Chester Bennington the frontman of Linkin Park has been confirmed as the new frontman of Stone Temple Pilots . The band which were previously fronted by Scot Weiland first announced the news at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles this weekend. It's genuinely not easy to keep track of the Stone Temple Pilots family tree: The band's instrumental core (brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz) have now parted ways with vocalist Scott Weiland three times. In 1997, they went on hiatus, which led to Weiland releasing a solo album, while the DeLeos and Kretz formed Talk Show, with vocalist Dave Coutts. STP re-formed in 1998, only to split again in 2002, after which Weiland joined up with a handful of Guns N' Roses castoffs to form Velvet Revolver, while the DeLeos teamed up with Filter vocalist Richard Patrick [...]

There's a new STP song with Bennington on vocals, and they performed together over the weekend.

Following the departure of former singer Scott Weiland in February, Stone Temple Pilots  have revealed that his replacement will be none other than Linkin Park 's Chester Bennington. The unveiling was made over the weekend at a surprise KROQ show in Los Angeles, with Bennington taking on lead vocals for new track 'Out of Time'. Shortly afterwards, the band posted the song as a free download online, as well as updating their website with new promo photos taken with the nu-metal frontman.
