This album is one I hold close to my heart. Hurricanes was written during the course of the nights when Hurricane Irene hit the shores of the east coast (namely New Jersey and New York); I can just imagine sitting by my window, as Ryan and Ray were, watching the torrential downpour flood the streets and tear up trees in its wake. The sound really fits that mood as well, making you feel alone and afraid of what damage may occur, yet slightly comforted. Still Blue Still Turning have a technique that I've noticed since their first [...]

The second video from Still Blue Still Turning, this time featuring the track "Unstacked", which was one of my personal favorites off of American Artist . Reconnecting with photographer Joshua Priestley, Still Blue Still Turning create cinematic gold in a way few ambient bands can rival. The duel image style of this video is really impressive, as it allows for two scenes to be playing out with the music, sometimes creating two totally different feels on the same song (for me, one was comfort and one was despair). Truly, honestly, a sight to behold. B. Filed under: [...]

If anyone deserves to be a soundtrack to a film, it's these guys right here. Still Blue Still Turning, Brooklyn's finest ambient band, has been working with photographer Joshua Priestley on a short film for one of the songs from American Artist, "Twombly". One half of the duo, Raymond, says of it, "It's a slowed single shot from the beach with enormous wave action and incredible characters. " They'll be debuting the video for free for a single day, December 1, after which it'll be available at filmbinder.com for rental or purchase and available as part [...]

Minmal. Because the second "i" would just be too much. Life has a funny way of working itself out. After much mutual Twitter respect between Still Blue Still Turning and I (our political views and musical tastes are strikingly similar), I actually got to hang out with these guys at the Signal Hill/CALLS/Twincities show. Having listened to both of their albums thoroughly prior to meeting them, I can tell where they were coming from: we were all twenty-somethings from sub/urban New York living in a time of social unrest and economic turmoil. All that aside, we [...]

Still Blue Still Turning From: New York, United States Still Blue Still Turning is a New York City-based duo located at the point where shoegaze, dreampop, and slow-fi collide; the point where noise and beauty collide, the point where Brian Eno, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and Sigur Ros collide. Prepare to be astounded. Go Try MP3 - Still Blue Still Turning - [...]
Still Blue Still Turning There’s a mysteriously foreboding beauty to this self-defined “slow-fi”, or a beautifully foreboding mystery, and I dunno if it’s all those news snippets of Hitler and Kennedy being dead, but I feel this is drenched in a certain thirst for immensity and fey magnitude that to my mind brings associations of political unrest and fatalism, painted in smeared expressionist colors. To conclude, this band is quite fascinating and multi-faceted in its way and there’s a hearty meal to be had here. Still [...]
