After a successful three night run at Madison Square Garden last February, former Blind Faith bandmates Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood are teaming up for 14 show tour starting on June 10 at the venue formerly known as the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton - Forever Man I caught this show at the Garden and it was one of my favorites. Both musicians are still killin' it at this stage of their careers and clearly enjoyed rocking [...]
![Your First "Higher Love": What Songs Did You Learn Because Of A Big Old Crush? [Love Und Romance]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1514676_lg.jpg)
eMusic has a charming piece wherein a number of musicians of varying notoriety reveal their different first crushes. We find out that Laura Ballance of Superchunk had things for James West of The Wild, Wild West , Robin, The Black Stallion, and Han Solo (as well she should have); Julian Koster of Music Tapes and Neutral Milk Hotel crushed out on a model of the city of Manhattan. And then there's Sam Bisbee, who taught himself Kiss' "Beth" in honor of a girl... named Beth: My [...]
![A Playlist Full Of Optimism (And A Little Bit Of Weirdness) [Playlisting]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1469849_lg.jpg)
Songs used on MSNBC during the cable net's run-up to this morning's Presidential inauguration: John Mayer, "Waiting On The World To Change"; Steve Winwood, "Back In The High Life"; the Who, "My Generation." (That last selection was, in fact, played through to its lyric about dying before one gets old, which seemed, um, kind of odd.) Meanwhile, its broadcast parent is using the ever-uplifting Arcade Fire to score crowd shots of the teeming masses in D.C. Feel free to post any other notable uses of music in this morning's barrage of news packages (or, heck, what you're listening [...]

Traffic - Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory (1973)

Some of Minnesota's finest dancers compete for the hottest title in erotic entertainment history (according to Patrick).

Goethe once said, "A useless life is an early death" - I couldn't disagree more, it's how you live it that's most important. My best friend died in a motorcycle accident when we were both twenty-one; he touched endless people and fit more into life than anyone I've met since. Most of our friends have retired to couch surfdom, they've about as much life in 'em as a Norwegian Blue parrot pining for the fjords, yet destiny plucked a kid with wisdom of The Buddha off this mortal coil just as he was spreading his wings. I didn't think it [...]

It's been quite the year for former Spencer Davis Group/Traffic/Blind Faith member Steve Winwood - reuniting with Eric Clapton for a string of shows, turning 60, releasing a new solo album and a summer tour with Tom Petty. The B3 playing, guitar slinger is now looking to continue that run into 2009 with a brief January east coast-centric tour . Winwood's eight date run will open with two nights at NYC's United Palace and includes stops in Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and upstate New York. [...]

The suits at MTV weren't happy to see YouTube come into the picture a few years back to become THE place to watch old music videos. MTV made videos what they are before relegating them to MTV2 in lieu of such brilliant programing as The Real World - Weehawken and True Life: My Son Fucks Goats. This week, MTV finally got in the game by launching MTV Music . The MTV Music portal features over 16,000 videos, Unplugged performances and exclusive MTV concert footage with the promise of much [...]

"Bad Sneakers" is a song from the classic album "Katy Lied" by Steely Dan . And it's also in these music regions we find the band Bad Sneakers from Lund. A classical 70s light-soul-funk is mixed with a nice and clean Steve Winwood soul from the 80s, on ther first EP. There are nog big surprises here, and it's probably not the intention either. Instead they deliver a nice and easy feeling, that makes the atmosphere in the room seem a little lighter, as I'm sitting here watching the autumn rain sweeping in over [...]

Every now and then, I'll find the odd playlist laying around, scribbled on a cocktail napkin or a scrap of paper or a football. Some I've recorded while others were just "fantasies" (like the one where I mixed Enrico Caruso's Faust with Dwight Yoakam's Fast Cars ). I found this one as I was poking through my records , scribbled on the back of the Korgis Dumb Waiters album. I was able to lay my hands on most of the tunes. [...]
I'm going to go ahead and declare a tie from our edition two weeks ago with The Bridge and Mr. Blotto refusing to quit as the votes go higher and higher - so we'll call them both winners from when we looked at covers of Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys . Last week's however has a clear winner, no big surprise here as Jerry Garcia & David Grisman received the majority of votes when we examined covers of Sitting In Limbo . This [...]

I'm short on words this week since I've been spending much of it updating & changing back-end things on the site. Thankfully, I had Steve Winwood's seminal 1979 album Arc of a Diver on hand to keep me focused, and in particular this song - "Night Train" - which, if memory serves me, actually appeared on a 1978 release of his and resurfaced on this 1979 album. Of course, the album was a huge hit, as was the single "While You See A Chance", another song of his that I can never get enough of. [...]
![The Mark of the Beast[on]...or Our 666th Post!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1224286_lg.jpg)
By no means to we intend to scare anyone away from this site by implying we are devil worshippers. So NOT the case. But we do love a little evil fun from now and again. And seeing as how this is our 666th post, what better way to celebrate such a milestone than with 6 "random as all hell" lists, each with 6 "coming out of left field" components, topped off with 6 "semi-pertinent" songs as reward for you making it through this hellacious post. (Initially, we had an idea for a massive 666 item list, but our super [...]
by james siciliano Per the suggestion of "Mike" (a dude I met yesterday with a CamelBak hooked up to a box-o-wine), I stopped by "Hippie Hill" on my way to the festival. And as he promised, the ganja was as plentiful as the drum circles and unwashed body parts. After haggling with a Jamaican woman named "Momma", I procured said goods, and bounded down to Day 2 of this epic festival. MARY JANE'S LAST DANCE BY TOM PETTY: [...]
With the Outside Lands Festival coming up this weekend, we thought it'd be awful helpful to pull together playlists for each day of the festival so you can sample to a bit of each artist before you go. I've tried to find representative and/or live songs for each artist to give a good idea of what you're in store for. With our fancy new media player, you can even hit the little play button next to any song and listen to it as a mix even without downloading anything. Saturday: Tom Petty [...]

With the scores of contemporary acts playing Outside Lands it would certainly be easy to overlook the fact that there is a performer on the bill that actually played in San Fransisco during the city's gilded psychedelic-ballroom era and who only just turned 60 this year - Steve Winwood - guess that's what happens [...] With the scores of contemporary acts playing Outside Lands it would certainly be easy to overlook the fact that there is a performer on the bill that actually played in San Fransisco during the city's gilded psychedelic-ballroom era and who only just turned [...]

(Selected by Christian "DJ AM Gold" Schaeffer) We've been plying you with a week's worth of Tom Petty videos in advance of his show tonight (but where's "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie Nicks?) [ Ed. note: We posted that in June when Stevie came to town ; someone didn't do their blog homework.] Petty's a legend all right, but he shares the stage with another rock & roll lifer, Steve Winwood. So, to further put you in the mood for the show, we've collected a few of Winwood's best [...]
