Crossing Colors EP by Il abanico Los Angeles-to-Brooklyn post-rock band Il Abanico plays music that sounds like one of the bands from the Teen Beat / Slumberland roster crossed with a heavy Latin influence. Il Abanico is an Indie/Experimental band created in 2010 by Nicolás Losada (guitar) and Juliana Ronderos (Voice). They expose their personalities with innovative melodies, an upbeat rhythm section and unorthodox guitars. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, this duo spent fall of 2010 composing what would become their first work "Crossing Colors" (February 2011); [...]

Tweet "Who is that anyway?" Answer: Kim Ki O ! Hailing from Istanbul, Turkey, electronic musical duo Kim Ki O (which, if you haven't guessed from my incredibly witty opening sentence, means "Who is that, anyway?" in Turkish) is made up of Ekin Sanaç on synths, keys, vocals, beats and Berna Göl on bass, vocals, beats. The two friends have known each other for over fifteen years, and have been hard at work making music as Kim Ki O since 2006. Their music is [...]

I haven't done this in a while for no reason at all. So, Im gonna to try and get it back up and running with music I like and appreciate. I also wanted to try and link up with Spotify as this appears to be a good way to listen / share music in a easy and truly legal way. Below is a mix I put together for Kansas City Roasterie a few years ago and I came across it today and I really like it. [...]

Le Couleur is a Montreal-based quartet, fronted by the lovely Laurence (who has Vietnamese roots). Their music refers mostly to Stereolab, but they're not afraid to add some kitschy (poppy, if you like) elements as well. Which is good. Listen to Billet pour Paris, for instance. Their album (and singles) are downloadable for FREE on their Bandcamp-page, HERE . Le Couleur - Billet pour Paris

I didn't want to dwell on 9/11. But much like those days held onto me in various psychological ways, I'm compelled to dig up a tune from from the aftermath. I realize this is a pretty minor tune in the Stereolab canon. And yet, it served as an especially soft audio blanket pretty deep into that October, albeit one you wrestle with through restless nights, never really comforting you. Stereolab - Baby Lulu

My girlfriend and now fiancée first introduced me to Smog/Bill Callahan. There's something very human, natural and honest about his voice that I love; the way he frees words and leaves them bare. The video above is a video for a Smog track called "I Break Horses" (and yes, this is another preview for what's to come on The Iceberg). Here is the latest interview I did with a local psychedelic band The Hoa Hoa's on BlogTO. They have this song called "Blue Gumball" , [...]

Chaz Bundick attempts his best translation of Mars Audiac Quintet -era Stereolab on the retro-jazz pop jingle "How I Know", available on Toro Y Moi's excellent sophomore album Underneath the Pine . L.A.'s Jordan Kim directs. And yes, one of the girls in this Scooby Doo-influenced clip is the " I Am Carles " model.

Tweet This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the [...]

10 YEARS OLD?! I remember first hearing Since I Left You and having my mind and ears blown. And wondering how the hell they squeezed so many samples together to create something so entirely fresh, varied, and somehow, packed all into a cohesive album. One that simply drips of summer. It still holds up today. To celebrate its 10 year anniversary Modular is releasing a 2-disc set full of remixes and rarities. Stay tuned for details. ° ° FRONTIER PSYCHIATRIST [...]

A day or two ago, Thomas Meluch (known widely as Benoît Pioulard) summoned up his spectacular harmonizing abilities and posted this simplistic and highly moving rendition of Iron & Wines cover of the old Stereolab song 'Peng ! 332. A note that went along with it explained that he recorded it for his wife Nico (it being a favourite of hers), which is probably the sweetest gesture that I can think of. Hear his cover and several other of his compositions at his SoundCloud below. Peng ! 33 [Benoît Pioulard Version] [...]

I sort of feel like Coach Eric Taylor in a Friday Night Lights halftime speech every time I jump behind the wheel here to write these intros every Friday. It's all pep talk banter: "we've been scouring the internet" this, and "we're gonna soldier on no matter what" that. But in all reality, how much pep talking do you really need? It's 10 bang-up tracks, simple as that. So, for this week, let's eliminate the superfluous speeches, and get right down to the nitty gritty. A couple streams of unmatched quality (we're talking Caribou remixing Radiohead [...]
