Horns up for reader Rob Riege! He correctly identified last week's logo as belonging to the band Grandma! For his troubles, Rob wins five CDs from the MetalSucks Mansion Archives. Enjoy 'em, my man! This week we have another awesome prize for you, courtesy of David Hall's Handshake Inc.: three copies of Die Wege Der Lust, the [...]

We just got word over here at The Key that Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies - the Brian-Wilson-fronting-Fountain s-of-Wayne orchestral indie ensemble that warmed our hearts with its Flood EP last year - is on hiatus following its gig at Kungfu Necktie on Friday. The frontman tells us he's using the downtime to move from symphonic pop to synthpop, and has created a new monicker to do so: Resistor . Listen to and download their debut single "First World Problems" below. First World Problems by Resistor [...]

For their ambitious third album The Flood , Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies set out to create a major production that featured a HUGE ensemble of drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals, more vocals, violin, viola, cello, piano, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute, glockenspiel, handclaps, and various other percussive pieces. The bulk of it was recorded between Turtle Studios and Sweden in Northern Liberties, and the end result is a beautiful 5-song baroque pop EP that gives Goldberg and his friends/enemies much to celebrate and they'll be doing just that tonight at Johnny Brenda's. Joined them [...]
Whimsical pop-rock combo Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies love lush orchestrations. Dig the string section on today's Philly Local Phile, "July," the lead single from their forthcoming release The Flood . If the Flickr photostream on the band's website is anything to go by, the new EP will also feature clarinet and horns in the mix, along with snappy, Fountains of Wayne-style choral singalongs. We've come to expect this artful approach to songwriting from Mr. Goldberg & Co. What perhaps is unexpected is that music isn't the only art he's into. Goldberg volunteers at Philadelphia [...]
I'm not normally one to post a link to bands' fundraising pages, but when you offer something new and impressive, consider me in. Steve Goldberg & the Arch Enemies are pretty close to their fundraising goal with less than two days to go. They're offering up "July" as a preview of things to come. Stream [...]
Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies break open your week with the video for "July" from their EP, The Flood . http://stevegoldbergmusic.com/

Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies just released a new track and video, which you can check out below. The song is called "July," and it's the "feel-good summertime anthem" from their upcoming 5-song EP entitled The Flood . The music video was shot entirely on an Android phone in and around Philly. They've also launched a fundraising campaign to help pay for the post-production of the EP that you can contribute to HERE . Enjoy! - The Deli Staff

Steve Goldberg and The Arch Enemies are coming to the North Star Bar tonight. Goldberg and Co. are pop through and through, but think a lot less GaGa and a lot more brothers Wilson or The Zombies. Goldberg skillfully orchestrates lush pop numbers including full string and horns, like on the modernized Medieval folk tune "The Garden of Forking Paths". The delivery is straightforward with very little effects being utilized, but the songs sound full realized and bursting with sound. The song "Julia" has a timelessness to it that makes everything from the lovesick lyrics to the harpsichord intro [...]

>> More photos on Flickr Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies @ Kung Fu Necktie, Philadelphia (6/16/09) Don't be fooled by their weak-ass band name... Philly's own Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies play thoughtful and catchy "baroque pop" that's worth a listen. Even if their non-descript straightforward appearance doesn't appeal to you, their '60s-style melodies and well-composed orchestration definitely will. Kidding aside, they play a great live set and seem to be a nice bunch of guys. Steve better watch his [...]

Sigh...okay, well, instead of doing a full post this weekend, I decided just to make a podcast. Not to diminish my podcasts. I love my podcasts. They're actually the most fun part of this here blog. It's not overtly taxing, either, which is why I did a podcast today instead of a blog post. I've had a crappy weekend. You know how sometimes you're already tired and someone says something to you that sends you over the edge, and next thing you know you're throwing a fit, crying, etc. Okay, so maybe you don't know that. I do. That was [...]

Coming out of Philadelphia, Steve Goldberg and The Arch Enemies play big pop music with orchestral undertones that provides a seriously rewarding ebb and flow between songs. Taking pianos, strings, the classic rock elements, and, of course, Steve, the music comes together like three acts of an off broadway play (in my mind). When it was all said and done, I gave it a standing ovation. Be sure to check them out when the play the North Star Bar in Philly on June 17th. mp3: Steve Goldberg & The Archenemies - The Road [...]

It's almost the weekend and May has started. It's time to get to some shows. WXPN is having a little CD release party for its latest XPN Local volume. Doors open at 6 and the music starts at 7. Its an all local show (as you probably figured) featuring great acts from around the Philly region. Most notably, Bucks county natives Illinois and singer-songwriter extraordinaire Peasant are on the bill. This event is free, but you must sign up at [...]

MAY DAY! Celebrate it at Baltimore's Charm City Art Space with Denton, Texas' own Fishboy, The Up Set, Thee Lexington Arrows, and Markitect. Or perhaps you would like to go to DC for RJD2 and Happy Chichester at the 9:30 Club. Another option is Langhorne Slim performing at Iota. Finally you could head north to see Steve Goldberg and the Archenemies perform at The Fire in Philly with Sarah White and Sleeper Car. mp3: RJD2 - Beyond --> website --> buy mp3: Langhorne Slim - Restless [...]
