Stockholm Syndrome capped a quick and dirty August national tour at Tipitina's with a deafening and thunderous 2-hour set heavy on freight train rock and roll (like the setcapper "Road to Damascus"). There were a few lighter moments like the jazzy "Purple Hearts", a Schools-led "Who Dat" chant and the classic funk nod on "Couldn't Get It Right," but the lasting impact (and ringing in the ears) of the show was quite simply how hard these guys rocked and Eric McFadden's amazing stylistic range on the guitar.

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… For the second year in a row, England's long running Truck Festival will return to the United States, settling once again at The Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY. Set to take place from September 9-11, the fest will be headlined by the impressive one-two punch of The Hold Steady and Okkervil River, who will joined by Ra Ra Riot and Wye Oak with another 30+ bands and comedians [...]

An accomplished mixed set of tunes, marked by some inexplicable dumbness. Stockholm Syndrome is one of those chameleon bands that seem to change up their approach with every song. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it can leave the listener puzzled. The band, which was founded by vocalist Jerry Joseph and Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools, released debut Holy Happy Hour in 2004 and follow up now with Apollo, a record that seems to epitomize the term "grab-bag." Opening track "Apollo" grinds and squawks...

Fans of guitar rock, subsequent jams, talk of town & country, Black Crowes, Hendrix, and what occurs between, should find themselves at home with the new Stockholm Syndrome album Apollo . The band includes Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools and singer/songwriter Jerry Joseph and this is their first release since 2004. Now that's it's been just about a month since Jam Cruise 9 returned to land, I've had plenty of time to reflect on all the music I witnessed. While I was familiar with most of the bands aboard the MSC Poesia, there were a number of acts who were new to me. For this week's B List, I made a list of the 10 bands I hadn't seen live before the trip who impressed me the most. Yes, it's ridiculous that I hadn't seen a few of these bands, but [...]

Well, we flip the calendar year over to 2011 and it of course takes me a little while to make the adjustment. Every week [errr, almost every week] when I go to write this piece, the first thing I do is do an Advanced Search on the Live Music Archive for the range of dates from last week. At first I put in 2010 and got a little confused . Right, 2011. OK, back on track. A lot of the selections this week all come from either Jam Cruise or moe's destination concerts down in the Dominican Republic. A [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News One of the many aspects unique to Jam Cruise -- apart from the awesome fact that it's a traveling music festival which takes place on a cruise ship in the Caribbean -- is the sheer number of impromptu collaborations, guest appearances and all-star jams that seem to happen spontaneously throughout the journey. When the Brooklyn-based Some Cat From Japan announced their appearance on this year's cruise, it was [...]

Day Three of Jam Cruise 9 continued the trend of sit-ins at nearly every set during a full night of music that followed our stop in Roatan, Honduras. Those cruisers who wanted to sleep took full advantage during the stop at port, while plenty of adventurous types partook in all sorts of excursions on the tiny island. Once 5:30PM hit, everyone returned to the boat and Easy Star All-Stars kicked off the action on the Pool Deck. The band mixed Beatles songs with Pink Floyd songs with a few of their originals mixed in for good [...]

Editor-in-chief Scott Bernstein will recap some of his experiences on Jam Cruise 9 in journal form for Hidden Track this week as the MSC Poesia sails around the Caribbean packed to the gills with bands from around the scene and the fans who love them. There's a feeling of joy that overtakes you as you step off the gangplank and onto Jam Cruise that is unlike any feeling I've felt before - except of course last year when I stepped onto the same boat for my first Jam Cruise. Everyone boarding the MSC Poesia [...]
Stockholm Syndrome @ Brooklyn Bowl - September 12 Faced with reviewing a show like the barnburner Stockholm Syndrome put on at Brooklyn Bowl, you're tempted to focus on the visceral impact. But for the uninitiated, know first it's a quintessentially Jerry Joseph band, and that means punch. The soulful, merciless Joseph was the combination bar band howler, insightful folk-poet and razor-witted iconoclast long before the Hold Steady's Craig Finn and other more fashionable frontmen, and he clearly loves this lineup. But it's not only Jerry Joseph and friends, [...]

Gov't Mule fans were a bit confused when a fresh batch of Stockholm Syndrome tour dates was announced that included a few shows which conflicted with Mule's trip out west in September as Danny Louis handles keyboards for both bands. Turns out Louis will skip the SS gigs on September 3rd, 4th and 5th to honor his commitment to the Mule. For those who aren't familiar with Stockholm Syndrome, the band features Dave Schools on bass, singer/songwriter Jerry Joseph, Eric McFadden on guitar, drummer Wally Ingram and Louis. The group's [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News On Monday, Cloud 9 Adventures unveiled the itinerary -- including dates, lineup and port stops -- for the ninth incarnation of its flagship event, Jam Cruise . Billed as a "musical adventure at sea," Jam Cruise has become something of a grand prize for jam bands and their fans over the years and the annual cruise easily ranks among the world's best destination festivals. Jam Cruise 9 will depart from Fort Lauderdale on January 4, 2011 for a five-day journey [...]
We haven't heard from Stockholm Syndrome in while but now they are back in full force. They tell me that we should expect big things from them in the future and they start right here with a remix of Bless Beats single 'Let It Go'. Bless Beats is best known for creating Wiley¹s 2008 smash "Wearing My Rolex". 'Let It Go' features Wiley, London based singer Remi Nicole and De La Soul legend Plug One. Scheduled for a May release. Bless Beats - Let It Go (Stockholm Syndrome Club mix)

I was barely three months old when the Million Dollar Quartet got together for a Tuesday afternoon jam at Sun studios. Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis formed modern music's first supergroup and Sam Phillips was quick to cash in. Phillips made his living with music and knew something special when he saw it. That would explain his calling the paper and letting them send over a reporter and photographer to capture the moment for posterity. Someone send a reporter and photographer over to see Stockholm Syndrome, pronto. [...]
Artist & Title: Lettuce - Sam Huff's Flying Raging Machine Date & Venue: 2010-03-04 Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn NY Taper & Show Download: Frank D'Auria In case you missed it, Carla Danca and Jeremy Gordon made a good case for why our New York City readers should make it out to one of the Soulive shows at Brooklyn Bowl this week. Funny thing about a Soulive gig, you're always just a few musician switches away from a Lettuce reunion breaking out. If you're one of [...]
Love 'em or hate 'em, the folks at Pitchfork sure know how to put together a music festival that is big on heavy hitters and low on price. The influential music site has revealed the initial lineup for for the fifth annual Pitchfork Music Festival which as we previously reported will be headlined by Pavement. They will be joined by Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, St. Vincent, Raekwon, Lightning Bolt, Cass McCombs, Here We Go Magic & Sleigh Bells with more acts to be announced soon. The [...]

On February 16, Stockholm Syndrome will release a 7-song EP recorded live at Streetlight Records in Santa Cruz last September, including four previously unreleased tracks. There hasn't been aan album since theri 2004 debut Holly Happy Hour , mainly because it's basically a side-project of the band members.
