They waited three years to give it to us, but Stereolab has finally taken tracks that were recorded with 2008's Chemical Chords and made them into a album to be released November 16. Not Music may technically be a few years old, but to our ears it is brand new. Hear the single "Sun Demon" above and bask in the poppy guitar melodies accented with synth tappings. Frontwoman Laetitia Sadier also has recently released a solo album since the declared hiatus in April. Here a track off [...]

My sister used to paint to Stereolab back in the day. I managed to steal some of their cds from her and this is how my relationship with the band started. Their sound is completely their own. I've never heard anyone successfully jack their style. The lead singer's husky female voice, the time changes, the interesting chords and art-pop rhythms are all back in the form of a new single, "Sun Demon." " Cobra and Phases... " is my favorite album of theirs. I'm gonna go find that and give [...]

Our Top 100 Tracks of the Decade lists (see sidebar on the right to peruse them) were epic undertakings. No small amount of poring, sorting, listening, re-listening, second-guessing and indiscriminate ranking went into it, and what came out was wonderful. Was it perfect? Definitely not. First off, Amanda and I didn't have identical lists, so OBVIOUSLY [Read Full Post...]
For some reason I haven't got round to listening to the new Serena Maneesh 'S-M 2: Abyss in B Minor' album in full, bit silly because I liked what I'd heard (was a wee bit 'Vanishing Point' era Primal Scream) and I enjoyed their debut. Even though this Stereolab remix has essentially been turned into a Stereolab song, I'm most deff gonna be turning my ears towards S-M 2: Abyss in B Minor this weekend.

[ We are pleased to welcome to these electronic pages disc jockey extraordinaire and man-about-town Jeff Breeze. Mr. Breeze truly needs no introduction, so we'll just plug his fine local music program on WMBR and ice cream blog and get out of the way. -- Ed. ] The roads that stretch across the Midwest do so on a more continental scale than those that wind through the hills of New England. Out west it is often just acres and acres of crops, with civilization clustered near highway pull-offs. It's on those roads that the [...]
It's been far too long since I've posted a mixtape. I don't know why I stopped posting mixtapes, but I do know that this seems to have coincided with my lack of mixtape making in 'the real world', a.k.a. life outside the internet. If I were to guess, it's because I'm way too OCD about them, and obsess over tracklists for so long that I never actually end up giving them to the intended parties. But I decided today that, come hell or high water, I was getting back on the horse! I've made summer mixtapes in the [...]
