Back in 2004 Raphael Saadiq opened his studio doors to Steve Spacek to produce an album for one of his sub labels. The album was supposed to be called Pookie Blue Room and features 10 songs produced by both Steve Spacek and Morgan Zarate with Raphael singing on all of them and featuring guest appearances by Common, Q-Tip, Ledisi, Steve Spacek and Sir Bentley. Anyhow the album was never completed and therefore never released. This is definitely some unreleased music that should pressed up at some point. [ via ] You can stream "They Don't Know [...]

The vault of unreleased Dilla productions seems to be never-ending. This Steve Spacek collaboration was originally recorded in 2007 - but had remained unearthed until last night, when KCRW's Mathieu Schreyer put it on his Soundcloud.

Photo by Mads Perch This year saw the collaboration of two luminaries in the electronic and dance music world. Mark Pritchard has a long history in a wealth of projects, from Global Communication and Troubleman to his recent Harmonic 313 guise for Warp Records. Steve Spacek formed the trio Spacek with Ed Spacek and Morgan Spacek (now Morgan Zarate on Hyperdub) before moving on to solo releases under his own name such as Spaceshift , which featured J Dilla on one song. After both relocated to Australia and found themselves living near each other, they [...]

by Andrew Sacher Africa Hitech , the moniker under which Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek record together, released their debut full length 93 Million Miles this past May on Warp. Considering both members have been making forward-thinking electronic music since the '90s, it makes sense that when they come together, they're able to create a genuine formula of old school UK garage and dubstep. Unlike some of [...]

Keep an eye on HURFDURFLOLWHAT on YouTube, seems to be posting slices of sublime and bangers. This is no exception: "Fresh from dropping their justly acclaimed 93 Million Miles LP, Mark... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

[ Warp Records ] ( buy vinyl ) ( buy CD ) ( buy mp3s ) 93 Million Miles has one of the most unique arcs of any album in recent memory, a progression of sound that might best be described as backwards time travel, something the title track alludes to. As an illustration, recall the opening sound collage of Contact , where the oldest transmissions from Earth could be heard furthest from their origin because those sounds had just arrived at that far point. Mark Pritchard and [...]

On their debut full-length, Africa Hitech fuses rhythms from around the world with the most synthetic electronics known to man. It's like listening to some kind of Kraftwerk-produced drum circle accompanied by a chiptunes DJ. I know that description is outlandish, but I honestly feel like some of the music here is a trip. There are so many colors and grooves laced into these tracks, I think any one-at least on some level-can admit this is a fun listen. Is this track for you? Find out in this review Review: [...]

By now I'm pretty sure that everyone has heard 'Out in the streets', the HUGE tune from Africa Hitech aka Steve Spacek & Mark Pritchard . Well this is the album that that tune came off, and the whole album is super TIGHT. It's released on the MEGA-LABEL Warp Records. Give it a chance, it's SO GOOD! Africa Hitech - 93 Million Miles ...

Africa Hitech is the brain child of Mark Pritchard ( Harmonic 313 / Global Communication ) and Steve Spacek . These two electronic veterans came together in 2010 to unleash some of the best EP's of the year thanks to Warp records. Their tunes vary from dark and deep electronica to four sheets to the wind acid beats. The recent announcement of a new album is getting the hairs on the back of our necks up and now we have some noise to make it all a little more real. Check the [...]

Production whizz Mark Pritchard is well known for his ability to turn his hand to a variety of different musical styles. A look through his discography proves as much - although chances are you might not know that it's Pritchard who's manning the boards on many of his records, thanks to the wide range of aliases he records under . Now, the man behind Harmonic 33, Harmonic 313, and Troubleman - to name just a few of his alter-egos... at this rate, Kool Keith's status of alias king might [...]

Africa HiTech are Mark Pritchard (of Harmonic 313/Global Communications/countless more psuedonyms fame) and Steve Spacek (of Spacek fame and notable Dilla collaborator). They began bonding over their shared passion for the seemingly disparate spheres of bubbling Detroit techno, soul and fierce Jamaican digital dancehall. It was when they both, by pure coincidence, found themselves living in Australia that the connection was cemented. Africa HiTech is the moniker which represents both Steve and Mark's love for all things progressive within music, whilst acknowledging that the roots of much of today's popular music can be traced directly back to [...]
As it turns out, that Ini Kamoze "they call it merther/murder" sample is our favorite sound. Credit to Damian Marley for priming the post-millennial pump, a nod to Venus Iceberg X for chopping it up at the F72 release party, a wink to The Game for getting everyone breathing in 2006 to rap on "One [...]
