I don't usually post this kinda stuff but sometimes you need something that makes you want to skank... Here's Africa Hitech who are more commonly known as Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek... we're not even gonna try to pigeon hole what they make... You'll recognise the sample but you wont expect what happens next! Their album '93 Million Suns', is out May 9th/10th on WARP... Catch them in Fabric on the 13th May. Pre-Order now on BLEEP Africa Hitech - Out In [...]

Sigh...right...so I was sitting...making the comp...and I kept thinking...man...what would I want the.er...ideal...woman to sound like if I had to describe her musically....and this happened. I feel incredibly fluffy making this and I'll more than likely overcompensate this feeling by making an outlandishly ignorant comp for March. Playlist and shit under the covers. Stop laughing at me. *PBBT!'s SMORGASBORD FEBRUARY 2011 [ DOWNLOAD ]

The Red Bull Academy kindly threw this 2010 highlight from Africa Hitech out for free all the way back in 2009. With Steve Spacek on vocals, it's a typically sunny, soul-drenched affair. Jittery afro-electronics and tinny percussion sit atop a flow of deep dub bass, courtesy of producer Mark Pritchard. In fact made by Spaceck and Pritchard during the 2007 Red Bull Academy, this roots-influenced jam is guaranteed to lift you out of those January blues (be sure to pick the whole 12 track EP ). Africa Hitech [...]
We're excited to announce the lineup for our 31st Boiler Room session: Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek present Africa Hitech (Warp Records), w/ Sal P (Liquid Liquid), RocketNumberNine - live, and Dj Rags (Livin' Proof).

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] If you don't want a song stuck in your head than don't check out this song that J. Dilla produced for Steve Spacek , i've been humming it since the middle of last week everywhere I go, in alleys and by the river or in my bedroom, "let the dollar circulateeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" HIGHLY RECOMMENDED I ran into one of the friendly guys from Small Black a few weeks ago in Greenpoint, he was walking home after just finishing recording their new album, I promise to [...]

Harmonic 313 - "Falling Away (with Steve Spacek)" Share and Enjoy:

So this month a few remixes have come to my attention, and they're pretty seminal to modern electronic music, particularly this global rhythm - a blend of techno/garage/2-step/house/dub step with a bit of something for everyone. I truly believe this kind of music could be slipped into almost any set and go down a storm. Take note. Okay, so a good place to start things off is yet another mix by SBTRKT . This one's too big to miss though. It's been around for a while, but it's absolutely incredible, and a great set-opener (heard it [...]

My homie DJ EkoGirl made a nice mix of soulful goodness that y'all need to DL. In her own words... Soulife is the nuSoul sound i'm most well-known for at a residency called Kiss. ?some well-known heavy hitters in there with new tracks: alicia, sade ?some really fly remixes: stardust, erykah+bisope, bugz ?some super amazing new music from: electric wire hustle, fat freddy's drop ?and then a lot of unfamiliar staples that have been in my soul crates for a few years to round it out. [...]

Heres a little taste of whats to come from Space Invadas in 2010. Their debut album Soul-Fi will be out in March.....but just so you dont have to wait till then Space Invadas have cooked up a fresh mix tape to keep you going over summer. All unreleased exclusive material form the duo, the mix includes snippets and remixes of album tracks / bonus tracks that wont be on the album / new tunes from Katalyst and Steve Spacek's other projects and lots more good stuff. Mix tape heat! Free music! Wooooo! Okay, so I'm more than aware that with so many new artists releasing their product for free, casual internet thugs are getting a little pickier about what they download and what they ignore, banishing many an artist into interweb obscurity in one foul swoop of a mouse. But while you might not have heard of Buff1 (don't feel bad, I hadn't either until a few months ago), his latest project It's A 1derful Life is worth a click and drag. The magnificent Michigan microphone master (check my a-a-a-alliteration [...]

Albums that eventually end up as true classics in my book seldom grab me on the first listen. More often than not, it usually takes a few spins for them to work their way under my skin. A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory is a perfect example. It's one of my all time favourite albums now, but I wasn't a major fan when I first laid ears on it as a young, yet grumpy and bearded 13 year old. Sure, it was good, but it didn't stand a chance against the cassingle of Naughty [...]

Art by the homie Eric9 Not much to say that hasn't already been said about this . All fans of Mr. Yancey and his music should quite enjoy this. Anyone who isn't familiar or appreciative of Dilla's work, should definitely download this and get some knowledge. Rootzilla is a beast at mixing and blending, and he did Dilla's work justice with this one. A sequel is on the way and the tracklist is after the jump. 1. Jay Dilla ft. Lil [...]

It's not my policy to run reviews here that have appeared elsewhere, but due to space constraints my LA Times review of Young Jeezy's "The Recession" got severely truncated. These are just the vagaries of the business but unfortunately, the published version tilts more polemic than actual review. Yes, the original draft is venomous, slightly strident and still probably 200 words too short. But it's sincere and maybe a necessary counterweight to the patently absurd, forced intellectualization that critics project onto Jeezy. [...]
Jeezy may not have made the all-star S.W.U. cut, but he still swaggers with the best of them. Here Michael Phelps' favourite rapper takes a well-circulated Billy Paul track and spins some gold.
James Yancey would have been 34 years of age Thursday just gone. That is no age. But as someone once said "when your chips are up... your chips are up" and James left this crazy casino of a world two years ago tomorrow (Sunday). Jay Dee was an incredible talent and a [...]
I Ain't No Holla Back Theoretical Physicist by D'Aziz "Dolla" - Steve Spacek (produced by J Dilla) Dollar$ are important. Bison Dele , formerly Brian Williams of the 1996 World Champion Chicago Bulls, had a fair amount of dollars from his career as a literal baller. In a lust for dollars, Bison's brother Miles Dabord allegedly murdered Bison, Bison's wife, and their skipper while sailing in the South Pacific. Dabord then tried to use Bison's bank account to buy 150 [...]
Let's start this podacst off with a bang. While I may still be digesting Donuts (pun intended), I'm definately feelin J Dilla's The Shining immediately upon arrival. I've always been a fan of Dilla's production, since I first time I heard Fantastic Vol. 2 and this album doesn't dissapoint. It actually seems to showcase how [...]
