of that M83 albums was like "Midnight City." Sigh. Starting in the New Year, Matador Records will be releasing rare, exclusive tracks from a number of their artists through their new 73 subscription series, "Singles Going Home Alone." Available January 17th, the first 73 is a split single featuring the unlikely duo of Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks and 802s glam-metal godfathers L.A. Guns. On the single, Malkmus and his band cover L.A. Guns' 1989 track "Wheels of Fire" and The Guns take on "Gorgeous George" off Malkmus' Mirror Traffic , which dropped earlier this year. It has been well-documented that [...]

Touching down in Holland equipped with the ashamedly meagre grasp of Dutch of your typical drug tourist feels none too good. Having thumbed two phrases into the iPhone for safe keeping, neither would turn out to be in any way useful were any altercation to arise: they happened to be the gratuitous 'spreekt u Engels', and something about ordering a beer. Unable to pronounce either correctly, one coincidentally proves to be entirely incorrect and incomprehensible. A festival celebrating Canadian independent music produce in the unerringly picturesque, canal-infested Dutch haven that is Utrecht may seem somewhat [...]

I think I picked the right place to study abroad. Constellations Festival is relatively young, but that doesn't keep the event from bringing in some of Indie's finest acts. 20102s festival included the likes of Broken Social Scene , Sleigh Bells , Local Natives , The Vaccines , and many other fantastic acts. With hopes high for this year, the festival returned to the University of Leeds Student Union on Nov. 12, and it brought acts including Yuck , Braids, The Big Pink , The Antlers , and [...]
O novo single da banda do líder dos Pavement, chama-se "Senator" e faz parte do álbum Mirror Traffic , que saiu durante o verão de 2011. A banda que começou recentemente a sua tour europeia, não tem, no entanto, nenhuma data marcada em território português.

Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks brought some solid tunes from their latest "Mirror Traffic," a collaboration between Malkmus and Beck. Malkmus, along with Mike Clark, Joanna Bolme and new drummer Jake Morris, seemed to be having a damn good time playing for the appreciative crowd at The Music Box. Ty Segall, who always rocks the house, opened. Photos of Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks and Ty Segall from October 19, 2011 by Debi Del Grande. [View with PicLens]

Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks latest album entitled Mirror Traffic is full of some pretty solid tracks. I posted on one of them back in July and here's another song that really stood out to me. Stick Figures In Love has a really catchy hook in it that I instantly loved with a cool sounding guitar line that plays throughout the song. It's vintage Stephen Malkmus throughout the song with slacker vocals, an easy vibe and energy to boot. This second track I'm posting is not from Malkmus' lastest album. It's actually from his first album with [...]

Day Two of Treasure Island Music Festival is always my favorite. The crowd is calmer, less drugged up, and slightly older than the previous day. Plus the music is more akin to my tastes as this is the more "rock oriented" showcase of bands. Again I did not have my DSLR, so make due with my new iPhone 4S pictures and Instagram filters. Armed with some witty stage banter and clever lyrics, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks stopped by the Music Box in support of their latest album Mirror Traffic . Malkmus and the Jicks also delved into their back catalog by dusting off "Discretion Grove", a super jammy "1% of One", a synthesizer fueled rendition of "Pencil Rot" and a Malkmus solo version of "Church On White". Hailing from San Francisco, Ty Segall cranked his Death By Audio Fuzz War pedal for some scuzzy tunes that had everyone nodding their heads in approval. Check out the pictures above.
