★★★☆☆ The fresh-faced, nubile electro of Steve Moore cannot help but dangle on the high wire overlooking the cheese pit. After all, in space travel, the preferred mode of travel for Burning Feeling , the moon is supposedly made of cheese, what with the Whitesnake guitars on "Love Reaction" and "Maybe Tonight" almost overdosing on hairspray. Using '80s fluorescent flourishes to tag along with the cosmic disco bandwagon ("The Fog"), Lovelock plays it relatively safe and isn't committed to putting much of a personal stamp on stock sounds. So if you find passages cringeworthy, they [...]

From the opening notes of the heavy synth bassline of the title track of 'Burning Feeling', the début album from Lovelock , you know something synthetically special is happening. Lovelock is one of the many monikers of Synth legend Steve Moore. I say 'legend' because the man has a prolific and consistently amazing out put. Whether it's as in Zombi or Miracle or as Gianna Rossi or just himself you know that with the Moore stamp on it, you're in for some amazing, emotional synth work. His latest release, Lovelock's 'Burning Feeling' is in part a collection [...]

If you chop a band in half, are they necessarily still of that same band? Steve Moore and Majeure (a.k.a. Anthony Paterra) are better known as members of Pittsburgh space rockers Zombi , and while much of this split EP sounds largely similar to the bulk of that band's regular output, they also take the opportunity to experiment a bit, showing slightly different sides to their songwriting. This EP yanks apart Zombi's two major creative forces and lets each member explore his own on little miniature planets of sound. Brainstorm is [...]

In 2008 Peter Saville emphatically pronounced the album cover dead. Shrinking to fit the screen of an iPod or smartphone, artwork is increasingly measured in pixels rather than inches, easily passed over in a digital age. For Steve Moore and Anthony Paterra, two halves of synth-prog duo Zombi, however, album art provides a telling entry point to the music that waits underneath. The elephant galloping through the purple and turquoise haze on the front of 2009's Spirit Animal, for example, conveyed the psychedelic leanings, the penchant for kitsch, and the sheer brute force of the music. Free from words, Zombi's [...]

Bear in Heaven is ramping up to their album release, which you can hear in its entirety, streaming on their website , albeit at a significantly slow speed. Steve Moore aka Lovelock, has crafted up this wonderfully 802s ballad version of the track "The Reflection of You," available free for download.

(This stream will be removed on Feb. 5th) Right here on the Needle Drop , we're premiering a full stream of the new Steve Moore / Majeure, Brainstorm . It's out via Temporary Residence . Though Moore and Majeure have made some considerable noise in the past with their respective solo efforts, these two artists are best known for their collaborative output in the progressive synth rock duo Zombi. With heavy influences coming from soundtrack masterminds like Vangelis and John Carpenter, Zombi's music has built a reputation for being brooding, tense, [...]
What a weekend. Just think, a week from today I'll either be living the high life - on cloud nine - sharing a mix tape in celebration of the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl, or I'll be the brunt of every joke made by my six Boston-native roommates if the Patriots win. I'm [...]

Last couple of weeks were a bit exhausting for me. I simply had not the time to truly digest the latest releases. Being said, this weekend i just want to chillout. I'd like to make a short trip with you, through the gates of the universe, to present some hidden gems that will make your mind fly away. This is no favourite list or ' best of ' compilation. All I want is to share with you some tracks that I like to define as " stress decompressors ". Perfect if you are into this kind of cosmic and space [...]

I wasn't originally planning on doing a show this evening, but decided to take my normal spot behind the microphone anyway. So the playlist didn't begin coming together until the evening of. There was no theme, it was all variety; folk to electronic to noise rock. If you missed it, here's the list: "The Crystal Cat" by Dan Deacon by Spiderman Of The Rings "A Dark God Heart" by Sleep Party People off We Were Drifting On A Sad Song [...]
Apparently this was a track written for a project that fell through a couple of years ago, but it's so chilling and wintery that synthesizer overlord Steve Moore though it best to release it this X-Mas. 'Carol Of The Bells' is a haunting, atmospheric peice that immediately makes you feel cold. It's an icy soundscape, but shot through with a strain of hopefulness, like being lost in the dark and seeing a light. I'm not sure if it's X-Massy or not (probably, in a creepy '80's BBC children's X-Mas drama way), but it's beautiful nonetheless. [...]

Moore/Majeure -Enhanced Humanoid
SynthWave legend and driving force behind the likes of Zombi & Miracle Steve Moore will be releasing a split album with AE Paterra A.K.A. Majeure (the rest of Zombi) next year titled 'Brainstorms'. As a taster, check out 'Enhanced Humanoid', a dark, smokey peice of Vangelis-esque future soundtrack. Driven by arpeggios that lend the track and Italo, almost EBM quality and a nervous energy that is enhanced by the beautiful, yet slightly tense, melodies. The whole record will definitely be something to look forward to for gritty Sci-Fi electronics and synthetic atmospheres. [...]

Having sond-mined our e-mail archive yesterday, let us now slip into the visualisator, a scanner developed by VizViz, a recently spun out gem from DARPA's venerable portfolio of black swan investments. Visualisator transforms the ebbs and flows of our sickly subconscious into lurid imaginary. We hear that Apple has now acquired VizViz, and the next version of the iPhone 5 will incorporate some of its technologies into its interface, thus enabling users to tele-chat in alternate realities generated on the fly from their biometrics. Talk to your honey in elysium, talk to your boss on a Sunday, in a cenobyte [...]
Professor Genius, known best as part of a small vanguard of artists in the middle '00s who made smart, Ital0 flavored dance music that splashed onto so many turntables in the mid aughties, has taken a turn towards the soundscape, the cinematic, and the epic with his release ofHassan. Though the album and song titles reference historical and mythical accounts of the Hashshashin and their founder Hassan-i Sabbah and some tracks draw heavily on Arabic and Persian influences, the double vinyl LP paints its own science fictional world, full of its own intrigues. As an album, Hassan has [...]
